what does everyone like best in their spectors?

Tonepump, Aguilar OBP-2/3, or EMG 2 band/3 band?

I think it would be sad to mangle a euro like that.

Or worse... I won't mention names... but a Spector Artist I've gotten to be good friends with had a USA NS-2 from the Kramer Era and didn't realize it. He thought it was an early Euro model and cut the lower horn out to give him more room to reach the 21st through 24th frets... then was gigging and it got stolen.

Crazy! I was so freaked out when I saw the missing lower horn. And he had picked it up from someone who didn't know what it was, so he paid next to nothing for it. And figured it was just an everyday average Euro. But he loved the sound so he butchered it. LOL.

When I told him what it was, I seriously thought he was going to hurt himself. And then he was really upset.

I hope whoever got the bass from Guitar Center yesteday realizes what they have. It's sad to see these beautiful old Brooklyn and Kramer basses fall into the hands of people who don't realize what they are and they treat them like a pawn-shop throw-away.

Sorry to interrupt the top-secret contact talk, but I couldn't resist.....

The seat was spectacular.

There was an early sighting in the lobby pre-show.

And a very relaxed (and lengthy) chat/picture/autograph session after the show.

On stage - 14 electric basses, 4 upright basses, 4 horns, 2 keyboards, 2 drumkits, 1 adorable, hot singerbabe, Mr. Wooten himself, and absolutely zero guitars.

Now...back the our regular programming.

That's so awesome! I've missed Vic the last few times he's been around my area
I'm definitely making the next one after hearing so many great reviews from so many people.

My overall fave is the USA 18-volt circuit, but of the three you listed, I like the EMG 2-band. The one in my CRFM is very articulate & versatile, with a sweet & grindy tone when cranked up.

i guess my main question should, how noticeable of a difference in tone is there from swapping out the tonepump?

I haven't spent much time with the Aguilar preamps, but there is a quite a difference between the EMG & the Tonepump.
To my ears, the Tonepump sounds like a cross between the USA 9-volt & 18-volt preamps - it has a beefier bottom end, more punch & weight to the tone, and sounds a touch smoother, while the EMG has more mids, a slightly sweeter high-end and a more articulate tone.

would you say the tonepump provides a better tone for bottom end over the emg? i have the tonepump and i like it alot, but im one to experiment with uncharted territory for my tone searches.

I have only used the Tonepump nd EMG 2 band preamps of the ones you listed.... Tone Pump everyday over the EMG 2 band... I actully disagree with the EMG having more mids from Superdick (sorry) It is all in how you use the tonepump. Drop the treble and bass and you have a nice mid bump. The EMG does have a nice smoother high end, the TP can get brutal with that treble knob, and often has too much bass if use improperly..

To my ears the EMG circuit was too sterile for my liking and the TP has a much warmer/fuller tone overall

this is the answer im pretty much looking for. i want to keep the warm tone. i'd like to know if the aguilar is warmer than the tonepump, hopefully someone one in the spector club has tried it before.

the TP has "more" low end IMHO, but better tone is too subjective... If you are looking for a "cleaner" bottom end I would shoot for the BQC or Aggi OBP-3? Both have yielded great fans... the EMG more so for spector since AW uses it in his signature bass.

The sound and the neck, many of them are heavy as hell but it's hard to match the sound of a Spector and I really like the Tonepump myself.
And then there is the people @ Spector, excellent customer service has been my experience, they seem to care about the people who support their effort which is a vanishing attribute.
