SPECTOR® Club - Part 26

I've been playing with this idea for a while and tonight, as the atmosphere and the ambiance were right, I recorded it.

Everything was recorded with the Spector Forte. On this track, I use ALL of my pedals so the list is: (in no particular order or reason)
Volume Pedal---XXL distortion---Tremolo---Bass Octave---M80-Bass DI---Flanger---Envelope Filter---Carbon Copy Delay---Boss Ge7 EQ.

....If I only had a Whammy pedal:cool:

This is 6 layers (4 of which are split channels to Left and Right)
Minimal Compression, no EQ....I'm too tired:o
It's 3:50am and I've been at it for almost 5 hours now. :p
I named the track after my Wife :bassist:

It sounds OK on my headphones, I hope it sounds OK to everyone else.

So...some may know that I bought Patricks Euro 4...and haven't heard any sound clips or seen any photos. Reason being, there were a couple of frets that needed re-adjusting so Patrick contacted PJ, had me send it to New York and he made sure that Jimmy would have a look and fix it for me.

I just got the bass back today and it's in perfect form. Jimmy even took the time to write me a note explaining what he did and why.
Simply awesome. I am excited to plug it in and make some music with it. Most likely record something tonight.

I would like to thank Patrick publicly here for doing above and beyond to make sure I got taken care of. You're an outstanding man. Thank you. :bassist:

Question for you, now if you slept for 6-8 hours is that when you start to look like Fred Sanford :hiding: ;)

(For any of the newer members, seventh, had a Fred Sanford avatar photo for a long time and we never saw what he really looked like) :D

Seriously, this is why Rex Brown and Dirty Ray have TPs put in their USA Spectors. Very similar tone to the Haz but more output. With the Trimpot wide-open, the TP is a LOT louder than the Haz. And to guys like Rex and Ray, that counts for a lot.

Thanks again to Sam for an awesome job doing this... and for taking the time to care. You're a prince among men. I mean that!

Keep in mind this wasnt any over produced recording or effect tricks.
Just the bass pluged into Pro Tools no EQ and and just a bit of the same compression on each bass on mixdown.

I even recorded some clips with just the P Pickup and just the J Pickup and honestly I dont even think I could pick out the difference if I didnt know which were playing.
I will post those later, it would have been overkill with all the clips at once.

I am really glad this proved that this is a quality Preamp.

Over the past year, I have seen the Tonepump get a lot of crap from people on Talkbass. It really stems form the Non-Trim version, which I will admit is a bit difficult to work with. Just cliped everything in its path.

But the trim version is kickin some butt. :bassist:

great clips! agreed the tone pump gets way more flack than it deserves. I think its a combo of the non trim pump being so hot, and the fact that the tone pump isn't the flag ship preamp on the US models. People are always gonna hate on things that aren't considered "top of the line". But as is with most things Spector, it's all top of the line, just different flavors.

The HAZ is great, don't get me wrong, but I think the pump is more flexible, I can dial in the level perfect for my rig ( or get nasty like the haz), as well as dial in most of what the haz has with it. Imo it gets even better @ 18v too! ( great call Phat) :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Get the trim pot version, and yes it can pump up the output. I ran that setup in my ns2000 before the switch to emg's ( had a haz copy in there too, went back to the pump). better tone from the pump as well. The emg pre just doesn't get the tone imo. Sounds good but just not "right"

Ya I never under stood why the TP got such a bad wrap... I love it... I guess I could see why people didn't like the old ones, but I love it in my CRFM and the one I had in my performer with EMG-HZs (non trim pot)

That one I sold you sounded good, it wasn't too hot either. I was a bit too hasty pulling it out of my rebop. Kinda went with the hype I think. I ended up trying a P/J combo with a haz clone in the rebop , and then DC's and a trimpot pump. It has DC's and the clone in it now and it's a beast! the DC's work well in there giving it a little more low mids, with the clone it works really well in the rebop. My NS2000 has the 35 p/j set and the trim pot pump in it now. Sounds great too.

I'm torn, lol the rebop is now my son's bass, and the NS2000 is my backup. I like the neck on the 2000 better but the rebop sounds meaner lol . not sure which to take to the gig this sun lol . Both are tough to play though after playing my Euro. the string spacing on the dougie is tighter and i miss strings with my left hand on the other ones now lol.

All this talk is giving me Tone Pump GAS! Anyone here have any love for the Aggie? I've heard Lima's clips (which are awesome) but just wondering if the TP or Haz would be better in my new Forte. I'm know, it's been a whole day. :)

Depends on what tone your going for. I like the aggi in the forte. Now I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I definatly hear a difference in the matte finish basses, at least the ones I have played at bass central. Just a little less high end and a little more low mids. I think the aggi gets a great tone in the forte with the the roll off in the highs for that bass. It has a "sweet" tone that I'm sure can get aggressive.

The HAZ sounds great as well but just a little "off" to me in that bass. Not bad, but like its fighting what the bass wants to do naturally in those high mids. The aggi just kind of lets it happen. I haven't heard a TP in the forte yet though. That might work pretty well actually, or it could be a little too much on the low/ low mid side. Curious now..... You can always pick up a pump for pretty cheap and try it. It's a less expensive experiment than the HAZ which we have some great clips of :) :bassist:

That is one thing on the pump, you gotta watch the bass boost a bit. There's a LOT on tap there and things can get really bassy quick. The 18v mod helps that out a bit, still tons of bass on tap, but it's a little more transparent at 18v. I think. highs are a little sweeter too.

You may want to try the Tonepump in the Forte First.

Since it is only $100 compared to $350. If you didnt like the tonepump 100% you can re-sell it in split second on here or you can keep it for your next Spector which I am sure will be coming soon ;)

But I never disliked the OBP2 in the Forte.
