SPECTOR® Club - Part 33

I hear you.

I have to admit that being a "Spector purist" and loving the growly sound of the 1980's NS-2s... the BEM models are different. Punchy, with a slightly... I don't know... a tone that's more mid to high instead of the bone-crunching lows you get with the pau-ferro.

So for me... I say that I'm glad I've got The Black Pearl. It's a really amazing bass. But regarding the "purist 1980's" sound, it'll be the only BEM Spector NS-2 I get.

I think I'm going to stick with the Pau Ferro for the NS-2 and NS-4. But am totally open to the maple option on the ReBop and the USA Bolt-On models. I think that fingerboard works great with the bolt-on necks.

Yes :D Like on a Bahama Blue Coda 5 DLX! :D

Thank you for the answer. This was an NS1 I bought as a project and sent to Michael Dolan to finish. The body had cracked on the end and he had discussed with Mr. Spector about the weighted materials that had reacted and expanded causing the crack. Dolan did a great job on the bass and I was glad to get a piece of history restored. Some before and after pics:

A very nice looking NS-1! How's she sound?

I was able to do a quick and dirty recording (XLR out the back of my Carbine M6 to a computer) of a bass line today at band rehearsal. It's weird, just hearing the bass line, especially cuz there are a couple of long breaks in this song (synth only). So, skip to 0:35, then skip from 2:20 to 2:40 to avoid complete silence.
I'm not very happy with the "performance", but I was not 100% today; however, you get a feel for the sound of the Alex Webster sig bass. I had the p/u blend in the middle, bass at 80%, treble at around 25%, mids at around 40%, and the mid-sweep at around 40% (low frequency), master vol cranked on the bass.
If you wanna hear the actual song, recorded with a "vanilla" bass line (the songwriter initially recorded everything himself), here's the link:

I hope this gives everyone an idea of the sound - enjoy!

Very nice! I love that dry raspy growl and then the low mid punch that pops in once in awhile. That bass is a mad monster!

the EMG 35p and 35j are p/j pickups in soapbar casings... Ice has them on his forte5 and Iwill be putting them on my rex4 soon enough...

and I agree the is a great bass

awesome, thanks!

i just bought an ns-94, which is the model the ns2000 came after, from limaguy with 35 sb's and a korean haz. all i can say is :bassist::bassist::bassist:. go for it. great basses like grendle said.

Looks like Spector #3 will be delivered tomorrow! Thanks for the help fella's.

Hooooly....I missed out on part 32! Wow, this thread moves fast! :D

My wife had to have surgery on her ankle on Saturday. The bone didn't mend well at all after the first 2 weeks in the cast so they had to put in a plate. So it's back to square one.

I haven't been playing much over the last couple of weeks...trying to work full time and taking care of everything at home leaves me tired and with no time at all.
I managed to get a friend to come over and look after my wife so I finally had my first jam with the band last night and MAN that felt good!!!!!!!! Hearing the bass through the amp was very healing to me. I just stood there and sustained notes for a while with my head close to the amp... :)

Also, we booked our first show on June 7th!!! I'm already nervous! :bassist: :bassist:
We're playing 6 songs from our set list. Opening for a local band. The venue is pretty small, 200 people, but it's a beauty! :D Can't wait!!

I hope to be able to visit the thread more often now that things are a bit calmer...

Hope all gets better bro!!!
That's awesome about your first show! We need video :)
