I setup all my own Spectors with the neck FLAT or a very slight bow. Then I adjust the bridge saddles up/down as needed. I like my strings crazy low! Right now on my Forte 5 I have RotoSounds 77's 45,65,85,105,130. Here's a picture of the B & G strings at the 12th;

I don't use a pick so i may give it a try. Just curious if that coating mute the brightness of stainless or it sounds just like normal stainless strings.
It's interesting anyway what you guys strung your Spectors with nowadays. I've used Dean Markley Blue Steels and EB Cobalts recently but i believe i need to try something else. My Euro 4LX-TW is strung with DR Lo Riders and I love them, just thinking which strings will marry my NS-2 to make a perfect pair....

Here's a couple of pics of how low I set the bridge saddles. Probably much lower than most. Also you might have a high fret on your G string at the 24th. Not totally uncommon but rarer on USA Spectors I've seen.

I don't use a pick either, I have a set on my Aria and I can take a pick of what they will look like in 2 months of modrate playing. With a pick I would think it would be twice as fast. I've gotten used to strings that stay bright for a long time so I really noticed how quick these dulled out. Because I don't use a pick nor slap I like a string that stays bright. You never know till you try them out. Everyone's experience and taste is different. I'm not much on buying and changing strings all the time. I do play and practice around 20 hours a week.

With this latest NS 2005 acquisition came a Spector leather bag, it's one of the nicest bags I have ever seen but I don't see anything on the Spector site about leather.
What's up? Anyone know? Did they quit making them?

Haven't tried them on my Spectors yet but that is my go to string for my Stingrays. Knocks some of the sizzle off the top end and reinforces the low end. Never had a problem with string life or flaking but I dont play with a pic.

I have used the black beauties and the neons and still have them on two basses. I like them. I have had no real issues with wear or color. I do sweat a lot also....I find them to be somewhat compressed just a little in tone. I think the color coated strings do take just a touch of sizzle out of the tone, but I'm not a sizzle guy. I like round full tone. I find the strings to last for a long time. There is my experience, you will find everyone else's might be a little different. Try a set. What's $25 for a good 45-105 set of bass strings anyway right?

I would agree with this.

I think I'm gonna give the Spector Nickels a shot on the Coda. It makes sense.

I love the Spector strings! Very even across the board, excellent mids and high mids. Definitely give them a try. I told PJ that I am appointing myself the Spector strings champion. Meaning, championing the cause. I do have to point out that my experience is only with the nickels.

Apparently I use really high action, I like to be really aggressive with my right hand playing style, I like to be able to play lightly and be a bit cleanish, then dig in and go at them really hard to really get grit and grind, not to mention using different techniques strumming chords and the occaisional slap bit, and while I can do all those with my action where it is (we're talking 3/32" to 1/8" at the 24th fret!) with low action it is all buzz with much of those techniques I use.

So frankly I never got peoples obsession with low action...what is the benefit?
