SPECTOR® Club - Part 45

My White Euro LX with the Wimbish neck just showed up. A bunch of us were speculating that it would actually be a Wimbish model, just painted white, but the price Beaver had me pay didn't match with the usual Wimbish cost. But I was told by BC that it would be coming with a Wimbish neck. So the big mystery is if it would be a regular Euro LX with a Wimbish neck option in gloss white or a Wimbish model in gloss white. Turns out it's a regular LX in gloss white with a Wimbish neck option. No Doug Wimbish signature on the headstock, but it definitely has the skinnier neck compared to my "faux forte" Euro LX 4 in matte black.

Pics as soon as I can find my camera. But it's beautiful. The US 9v I ordered isn't here yet, so I'm just going to not mess with it and keep the TP in it until it shows up. Oh and it shipped with D'Addarrios just like Jamie's recent Plum Wimbish. And it shipped from Woodstock instead of overseas... maybe the Woodstock shop went over it and set it up before it left their hands?? No idea. Regardless, it's awesome. I'll get pics up soon.

What's your guys thoughts on installing the "Smadder" type upgrade that I read about? Replacing the Tone Pump Jr in my Legend-5 with the BTC & EXB or maybe just a BTS system? Also the possibility of 40DC's compared to the SSD's.
Any input would be appreciated. I just don't know how well the tone pump jr stands up against a real EMG pre.

I don't like sizzling highs and I don't slap. I'm old school fingerstyle and I play classic rock/new hard rock/metal if that makes a difference.

My vote would be for the tonepump and DCs or PJs (I prefer PJs)

If you were to put an EMG pre in it, it seems that the BQC is the preferred one these days even for Smadder

Congrats Steve! My understanding is that all the Euros go to Woodstock to be inspected/set up then shipped from there.
I bet that bass is killer!

Emg BQC preamp, three band, sweepable mids......hands down hot riddled and awesome! Period.....end story. And DCs .....

The Czech Shop ships with D'Addarrios if they run out of Spector Strings. There is also a 3rd brand that no one seems to know what brand it is. lol

Some special order Czech basses go through Woodstock, they usually ship directly to Hanser now.

They may be one of the companies that makes them. I have heard there has been a few.

They are made to Stuart's Specifications.
The Nickels come with a tapered B and E string.

For those of you who are lucky enough not to have a nickel allergy, (like me) you should try them, I have heard only good things about the Spector Nickel strings

The Steels come with all exposed cores except the G string.

I tried them but never dug the overtones that the exposed core gives.

Yeah I have them on my BEAD 435 right now. They're pretty bright, but then again that's the only P/J Spector I have at the moment so that could be making them seem brighter.

They're the only strings I've had on there so I can't say if I noticed more overtones vs. non-exposed cores.

I'm planning to set it up for drop C# or drop C, and if I can get the non-tapered DR 125 through the bridge slot I'll probably stick with steel Lo-Riders on that bass going forward. Also thinking about trying the Circle K balanced drop tune sets, and the bigger strings all taper.

I've had a bass strung E-C for a while now. The new Coda came in set up B-G and the B is great. But I find that I kind of prefer having the high C to the low B. I'm considering stringing the Coda up E-C now.

Are you SURE those are the stock gauge strings? Those are very odd gauges for stock strings.

Also, every Legend that I've seen has had non-tapered strings. I'm no expert, just what I've seen. Give the Spector strings a try.

The only combo I haven't used with the TP is with DCs, I've had, HZs and PJs with the TonePump with and without the trim pot.... O goodness I love the TP, the most underrated and misunderstood preamp out there IMHO ..... well, mine and Rex Brown and Dirty Ray... :D

Has anybody that has used both the Schallers with the bottom screws vs. the side screws...notice, does there seem to be a difference in the length of the tuning posts?

My Euro4 has the ones with the screw on the bottom.
I just put on a Hipshot M4 Xtender, but it's set up for the side screw position.
So, after installation (and drilling a new hole in the side position :hmm:) it's clear that the tuning post is about 1/4'' shorter than the other tuners.

Workable, but I'm just wondering if there is another version and this one was meant as a match for the Schallers with the side mount screw. :confused:
