SPECTOR® Club - Part 21

As a tribute to how much I love my NS20004, this is the longest I have consecutively gigged the same bass. (previously was my Carvin)
This thing just has the perfect 'flat' tone IMO, and I need only make slight adjustments to get any different sounds I need. Of course it's
not exactly stock, the Haz-copy preamp and passive SGD pickups help :D

Yep 1/4 on is flat or 0 . Full CC is -4 or -6 I believe. I honestly could care less personally lol. I put em where they sound best and deposition the knobs to point at a prefrence point on the bass. Lol

Nice! Yep that's all I do as well. :). Carvin really makes great, consistant basses but they don't get much love.

I think you mentioned that a thread or two ago.

I should do that. LOL! The older TonePump without the trim pot is a powerful pre - so when going direct I have it almost at '0'. If I bump up the bass a bit, the sound guy gives me the hairy eyeball. lol

Yeah I think that guy is wrong about that. I don't know for sure what flat is, but my method was to find it by ear. I took my bass and played it over studio monitors and guessed what I think flat should be, then compared it to flat on other basses. Then I did the grendle trick (i think it was grendle), I took the bass and treble knobs off the instrument and repositioned the knobs so the dots are straight up. I also positioned the volume knobs so that "straight up" is full volume. So when I start to play my bass, I make sure all my knobs are "straight up" then adjust from that if I need to.

Not having a center click seemed really goofy at first and I hated it but Im used to it now and its not a problem.

Luckily I got the center click on my Ian Hill and 2 of my ns2a's....so I just go from there...;)

Yeah, I definitely know the shape is different and it won't be as belly friendly as the BS :) I have always liked the shape on this bass.

Hmmmm, looking at the Spector site, the width at the nut for the Rex 5 1.79" and the width at the nut for the Euro 5LX is 1.84" so I guess the Rex has a slimmer neck. I do like the thickness of my Euro 5LX and Rebop 5 necks and when Limaguy had both of his NS-2A's i tried them and thought the neck was way too thin for me. Granted, they were 4 strings though so a 5 string will definitely be bigger.

I keep watching this video though and have to say I like how it sounds and this girl rocks:

There is a change in overall frequency of the bass tone and I am still getting use to mixing it.

Is it worth the extra money?...my opinion NO....Slightly better sound but worth $350 plus $75 to install and re-rout...no. But thats me always the experimental guy....would I do it again I don't know. But I'm kind of stupid some times with my money, hehe.....:bassist:

Yes, I thought it still has plenty beefy,full sound, but it was really clean and not dirty/gritty like the normal SPECTOR sound. Does that make any sense?:eyebrow: :hmm:

I know personnally that Ian Hill sounded awesome! :D The best sounding and playing bass I've owned to date! :bassist:

I have to setup my rig, but I have to say that the NS4 is a very versatile instrument, very comfortable to play, and the sound is really punchy and growly.

The only issue is that's pretty heavy compared to other basses I have, but I can afford this.
