That's how my Performer was, it's never needed to be adjusted. The Rex, on the other hand, was bought used from a Guitar Center in California, and the Southern California climate is pretty different from the Colorado climate, so it needed some set-up. This is the only bass I've ever really done my own set-up on, so I've been trying to learn as I go. I'm not really sure how low is considered "low" though, so I don't know if I can get it lower without buzz or if I should just keep working on finger strength for tapping. Here's a picture of my action for reference:

If you can't get it done right from the shop, its a easy fix. Stock, it does 2/3 of the options. might need to add a mini toggle switch for it to operate to its fullest. I think personally the only change Id do is make that pickup active, but I gotta hear the HZs first. Curiosity is killing me!!! ARGG! I feel like my 4LX-TW gets close to the tone that I would think comes from it, but you never really know, do ya? Bolt on, pickup position, MAPLE fingerboard! Feels like its my birthday just thinking about it haha. \m/

Just eyeballing it I would say it's a little high. But that could be my beer speaking.:p

Ya that is higher than my basses too. I did have to tweak the neck on my crfm when I was experimenting with strings.

Cracked a bottle of Snoqualmie Valley Ale and put on some new strings. A set of Roto's so it would have the same strings as my Legend 5 for comparision. The Roto's have a .110 E string which is a lot bigger than what was on the bass when I got it. (probably about a .95) Right away it had more girth to the notes. It flat out rocks.:bassist: Playing through my fEARful 12/6 driven by a GK 2001RBP into a Carvin HD1500. I also had a BDDI infront as well. This bass has some great tones in it. I could dail up clean to slight grit (BDDI) to ball out overdrive with the 2nd channel of the GK. And that was leaving the tone controls on the bass alone. I can already tell this is going to be my main player for a while. I will string up my G&L with some flats for a blues bass. My Legend 5 may get played if I need something below drop D, but that's probably it. The NS2A is the FN shiznit.:bassist::bassist::bassist:
Thanks again for all the advice from the Spector group that led me to this sweet bass.

Given both 4 strings are 34" scale, the pickup on the Spector is clearly barely half the distance from the saddles (the witness point) as on the Ray. :hmm:

I'm wondering if that is just a shopped pic. Stuart has gotten it right in the past, I'm sure he will get this one right too.

Can't tell on Jasonger's at that angle.
mmbongo's, like the Rebop MM4, is clearly much closer than the Ray.

No one really said this was supposed to be a direct impression of the Ray, just a single pickup version.
There's really nothing to "get right" in that sense. If it sounds good it is good.
But it won't sound like a Ray anyway with, not only pickup displacement but, EMG's, different pre, etc.

But to be in the actual Ray position on the Rebop MM4 or even mmbongo's US bolt-on 5, those pickups need to be a good inch or so forward.

that's what I meant.... get right = great sounding bass
