I'm actually planning to do something similar- once I get my old modulus sold, I'm looking at picking up another Spector 5 banger and setting one up to be tuned down a step. That way I could go ACGCF for drop C stuff, or drop the whole thing down a half step for when I want to learn some between the buried and me stuff and just to mess around with. Then I'll sell off my fretless and have my stable down to just 3 spectors and an upright :bassist:

After seeing Dan Briggs live recently, I am definitely not ready to try any of his stuff yet :) I think I need to buy those song books he put out though but I need to find out where they sell them. I hear they sell them at shows but too bad I found out about that after I saw them.

I want to do the drop C thing also and right now, I am using a .110 for the E string which is definitely not enough. I am thinking at least a .120 for that but might even go to a .125.

Jamie tried one of my 5 string basses with a ck .150 for drop A. My 4 had the .120 set. I think he like em. He normally plays lighter gauges, maybe he can weigh in?
There I go volunteering him again

I'd go for the Thunderfunk also, Jeff. I love Glockenklang, I REALLY do, but Thunderfunk makes the sweeter sounding (and more affordable) heads, IMO. Plus they always sound WAY louder than what they official rate at. And as it's been mentioned, having the builder right here in the US for warranty and/or upgrade work is pretty fantastic.

I found the book for colors on amazon, they had the one for the great misdirect on an independent publishing site. I'm not sure on which one, but it's available through indie merch store:

(you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere).

And it'll be interesting to see what gauges you end up going with for that tuning. Let us know what you think of the circle K's when you get them!

You tried the .150 Jamie? How was the tension on those strings? I can't wait to try them but the set that I want is going to be close to $50 most likely so i am getting hesitant on buying them.

Cool, thanks man. Yeah, I saw them on that Lulu site but it said 3-5 days to ship so i was hoping there might be a place that was a bit quicker but I guess not. Can you tell I am impatient? :)

The single .150 Hybrid and .106 balanced set was 45.65. If you go to their Facebook page they will have coupons, just have to check every day. I ordered the .124 for D/C and .086 .065 .047 on the 4 string at the same time and got free shipping. The strings are 6 months old and still sounding great. So with free shipping and the coupon it was like 65.00. Just email Skip so that you get the right set for the tuning and you shouldn't be disappointed. If so I'll buy them from you if they are that size.
