Yeah, the Ns2a. The nscrfm is thinner, and the jar even thinner. I think I was expecting too much from the Ns2a.....it'll be in the chopping block soon lol

Man, that sounds great! You and I have pretty much the same setup since I am running the Apogee Jam into Garageband and it works really well. Did you create that drum loop with Garageband? That is my next thing to mess with since right now I am only recording clips of just the bass itself.

Thanks John. The drum track is actually a mix of two kits, then bounced down to 1 track. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the bass recorded clean without any amp modeling. I'm guessing that's the 'microphone' setting?

Amazing. The Apogee Jam seems like a fantastic tool. I want to try and find one for less than $99. That's so cool to have a portable recording studio and all you need is your phone, a small device a few cables and a bass. Technology is so awesome sometimes you have to stop and marvel at what's possible even compared to just 5 years ago. And now I sound old.

Ain't that the truth? I'd been laboring with a USB Tascam gizmo and trying to record using Acid Pro, then Audacity - but again, the latency in Windows 7 drives me nuts. This little piece of technology and Garageband ($4.99, can you believe that? ) makes for a great recording sketch pad.

You're getting a white NS-2? That's just awesome. It'll sound insane. The US bridge alone makes such a difference - all that brass... plus all that maple... and the Haz Lab... just the whole thing is insane. So anything else custom on it besides the finish?

No I sold my white Ns2, I am getting a black Ns2...The white one I am getting is a Euro Ian Hill....

I'm no expert by any strecth but I think the Euro's come with 40CS's. At least the 5 and 6 string models do.

Not quite......
These are actually the TW's, not the CS's.
True, in humbucking mode the TW's spec out like the CS's,
but the true CS's are not coil splitable (and only have 2 coils where the TW's actually have 3).

Here's where the confusion may lie:
Spector calls the TW's "CS-TW's" on their site.
Not sure why they do this as even EMG does not. Simply TW's (probably to avoid the confusion we have here).
As far as the humbucker soapbars go it's: DC or CS or TW.

WHAT ARE THE MODEL NUMBER/NAME AND SPEC CHANGES FOR EUROPE SERIES NECK-THRU BASSES OVER THE YEARS?
Good question! Here is some overall info that should help.

First please note that since we started our Czech factory in late 1993 and delivering basses in 1994, these have been and continue to be true production versions of their USA handcrafted counterparts. That is why they started out with solid maple body wings, solid brass bridges, and 34" scale, just like the USA NS-4 and NS-5 at that time.

Over the years we have made some revisions and updates to these basses to improve them so now they are a little different than their USA counterparts, such as bridge material and EMG CS-TW pickups.

Most importantly, please note that a spec change did not always happen when the model name/number changed, and the reverse is true (model name/number change with no spec change).

1994
Czech made neck-thru basses start production.
First two years or so, no serial number.
Then a 4 digit serial number was added inside the control cavity.
After that the number moved the back of the headstock.
These are 4st and 5st, all 34" scale, SSD name and logo.

Model NUMBERS: NS-4CR, NS-5CR. "FM" was used at the end of the model number to indicate if solid figured maple body wings.
Neck: 3pc maple, graphite reinforced.
Fingerboard: rosewood, 24 frets, dot markers
Body Wings: solid maple
Bridge: solid brass, 'non shiny' matte gold finish
EMG pickups: P/J 4st, 40DC 5st
Active Tone Controls:
1994 short-lived Czech made circuit, copy of our USA 9v circuit.
1995-2001 EMG BT

1999 (Often called the "Transition Year")
In mid 1999 we switched to our famous original "SS" name and logo on our Czech basses, after purchasing our trademarks back from the Kramer era.

We added our USA style mother of pearl inlays to these fingerboards, made 5sts 35" scale, and made "FM" figured maple body wings standard.

We upgraded our USA neck-thru basses from mother of pearl to abalone inlays at this time to differentiate the inlay specs

Yes there are some 'transition' basses out there, with "SS" Spector name and logo but with dot fingerboard markers.

Also please note a small batch of dot fingerboard marker basses were made at this time with non figured maple body wings, passive pickups, and black hardware. This was to move thru the last of the dot neck fingerboards and produce a less expensive version.

2002
We used Aguilar OBP-1 active tone controls in this year, starting in late 2001.

We started the ReBop bolt-on Czech model, and started to rename the neck-thru model NUMBERS NS-4CR FM and NS-5CR FM to model Euro4, Euro5.

2003 - current
Spector TonePump starts. This original version does not have an internal trim pot like current version.

The Euro gold bridge changed from solid brass to a zinc brass alloy material which is lighter in weight but still has a brass tone. This material is gold plated and polished shiny like USA bridges. Very shortly after these bridges go into production we add the script Spector name engraved in the bridge.

2004
"LX" version begins. These are Euro4LX and Euro5LX with body wings with alder back, slice of walnut, USA figured maple top. This new 'version' instantly replaces solid maple wing version via customer and store orders!

2006
Euro6LX model is introduced.

2008
New version of TonePump begins, with internal output trim pot to allow more control over instrument output.

Due to many requests for single/dual coil pickup operation, we start to use EMG CS-TW pickups in Euro4LX TW, Euro5LX, and Euro6LX.

Here's a cover of Freddie Washington's bass line on Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen. NS-2A, flat EQ, P pickup soloed, into Apogee Jam, into iPhone Garageband. Used the 'Clean' amp with a little mid-scoop and slight compression. Then looped it in Audacity. I think it came out a little distorted.

Still, not bad for 30 mins work, lol.

I also recently purchased the Apogee Jam and use it with my iPad. The amp models can be a little challenging, but the clean one, as you've just demonstrated, can get the job done. I also like the Classic Crunch and Sunshine Drive (Orange) models. It's too bad, and surprising, they don't have bass amp models in GarageBand yet.

I have the Apogee Jam as well and i am really happy with it. I need to mess around more with Garageband but so far, I really like what you can do.

To anyone that has an iPad or iPhone as well as a Mac, definitely check out the app called Jammit. This is really the coolest thing i have ever seen and they are coming out with a beta Windows version tomorrow.

It has the original master recordings for the songs along with notation and tablature and you can hear exactly how the songs were played and even slow them down and loop them so you can figure them out. I bought the whole "Vulgar Display of Power" by Pantera pack and it really is just amazing. The songs seem a bit pricey but to be able to get the actual master recording and remove certain parts and record yourself over it, i think it's worth it.
