I took Phat's advice on this. I have active EMGs with the Korean Haz copy in my NS-94 and I agree 100% with what he said above.

Because of the pot value differences,
it is overly bright at the extreme knob settings and
there is a bit of a strange mix as you adjust the volume of the bridge and neck PUPs. (It's almost like a on/off not a taper.)

But overall, it still sounds great and growls like mad.

Mightymite recommends using the MM114 with their active PUPs. So I assume it has active pot values.

I am all about the HAZ so I have issues with most of what I have and /or have coming to me in basses...

Try the pump at 18v. Might change your mind.

Actually, all 4 being 100k is surprising regardless.

I guess I didn't notice much difference in the pot values because I don't run the tones cranked. Just a little boost on each.

Exactly. In this scenario you should be just fine with actives and the Korean Haz copy.

I've always wanted a "bird" style bass and have been eyeballing a Rex the last few days. I haven't decided but I might get a Legend to test the waters. How is the holoflash in person? I imagine it would look awesome until stage lighting but how does she look sitting at home? Is there a depth to the paint? If you had to do it again would you have wished you'd have gone without the "flash"? Thanks fella's.

I imagine it would look awesome until stage lighting but how does she look sitting at home? Is there a depth to the paint? If you had to do it again would you have wished you'd have gone without the "flash"? Thanks fella's.

I'm not a fan of the holoflash, but I've played the Rex and a Legend X and either one will do you proud. The Rex was "faster" in my opinion

I had a holoflash rex5 . My only thing to say is that neither the body shape nor the holoflash will sit well in every situation . My red rex5 has seen all types of shows . Have only had one complaint . In a fill in gig guy says "do you have a bass that's a little less rock n roll ?" lol lol

Bass and treb are 100k on the MM, I believe the vol is 25k and I'm not sure on the blend.

I have been kicking around the idea of picking of a Rex for the last few months and I think I am going to pick one up when I can find one for the right price. The one thing that has me a bit hesitant is the neck might be a bit too thin for my liking since I am a fan of the chunkier necks.

I know most tend to think that the thinner the neck is, the faster it is and in some cases, that might be true. The strange thing is though, my NS-5 has the fattest neck out of all the basses I own but man, I can fly on that thing. Maybe I just have larger hands than the normal person though so that could be the case but I would really love to try a Rex out just to see what that neck feels like.

I hear ya man. My Forte 4 changed everything I THOUGHT I knew. Almost every bass I have (non Spector) has a Jazz type neck. I thought that's what I liked but once and got this Forte and it's baseball bat, honestly, heaven. When I pick up my other basses the neck feels like a toy. I am really, really digging the chunk. Much less hand fatigue for my big meat pawls.

My NS 2A has a pretty small neck but just not in a Jazz or EBMM Sterling type of way. I'm going to give it some time and let the honeymoon phase die down but all my "jazz necks" might be going bye bye.

Soooo, that leads me to this: Is the neck on the Rex this like the NS 2A's? I can live with that.

On a slightly different note, for all you Forte owners out there....
The new band that I joined tunes low B, so until now I used a crappy Carvin 5 string so I can learn the songs and audition...(Not dissing Carvin, but the bass I used went out of tune constantly and the thing was a pain in the arse to play!)
Per Sam and Johns advice, I got a set of heavier gauge strings and put them on the Forte. The strings sit a tad high on the nut and I had to to a very minor raise to the bridge but overall it was almost a perfect fit!

We had a long jam last night and WOW, I know someone here has a Forte 5 so they know what I am talking about. Simply WOW! The tone was SO deep and growly, I had a smile on my face the entire jam!

speed of the neck is relative to comfort. IMO Also for me, because I wear my bass low, I like a thinner neck. That makes it easier for me to get around it. Not crazy thin.. I actually think my NS2A is almost too thin (width not front to back)

on guitar I feel its different, thinner flatter necks are faster

+1 My NS-4 is the same way. I had a Euro Doug Wimbish signature, I got rid of it when I got my NS-4 with the bigger neck because it was easier for me to play and faster. Maybe it is bigger hands, who knows.

yeah "fast" doesn't have to mean thin. its more about shape. Funny thing is after playing a neck with a good shape , you realize just how comfortable the old ones you used like are lol. they just fit your hand well and support it , instead of giving you a different shape to move around.

One thing I noticed was the Spector necks have less taper, and a more consistent shape. It seems to make muscle memory easier because your brain has less to remember in the "feel" dept without major width and thickness changes going on at the same time.

That's one thing warwick did that a lot of people don't like but also don't get. That big hump in the neck is actually there for a "feel reminder" or point of reference. When you feel the "hump" your at about the 7th fret. I don't care for it personally, but it was a cool idea.

I played a bass of a buddy of mine who had Fender make him a custom bass....Mediocre to say the least in comparison

LOL that's what it felt like going from my NS5CR to my Ibanez sdgr. I was llike " I hope this doesn't break" and "hey!.....where'd my tone go?"

So do you like those D'Addario nickels or do you think you will swap them out for nickel Lo-Riders? I am very happy with the D'Addarrio's on my Rebop and that used to be strung with Lo-Riders until I needed to go with a higher gauge in order to tune down to low A and not be as floppy.

I am with you on those NS-2A necks but it's obviously personal preference. I have tried 3 different NS-2A's over Limaguy's and I just couldn't get used to the neck on them since it was so thin to me.

Yep, I got some D'Addarios nickel but I will definitely swap with Lo-Riders as I am very used to those and like the tension on them But regardless, the D'Addarios rocked too!

Haha, I was the same way when my brother in law asked me to try out the new bass he got for my nephew for Christmas. He got him this Ibanez Gio, which is a great starter bass by the way so it's not like i was bragging or anything, but you just see the quality difference after playing a Spector.

The holoflash is different.
Not my thing either. But for a stage/performance guitar I think it would grab some attention. Which is the point.

The Rex is neck-thru the body and with the cutaway offers better neck access.

The circuit is better as well. I personally have come to really appreciate the Rex. The 4X is nice two, but the Rex being neck-thru, just seems a little more balanced to me.
