And in this case you were wrong. The seller simply wasn't aware of the value and after talking with me reduced it down and it was sold, this afternoon for a lot less than he'd originally asked. And a member of this club purchased it.
Well the sure fire way of not knowing what is up with a person is to make snarky, condescending comments to them instead of simply asking them their logic. Which honestly Steve clearly stated in his original post.
And if you look at the analogy I gave him, that taking a $600 car and putting $1100 worth of tires, seat covers and other stuff in it didn't make it a $1700 car. It made it a $600 car with new tires and seat covers. You'll see that you can talk to a person without just assuming they're out to screw someone over.
I totally agree with everyone and spoke to Steve directly about this... that updates and repair work done doesn't mean a more valuable bass.
I have an NS-2A I'll never sell without taking a bath on it. But I didn't buy it to sell it. I bought it to restore, convert to a fretless and play. And it's an amazing good deal as far as I'm concerned. But I know I'd never get the $1200 or so bucks I have in it back out.
I think you, Jeff, know me well enough to know that when it's time to call BS on somebody I'll neither shy away from it or hold any punches back.
I had the guy in England who was selling the counterfeit Euro on Ebay shut down last month. He corrected his listing, apologized and that was the end of it. When it comes to protecting the Spector name, I'm not someone anyone wants to cross. I'm very protective of my good friends.
What I'm saying is that there is an oft forgotten tenant of our culture here in the USA (and I know not all of you are here, but I'm explaining my reasoning for my actions) that you are innocent until proven guilty. You know the old benefit of the doubt thing.
That doesn't mean you have to let people take advantage of you or allow them to use or mistreat you. You can be firm, be strong and not have to be negative to everyone you meet that you might think has ulterior motives.
I also don't think he realized you were making fun of him. You handle things the way you like. But I can tell you that what I see as so special among Spector owners is the sense of brotherhood/fellowship that so many Spector owners share.
And it's disappointing... disheartening that sometimes that's not represented here among what I consider to be a great community of great people.
What I care about is NOT having good people like Steve walk away from THIS forum with a bad taste in their mouths for Spector and Spector owners because someone was rude to them instead of just talking to them and politely educating them.
