this is interesting and a little concerning. I use 45-105 on my Fenders and music man and have my action signifigantly lower on the Fender and music man with no fret buzz. I'm hoping the cause of this is me and the setup and not the bass. I can't seem to dial in either Euro just like I like it. Is it the neck through that's throwing me off? Almost everything I've had up till now has been bolt on necks. :confused::confused:

Don't be concerned!!

For me, it took a little bit of time and effort to get them to sound good. A top notch setup and learning to play with a lighter touch helped me! I LOVE how fast and effortless the light gauges allow me to play! I mainly use 35-95 and the occasional 40-95 on my four strings on all my four bangers.


Even when I drift to other gauges, I always go back to the lighter gauges! ...much like when I drift to other bass manufacturers, I always end up back with Spector! :bassist:

sadowsky steels 40-100. there was just a touch, but not much if any before I changed strings. BUT....the action was higher than I like it and there was a little more neck relief than I like. It seems like the neck angle to the bridge is high. The 24th fret seems to be causing the buzz (from the 12th -23rd fret) when I get the action low enough.

I know I keep referencing my Fenders and Music Man, and maybe I'm just comparing oranges to apples. I dunno. I just know that the action on my Fender and Stingray 5 is lower and better than the Euro, presently that is. Still trying to dial it in.

My guess is your set up. Take it to someone if you're having trouble. I bought my NS-2 used and the action was so low I couldn't believe it. I had to raise it because I can tend to be fairly heavy handed (though I'm working on it). I would expect your Spector neck to be as good, and most likely better than the Fender and Musicman....

Sadly it won't see much play time because I play fretless but I liked the way it looked and it's just another cool Spector I had to have.
Eventually I won't own any more fretted instruments again but being relatively new to Spector I just can't keep my hands off and as you know there are not many cool looking fretless basses compared to fretted, the only Fretless spector I own is converted.

I have used leather since the early 80's and even after trying others I always come back to leather. Not that leather is anything special, it just seems to work...
