I bet I'm the biggest sting fan out of all you nerds, but how long did he actually play that spector? 6 weeks?

He actually toured close to a year with it.
Then he used it on some of the "Dream of the Blue Turtles" tracks.
It then was sent back to Kramer in 1989 for a complete referb. George Felise personally oversaw the paint/finish fixes, Stuart replaced the worn pups and it got new tuning pegs.
Then it went back to Sting and stayed in his personal collection until 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At that time, Sting presented the guitar to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to go into the Police Exhibit.
It has remained there for the past 9 years.
I have an open invitation to photograph and inspect the bass any time I'm at the RRHOF. Which one day I plan on taking them up on that offer. :D

I'm certain u can ask stuart or pj , but I remember reading there were two sb1 gene basses made . One with his face on the headstock , one without . The auction says the original was added later ... Also they say theirs is a inlay sticker . You offered up some knowledge I wast aware of , that Fernandez would custom build a replica ...

They've made copies of the Gene Simmons bass and a couple of copies of Nikki Sixx's Spectorbirds. Never mass produced but more like custom one-offs. Which is the only reason they've never gotten a cease and desist letter. They never use the Spector logos and they've only done 3 or 4 to my knowledge.

I have a question for the other guys that play Euro 5LX's today.

I've had back problems since an accident I was in two years ago and don't think that my bass is too heavy, but I weighed it today and my bathroom scale said it was 10.4 lbs. I'm kinda curious to see what the weight of everyone else's basses are, I'm looking for another Euro and would like a lighter bass if possible, but I'm not counting on it as I think 10.4lbs is going to be pretty average.

Edit: I just looked on bass central and it looks like they have some US spectors weighing in at like 9.5lbs! Would the extra pound off of the bass be a noticeable difference or am I just being crazy?

Come on, JPS, I know you know the answer to this question . . .

Quote:
Tube Quilt comes from a special Maple only found in the Pacific Northwest.
It's much more defined and the figuring looks like tubes or waves.

The bass on the left in Ultra Amber is AAAA Tube Quilt.
So was the ultra amber 5 string with the maple fretboard at NAMM in tube quilt or regular? Where did that bass end up?

maybe you need a bribe, like more spector pictures . . .

yup.... I traded basses with Bassie

Just some quick iphone pics.....

I played it for 10-15 minutes...... WOW I'm loving it!

I can't believe bassie got rid of it. Well, I'm glad it's still in the family. I'm quite fond of the solid color NS spectors, something I wish they would do more often. If I recall, thats the VW vintage white refinish. It looks great, I bet it plays great!

If you due multiple sets like me, you would notice less fatigue. Of course a wide strap and proper posture go a long way.

So forgive the dumb question, these are P and J pickups in a humbucker casing so you could have basically P and J sounds (Pickups) for a 5 or 6 string?

Very Interesting....

I have a 40p5. I tried in in the place of one of my DCs. One nice thing is that if your spector has quick connects on the pickups, you can switch between the various flavors without much trouble. A couple of minutes and a screwdriver.

I'm glad you're liking it so far. I am looking forward to getting that NS 2 JA R. I came up in the eighties. If I were to do a "My Spector Story" the bass that the reissue is patterned after was our holy grail. A 16 year old kid playing punk just could not afford it. We were somehow aware that this bass was the baddest thing out there. This is before the internet. Its gonna be great to have this. Now I have always said that the Tonepump/with trim, is just as good as the HAZ. However, I think I have to order a HAZ to get it as close to the original as possible. Why didnt Spector issue this bass with the HAZ? Then I will probaby get Chris Bavaria to paint it a solid old school color. Effectively destroying the resale value, oh well:smug:
