Any help here gentlemen?

I have seen them from under a grand to closer to two. I am looking for the same thing, in a five. My projected budget is about 800-1400

A used Euro 6LX goes a bit higher then 4 and 5 string models.

I've never seen one for under a grand...and I'm always looking.
Although deals can be had if you're patient enough.
I got this one in an unusual circumstance (rich guy, 9 other Spectors, bought and never played it, Wife made him clear some "clutter") for $1100 shipped 3 day with Spector case :

He was actually asking $1600. I threw what I thought was the half joking $1100 shipped 3 day offer at him and to my utter shock...he said "yes".
...but Lima's right. $1500 is much closer to normal for these, often higher.

Thanks! 35" of course! Since my Forte5 is 35" I wanted to keep the scales the same so it doesn't mess up my finger memory. Also no gloss on back of neck!

Thanks to everyone that gave great comments and Bumps on both of my bass sales!

They both have sold! It's been a great weekend for selling basses! My poor lonesome Forte 5, Black Angel, will have to wait 4-5 months for company and tow the load! Haha!

A gentleman named Steve had a white NS-2A up for sale... and was asking a really high price for it.

I spoke with him and wanted to make sure everyone here understood that he is new to Spector basses and their going market values and he didn't realize that his beautifully restored NS-2A was way outside the expected price range.

We're a community here my friends and we do a lot to help each other. And there are people who without understanding Spector's history or the going rate for this or that, who will come into an older Spector and not really know what they have and they'll try to sell it without any malice or attempts at ripping anyone off. They just didn't know and to them they're holding this amazing feeling, amazing sounding bass... that's got to be worth a lot right?

In Steve's case he's a great guy who has fallen on hard, hard times due to a bunch of medical bills. I am STILL paying for the last round of surgeries and chemo that saved my life in 2008. So I totally sympathize with his plight.

Go and look at what I wrote him. There's a way to try and help someone who may not be aware of what they are doing without it being about them trying to pull something over on someone. Many people don't know the difference between this or that model of vintage Spector. And as the best, largest, coolest group of people on the planet who live, breathe and eat this stuff we should perhaps try and reach out to guys like Steve.

I know in times past I have reached out and had the door slammed in my face. But that doesn't stop me from trying over and over again. That's what Stuart would do. That's what PJ would do. That's why Spector has the best customer service I've ever seen with any guitar maker.

So you guys do me a favor. Be nice to Steve. He loves his NS-2A. He's had a complete restoration done and everything from chips in the headstock to nicks in the body have been repaired and the entire thing professionally re-finished.

It's a top-notch NS-2A. And he doesn't want to sell it really. But he's got bills he has to pay.

So please let's be good to him, he's our brother after all.

Wow and here I thought getting my Euro 6LX-EX off Vakmere for $1400 shipped in new condition with the Spector HS was a steal. I couldn't believe it at the time.

And then there are also Wolves in sheeps clothing that know what they have and want to pull a fast one on someone that isn't that knowledgeable....is the cup half full or half empty??...I have seen it all too many times in my many years of buying equipment.....People always looking to pull a fast one.

That was a tough lesson I learned when trying to sell a bass I built, just because I liked everything I installed on the bass doesn't mean any other person wants that combination of parts, mods and upgrades aren't always sellable. Like how I want an NS-2A without EMG pickups in it.

Thank you sum! Two basses in two days, I can't believe it! But I give a lot of credit to the awesome support here from our family! You all are great! I'd like to have gotten 1-2 hundred more on the Forte 4 but I got a great deal on it from BC and it's going to a brother here and it's worth putting a huge grin on his face! We want pics like Lee's big grin! Haha! And the legend 4 I about gave away, I thought that I couldn't ever part with my 1st Spector but it felt really good to introduce another F#%*+R player to a better built bass and hopefully convert him and handout another club number. In the end...it's ALL good!

I don't think so, I think that one has the 18v Hazlab pre with volume, blend and stacked bass/treble. The 18v just has three knobs and is standard on the NS-5XLs and NS-6XLs. I think that's what that bass is. Cool bass though, the color is interesting.

NS-5 with a VVT? Is this a Mike Kroeger custom?? He does that to all his Spectors.

No. This is an SSD Era NS-5.
This bass has the SSD bridge (which is the same as the Euro bridge) and has the 18v USA Circuit (made for Spector by HazLabs).

Mike Kroeger has been through a parade of Spectors through the years. He started with USA NS-5XL models that were stock. Then ordered them with different pickup configurations such as a single P pickup and P/J pups instead of humbuckers.

He eventually decided he wanted the cleanest tone from the bass, which meant moving to passive EMG HZ pups and NO circuit at all. Completely passive.

The Mike Kroeger USA NS-5XL signature models are neck-thru or bolt-on all passive basses with EMG HZ pups.

This looks to be a stock SSD Era NS-5.

And in this case you were wrong. The seller simply wasn't aware of the value and after talking with me reduced it down and it was sold, this afternoon for a lot less than he'd originally asked. And a member of this club purchased it.

Well the sure fire way of not knowing what is up with a person is to make snarky, condescending comments to them instead of simply asking them their logic. Which honestly Steve clearly stated in his original post.

And if you look at the analogy I gave him, that taking a $600 car and putting $1100 worth of tires, seat covers and other stuff in it didn't make it a $1700 car. It made it a $600 car with new tires and seat covers. You'll see that you can talk to a person without just assuming they're out to screw someone over.

I totally agree with everyone and spoke to Steve directly about this... that updates and repair work done doesn't mean a more valuable bass.

I have an NS-2A I'll never sell without taking a bath on it. But I didn't buy it to sell it. I bought it to restore, convert to a fretless and play. And it's an amazing good deal as far as I'm concerned. But I know I'd never get the $1200 or so bucks I have in it back out.

I think you, Jeff, know me well enough to know that when it's time to call BS on somebody I'll neither shy away from it or hold any punches back.

I had the guy in England who was selling the counterfeit Euro on Ebay shut down last month. He corrected his listing, apologized and that was the end of it. When it comes to protecting the Spector name, I'm not someone anyone wants to cross. I'm very protective of my good friends.

What I'm saying is that there is an oft forgotten tenant of our culture here in the USA (and I know not all of you are here, but I'm explaining my reasoning for my actions) that you are innocent until proven guilty. You know the old benefit of the doubt thing.

That doesn't mean you have to let people take advantage of you or allow them to use or mistreat you. You can be firm, be strong and not have to be negative to everyone you meet that you might think has ulterior motives.

I also don't think he realized you were making fun of him. You handle things the way you like. But I can tell you that what I see as so special among Spector owners is the sense of brotherhood/fellowship that so many Spector owners share.

And it's disappointing... disheartening that sometimes that's not represented here among what I consider to be a great community of great people.

What I care about is NOT having good people like Steve walk away from THIS forum with a bad taste in their mouths for Spector and Spector owners because someone was rude to them instead of just talking to them and politely educating them.
