Can't wait to hear how the PJ pickups in the humbucker casings stack up to your regular PJ sets. Even though I'm sure it's not a high priority right now, let us know ASAP! The curiosity is strong in this one.
mmmm...I ordered my white one in October and its still not here,...and what is that a red ninja on your avatar??
They make a lot of light weight heads that can give you a good transparent sound for an active Spector bass...I actually preferred my Thunderfunk over a 70lb Ampeg tube head. But when I played a passive J-bass on the tube head it sounded better than the active Spector.

I learned my lesson, thats for sure. The good news is the guy at Guitar Center who sold me the bass juat sent me an email a little while ago saying I can take the strings into a local GC and they would exchange them.
So I can put the DR Low Riders on tonight or wait to get DR High Beams tomorrow. Hmmmmm?

That's how it will most likely end up, yes. I'll keep the white Euro and my MTD (which I have sworn to never, ever sell... and yes I know everyone says that about a bass sooner or later, but I've managed to stick to it with this one). I'll have the Euro LX4 and 5 around for a bit though so that I can enjoy having them and feeling like a guy that can indulge all of his GAS fantasies for five minutes I'd like to keep at least one of them until the white Euro comes in from BC. And then they'll have to go so that I can keep working off the debt. After all, that's what I did the work for initially: I intended to sell whatever I got in barter to pay off bills. I just got caught up in the GAS moment when he offered to get me a couple of basses on Amazon... I was weak, I was weak.Ah! You may be the "other guy" Beaver mentioned when he said he had two coming in soon. Soon being relative, obviously.

But then we wouldn't be playing Spectors without the wonders of electromagnetism, so maybe there is some significance to it...

I do the hard rock/heavy metal thing, and my Spectors really came alive once I switched from nickle to steel strings. Made a huge difference on my Rickenbackers as well - like night & day.
BTW, just a general thing for the Spector brethren/sistren:
I've got a bunch of leftover EMG stuff from various installs. Particularly I have volume, tone and balance pots both for X series pickups and regular (you need a different EMG tone pot for the X series everything else is interchangeable) as well as a bunch of input jacks and their plug and play wires, battery clips, etc. EMG makes their stuff out of Switchcraft materials, so it's really solid gear and I have no need of it. It's just in a pile of parts that I use when working on friends' stuff or my own. So if anyone is in need, send me a PM or email and I'll see if I can help you. This is for free, by the way. I think this would be a nice way to help some people out while times and wallets are tight. After reading through the club posts, a lot of folks are doing more affordable electronics swaps to try out different tones rather than make the financial leap to entirely different basses. Since EMGs are at the heart of 99% of Spectors and some of you may go with EMG electronics (they sure as hell are the most affordable and easiest to install) to put in the back of your basses, it struck me that these parts I've got may be helpful to some people who are doing upgrades. I'm a big believer in paying it forward and if I can help save a fellow bass player some cash it feels like a good thing to do. So get in touch if you need anything and if I have it, it's yours.

They just took this down to just over $1500. New. I guess it was a return, demo, NOS or something, but it's a retailer, not a personal sale. The price is enormously silly with free shipping. I don't know if anyone has played the Euro LX 6 necks, but they are super comfy and this one had a nice flamed piece running right down the middle. It's also got the TWs (which I don't dig personally, but some folks do) and comes with a Spector case. I wish I had the cash for this. In fact, it makes me wish I had credit cards again... almost. And it's got a beautiful top on it too. Anyway, just thought I'd put a little GAS temptation in everyone's day.

I always do this also because with the multiple windings, if there is a defective string it's more likely to be the bigger ones. That way you're less likely to find out, after the others are already cut and on, that you have an issue.
FWIW, this is one of the reasons I've used D'Adarrios almost exclusively for a very long time. After around 450 sets, I have never had even one dead or defective string. Can't say that about any of the other major brands, and unless they've come out in the last 20 years, I've tried them all for extended periods.
After over 25 years of changing the high string first, I am going to start doing it the other way. Thanks for the tip, both of you. That totally makes sense.

Just picked up a jive Ns2a. It's sweet and sounds good....but I just don't like it! Am I crazy?
