SPECTOR® Club - Part 28

Time for a short semi-review (without writing a biblical flood of words here) of my NS-2.

To start:
The look, as you all saw, is flawless. A true work of art on many levels. It not only looks great, it feels great from a somewhat philosophical point of view I would say that it not only compliments the body by the way it rests on you (like every other Spector) but it also creates a divine symbiotic relationship between the vibratory frequencies of the body and instrument. As I've stated before and many can agree, these things can change you on a molecular level. Sam can attest to that.

Physical feel:
I've had my Forte for a little over a year and I can say that between the two, the neck feels the same to me thus far. Solid solid neck. The similarities between the two physically are almost identical. The only true difference like I stated before is the final "look" and the fact that it was sort of "Custom Made" for me creates a more personal attachment and feel of connection to the instrument.

Sound:
Well, I finally had a chance to hear the beast in its full glory and, you know when you see or hear something that is in it's ultimate form to satisfy many of your senses, one gets this smile on his face...? Well, that, but in a magnitude that can not be described as words would only fail to do it justice.
The HAZ in my opinion, resonates in true perfection with the contours of the instrument (never mind you that the Ampeg rig also does it's magic, but that's subjective). I believe that the curvature of the Spector bass is not only esthetically pleasing, it may have been subconsciously designed to resonate tones a certain way. If anyone has the chance to put one of those in their bass, I would highly recommend doing so. I am soon going to order one for my Forte.

To conclude:
Audio and visual perfection.

(I did replace the nut because it was too low though...)

Looks like a Wimbish, a Zebop, NS-2A, Euro and NS-2JA-R

The black one - is that a Euro, LX? It has black hardware and non-brass nut so wasn't sure.

Great post seventh. I totally understand what you mean on the Haz. I loved my OBP, I mean, really loved the tone but the first time I plucked the E with the Haz in the Forte I knew I had made one of the best decisions in my life.

According to PJ, the black is a last out Kramer with EMGs and Haz....no serial number...he said there were 24 and they were artist basses. It is radically different than the NS2A(red)...

That is awesome! It is refreshing that the Forte is actually a stripped down NS-2 with a different preamp.

I just installed a set of Cobalt Hybrid Slinky's: .045 .065 .085 .105 on my Forte w/ Haz Preamp

I confirmed with Ernie Ball that there was no Nickel in these strings so I ordered a set from Bassstringsonline.com (great price by the way)

Here are my initial feelings.

The Cobalts are crisp and bright.
The Cobalts have very clear low end.
The Cobalts have a bit less lower midrange (but it may just be less muddy)
The Cobalts have tons of sustain.
The Cobalts seemed to have a bit more output.
The Cobalt tension is bit tighter then HiBeams but not as tight as LoRiders.
The Cobalts feel really smooth and balanced.

If you are moving from Nickel to Cobalts they may take a while for you to get accustomed to.

Here are the sound clips for you to listen.
Everything was set identical for both the Cobalt and HiBeams recording.
