Interesting. Are these pickups listed on the EMG site? I couldn't find an exact match for the models you mentioned.

Sorry for the typo...they're active EMG-40P EMG-40J and they wasn't any up charge since they are soap bars and the Forte 5 comes standard with soap bars. The OBP-3 was an up charge though.

Yeah, their emg 40p and 40j pups. The 4 string versions are 35p/j. Had em out for years

They also offer the 45P and 45J for the 6 strings.

Ok so on the P/J discussion for the 5-string, one could basically put a 40P in the neck position and a 40J in the bridge position and get close to what a typical Spector 4-string P/J sounds like? Is the neck humbucker on a Euro 5 in the same place as the split P on a Euro 4?



Does the quick connect refer to the three pins on he bottom of the pickup pictured on the EMG site? If so, how does that work if you were to connect these to a Euro with TW's? Would pulling out the knobs do anything at that point since the pickups aren't single/dual?

Right now both my Euro 5 and Euro 6 have TW's so I am very interested in switching the pickups on one of them for some more variety. If I can do this without soldering which I have not done before that would be awesome.

And yes they pop right in.

Cool thanks. Sounds like going from TW to PJ is a little trickier. I'm looking at the EMG wiring schematics now for each pickup to see if I can make heads or tails of it.

We covered this about a week or so ago:

The TW quick connects are not the same or compatable with the other EMG soapbars due to the coil switching wiring needed.

The CS's, DC's and soapbar P's and J's all use the same quick connect cable. The TW's do not.
To switch out your TW's you will need new quick connects and new non-push/pull 25k ohm volume pots.

I have to admit that between the Kramers and Brooklyns I have played and the newer models... The Black Pearl, my NS-4 and the numerous modern NS-2's I've shot photos of... the newer basses without question are superior.

For me it's the nostalgia and the fact that the older models do feel different (even if the tonal differences are minimal).

But without a doubt the modern models are superior. As I've heard PJ Rubal say, "This is the golden age of Spector".

I guess everyone has their opinions....bought a $5k white ns2 last year and the 84 Brooklyn in my opinion is worth 3 of those new ones....everyone has their opinions...I guess everyone has to buy em and compare them....actually Lennys (Grendle) green Wimbish bass went toe to toe against the 2011 NS2 and their was a slight difference....probably like a $400 difference.

I'm drooling over the woodgrains and finishes on some of the newer models, but I'm still crazy about my original '86 early Brooklyn era NS-2. I'd like to join the club!

I have a question for the other guys that play Euro 5LX's today.

I've had back problems since an accident I was in two years ago and don't think that my bass is too heavy, but I weighed it today and my bathroom scale said it was 10.4 lbs. I'm kinda curious to see what the weight of everyone else's basses are, I'm looking for another Euro and would like a lighter bass if possible, but I'm not counting on it as I think 10.4lbs is going to be pretty average.

Edit: I just looked on bass central and it looks like they have some US spectors weighing in at like 9.5lbs! Would the extra pound off of the bass be a noticeable difference or am I just being crazy?

So forgive the dumb question, these are P and J pickups in a humbucker casing so you could have basically P and J sounds (Pickups) for a 5 or 6 string?

It's worth what someone is willing to pay. But yes.
Some of the modern Woodstock models which sell for $6K-$8K brand new have brought $5K used.

It just depends. And I'd be willing to pay a nice sum for an authentic, all original 1983 Brooklyn with the Leo Quan, neck inlays and white (aka Sting Bass).
