He thought it was an early Euro model and cut the lower horn out to give him more room to reach the 21st through 24th frets... then was gigging and it got stolen.

Crazy! I was so freaked out when I saw the missing lower horn. And he had picked it up from someone who didn't know what it was, so he paid next to nothing for it. And figured it was just an everyday average Euro. But he loved the sound so he butchered it. LOL.

When I told him what it was, I seriously thought he was going to hurt himself. And then he was really upset.

I hope whoever got the bass from Guitar Center yesteday realizes what they have. It's sad to see these beautiful old Brooklyn and Kramer basses fall into the hands of people who don't realize what they are and they treat them like a pawn-shop throw-away.

Behold Kramer-Era NS-2 #1579.

This was a custom-order special paint job done by Mr. George Felise for Barry Dunaway, bassist for Yngwie Malmsteen.

This bass is currently visiting my office before its final journey to its new owner in England, Mr. Gary Piears-Banton, who happens to have the largest collection of USA Spectors in Europe.

Many of you know Gary... he's a member here. :D

This bass has a great tone. Growl for days. It's actually the loudest (highest output) Kramer-Era USA Circuit I've ever heard. It's almost TonePump-ish.

But once you dial in the tone. It's a sweet sounding bass.

Original hardware (mostly... new strap lock buttons, one new knob and a Hipshot Xtender aftermarket install that's now 20 years old, so it's pretty much part of the bass' history), original circuit and pups. The neck is in great condition. The truss rod is perfect, operates perfect.

I've got the action super low. It's really a sweet playing and sounding vintage Spector.

There's some issues with the paint. But I think Gary is going to have it preserved, it's going to be an amazing addition to his collection and I'm really happy it's getting such a great home.

Gary told me he's seen this bass live countless times and never thought he'd see it come on the market for sale. So it's a dream come true for him.

Just to put this out there:

I really am earnestly seeking a white Euro or possibly a Kramer era Spector 4. I can entertain anything up to $2300ish. It'd be great if it was a Euro of some kind from the SSD era on up in order to save some money, but if it were a Kramer era model... well, I'd be pretty happy with it from what everyone has told me and said here on the board about the weight and neck profile. So if you can help a fellow American who's down on his luck... sorry. Random classic Looney Tunes moment.

Seriously though. If you know of anything out there or see it, please keep me in mind if you could. If Beaver can't work anything or it's going to be more than a year's wait... or the pre-amp upgrade is too expensive... I may just go for the refund and try my luck elsewhere.

And one other thing: if I do get to order a customized version, what do you guys think of getting black hardware with the white gloss finish? It'll change the tone a bit because of the aluminum bridge (the gold one is a brass/zinc alloy), but it would be unique looking... kind of like an NS-2A reissue bass of a sort...like Chris' could do with his Ian Hill let;s say and it would have that Eddie Jacksonish vibe... I'm considering it if it works out, but the gold is so classic...

Thanks Patrick. I was hoping you'd read this and I appreciate the knowledge download - you are a Spector sherpa. So do you think that Chris' bass just had the Ian Hill signature on the back by accident then? Jeff, where did you order this from? Can you shed any light on it?

Correct! The USA 18v circuit will fit in the lower three pot holes of the standard 4-knob routing. You will need to widen the holes some.

Your volume will be in the position normally the blend knob is (with the USA 9v config).

You'll have an open/empty pot hole. Most of the people I know who have done this just install a dummy pot.

The 18v is the overall better sounding circuit to me. It's cleaner, with tons of headroom and it sits amazingly well in the mix. With DC pups it's big. I've been wanting to put the P/J pups in the humbucker housing into my NS-4 just to see what a P/J setup with the 18v would sound like. It'd be really sweet I bet.



Yeah. Chris' bass is proof that that's not true. Now. Here's a conversation I had with PJ... last week actually.

I ordered a USA NS-2 with a Doug Wimbish neck. It's blue/black burst with dual J pups instead of P/J pups. And is it a Doug Wimbish model? NO. It's a NS-2JJ (I like Todd Cooke's name for this) with a Doug Wimbish neck. For it to be a USA Dougie, it'd need to be ultra-amber with all of the same specs as his. And it's not.

So no. Spector will not make a white Ian Hill. Ian's bass is black. But you can certainly special order a white Euro4LX with an Ian Hill neck profile. It just won't have the Ian Hill signature on the headstock.



Yeah. Trust me. Nothing like hearing, "Oh dude... if I had only known you were looking for one of those... I practically gave one away a year ago." LOL. I feel your pain.

Dude, when I read that you were the second guy on it I was screaming "SH!!!!!!!!!!!!!T!!!" If you had snagged it then it would have at least been in the family somewhere and eventually you'd hopefully probably maybe shouldn't you sure go ahead no wait yeah okay I'll sell it I might move it and then I'd get a shot :D:D:bassist::bassist:

But alas... a loss felt by everyone here.

Nope. I remember playing one back in the early nineties. I couldn't get used to not having a headstock and I literally couldn't play the bass. I just locked up. I've always thought the original Steinberger models looked and sounded great, but I couldn't hack it. I will keep an eye out though as I search for my own white whale and if I see anything I'll hit you up ASAP.

Honestly if it wasn't for what that bass represents to me, all of you guys caring so much about me, I would sell you that bass to make your bass dream come true, the way all of you guys made mine come true. Steve you did so much for me to make this happen, maybe when I go for my transplant, I will be gone for like 4-5 months, I am planning on bringing my Woodstock or Kramer NS-2 with, maybe I can send Ian to you for safe keeping until I get home...

I'm working on the black hardware and the 9 volt system, but waiting for the bridge and USA 9 volt to come from Spector, we all know they are on a big back order. Maybe you could have Jeff order you the white Ian Hill since he knows how to get one...

Now...back the our regular programming. :D
