SURE it is!

I said the same thing 2 weeks ago. Since then I bought a Spector Forte 5, a MTD 535, a Gibson Midtown hollowbody and a new Crest poweramp.

I REALLY think I am done for a while now.... But I wouldn't bet on myself!

Yeah if it's one thing I've learned since playing Spectors is that I'm not making any swears, promises or pledges. S.A.S. is too addicting and theres way a lot of Spectors out there to be played!!!

I had a Legend 5 Custom. The neck is thinner than a Fender Precision, and it was about the same as a Yamaha BB425. I also have a Fender Jazz, and the Legend was just a hair thinner - but keep in mind, I had a 5 string Legend, comparing it to a 4 string Jazz.

Has anybody here played one of the Limited Edition walnut bodied/mop inlay/Badass bridge NS-2 reissues? The steep price & subdued look didn't do much for me at first, but the more I look at them, the more I find myself catching a bad case of "Old School" fever...

I came really close to plunking down a deposit on a custom NS-6XL but I really need to knock down some bills in the next year before I start investing that kind of scratch.

Problem now is I don't really have anything I consider expendable. The new 435 will put me at 6 Spectors, but all of them have a purpose. I could see maybe moving my 6LX to fund a deposit on a 6XL but then I'm without a 6-string Spector for 6-7 months and I could see needing one for recording during that time.

My two old Carvins aren't worth selling and have too much sentimental value anyway. I have my Carvin fretless 6 but it's my only fretless so again don't want to be without that.

That leaves my two SR5's. The single H has been with me for a decade and isn't going anywhere. That leaves a very pretty blue SR5 HH I got last year. Probably the best sounding non-Spector I have. And its build date was my birthday. I mean, you can see my dilemma right?

If you sold you 6LX, you can purchase a Legend 6 fairly cheap...then you'd have a great 6st until your new 6XL comes in. I know that's a step in a different direction...I just did that in order to pay some car repairs etc...and I tell ya what, I'm having a blast with this ReBop 4!!! I forgot how gritty and growly they can get! Once I got it dialed in...the smile on my face stayed all day! Haha I'm going to convert it to BEAD though...I need to keep my 5r chops going.

Seems pretty straight forward.

1) Check with PJ to see which Hipshot A-Style bridge Spector uses.

2) Confirm that the outside dimensions of the replacement bridge cover any marks in the paint left by the 6-hole vintage bridge.

3) Take your bass to a well respected luthier and have him mount it for you.

1. Already spoke with PJ. He suggested trying a Bad Ass V.

2. I'm looking into different bridges now that would work size wise.

3. I haven't found a luthier in town, yet. Not sure that there is one.

If you're going to switch bridges anyway, I wouldn't bother with anything that's not quick release. Hipshot, baby!

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the BA bridges. I always preferred the Gotoh 201 to the BA II.

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the BA bridges. I always preferred the Gotoh 201 to the BA II.

I am a huge fan of Hipshot bridges. I had a Hipshot type A bridge on my Clement and have a type B bridge on my NS-JH5 and love both of them.

My Ric 4003 had high action & was hard as hell to intonate until I installed a Hipshot bridge on it. On that particular bridge there a few tricks to get it set up properly, but once I did, it took my 4003 from an average player to the best 4003 I've ever owned. I'm also a fan of their tuning machines & drop-D tuners.

That being said, I could use a little help from the group if you have a second. I am a HUGE fan of the P/J sound, so what is the cheapest entry point if I want that pickup configuration? Is it a Euro4LX Classic? I'm absolutely willing to go used, and upgrade pups / preamp if necessary. I'm basically drooling over the sound of the NS2, but the entry price is likely too steep. I'd preferably want to keep it around 1500.00, but I don't even know if that's possible. Any info would be fantastic, thanks!

For $1500 you can easily find a used Euro 4LX, and install a USA Spector preamp, giving you about 95% of the NS-2 tone for less than 1/2 the price of an NS-2. The Euros really are great basses - mine plays & sounds almost as good as my USA Spector.

I'm loving my NS2A right now. You could buy one, upgrade the pre & pick-ups (if you felt the need) and still be in for under a grand.

The Euro's I see used for around a grand (give or take) and all look stellar.

I wanted to provide you with an initial NS 4 assessment. I got it yesterday and one thing is for sure...it is a work of art. The burl on this bass is darker than my old buckeye. The pau ferro board is also very light and it goes so well with the rest of the bass. The gloss just sets everything off. I just stare at it for long periods of time.

The tone. The tone, as many have said, is different. Yes, you can definitely tell it's a Spector but the tone is big and wide with more of a hifi type sound than my NS 2. Both basses (NS 2 and NS 4) hit you hard but the NS 2 is more focused and the NS 4 is broader. I equate it to being hit with a baseball bat or a 2"X12". Although I'm not a 100% but the EQ points seem different on the 2 basses. The bass on the NS 4 seems "bassier" and the treble seems to have more glass and sheen....not quite and sweet as the NS 2 treble, which to me, seems to bring some high mids with it.

Slap tone: I'm not a big slapper BUT the slap on it is insanely good.

Anyway, I think it'll be a nice addition to the sound stable. It's second test will be with the band on Friday. I'm sure it will sound even better in the mix. It's going to have its work cut out for it to knock the NS 2 and Forte off the top of the pile.

The white NS2A that brotherbassj has for 500.00 is a awesome Spector to start with. It has upgraded pickups and pre, but is still a great sounding bass and very versatile. It is a little bit different than the stock ones, but still a great deal.

It has the 35dc's right? I have 2 basses with dc's 35 and 40. I find them to be very clean and clear. I find myself trying to tame the top end on them sometimes. I think that the mid control really helps with the dc's, where my NS2 doesn't have a mid control I don't miss it on that bass. I couldn't live without the mid band on the dc loaded basses. Did the NS 4 come with a mid control knob?
