SPECTOR® Club - Part 47

So I finally got a chance to try my first set of Circle K's - a 136 balanced set on the Webster.

I think I may be a believer. I've been used to traditional tension for so long that it was weird at first. But it just feels so much easier to play both from a picking and fretting standpoint. I played through some of our original stuff as well as some DT, Rush and Queensryche on Jammit and places were I'd typically feel a little picking fatigue did not happen. Normally I have to push myself a bit to get through 6:00 but it played like butter now.

And let's not forget about the sound - seems like the perfect cross between nickel and steel. Nice fully body but still bright with bite, And they feel smoother than pretty much every steel I've played.

I have two other sets I still need to try on my 5LX for A standard and the 435 I got from bassgiant for drop C. But unless something goes worse with those, I think all my Spectors are going to wear these. Just waiting for the next coupon code to stock up.

Nice wiring job, neat and tidy. I want to do this with my haz copy. Where is a good source for pots?

I switched out my input jack a few days ago. Gold swicthcraft stereo plug.

I had to splice some wires so it could all run off the 9v, added a gold output jack, and straightened up some of the stock wiring. Still not 100% done, just waiting on some screws for the rear control plate and a Gold bridge.

Thanks! I didn't realize until I saw the pic but that one crooked pot is now back to being horizontal like it should. Just showing my anal retentive tendencies lol.

I got the 25K pots from guitarelectronics.com but any long shaft 25K pots will do. The stock pots are solid shaft, the replacements I got are split shaft so the knobs would fit. I had to drill out the other two knobs to fit the solid shaft for the tone controls.

The bass sounds great but a forum member gave me a heads up that there are two resistors on the copy that's not on the actual HAZ. I will actually have a real HAZ in my hands tomorrow, so I'm going to compare and see what's what.

I think what Lee said here and what Patrick had to say earlier pretty much covers what you and I talked about yesterday.

The Ian Hill does mean a lot because of the fact that all of us got together and did it to get your spirits up and prepared for the road ahead (not to mention Jeff's generosity in helping make the whole thing happen to begin with). That road is a little longer now, and another instrument that makes the sound in your head come out of your hands (which is what EVERY BASSIST ON THE PLANET HOPES TO FIND ONE DAY) has come along and financial circumstances due to health stuff (which me, Patrick, John, Sam, and so, very, very many guys here in the TB Spector Club family very much understand and hate right along with you) dictate that only one can stay with you for the next period in your personal journey towards getting better. I say that's the bass you keep. A white Euro will come around again, and there probably isn't a guy on here who wouldn't think of you first of he was going to sell it on down the line.

Saying "it's the thought that counts" can sometimes seem a very trivial statement, but I think in this instance, where we all came together to help with your fight, it could never be a truer statement. If it had been a Squier (NO OFFENSE INTENDED TO SQUIER OR FENDER PLAYERS, OKAY?) and you had always wanted one and we got you one, then you got a 1965 Strat and that TRULY matched the tone in your head, I think we'd all expect you to get rid of the Squier and go for the Fender because WE WANT YOU TO THINK OF US AS YOUR TB FAMILY when you play the bass you love the most. If turning the white Ian Hill into that NS-2 accomplishes that, then I feel like nothing has really changed and we still helped you get a dream bass. That was the goal to start with. If the actual shape the bass takes along the way has to change a little, so be it. The important thing is that we got a chance to make part of your bass dreams come true and therefore give you added strength and fortitude and joy in the trying times to come. So please don't worry about it. And like Lee said - we got it all on tape so we have it for posterity - nothing will ever beat that video, Chris. If this is what you need to do, I support you.

Unless you trade it for a fu#$king U-Bass. That happens, I take a red-eye to Vegas, destroy it in front of you John Belushi in Samurai Delicatessen style (or maybe like in Animal House and smash it to death on a staircase) and then fly back home. And knowing this crowd, I won't be alone. :D

I have fallen in love with this Kramer NS-2 and I would love to be able to keep it, but something has to go.

So I talked with Jeff and Steve to make sure they were okay with it but wanted to ask all of you also and get your blessing to put up the Ian Hill for sale (I have the perfect person in mind) so that I can keep the Kramer. If I cancel the Hazlab and black bridge I have ordered for it along with the shipping to my guy to do the work, black tuners and money to have the work done, it's about even.

Jeff said he wants me to have the better bass, the one I want and to him he knows it would be the Kramer. The big thing is I don't want anyone to think I am not appreciative because I am more appreciative than you will ever know. Here's the thing: one person who did this for me has the smallest problem with it, I will not do it and put the Kramer up intead. If you have any problem with it at all, please just IM me, no reason needed, and I will not sell it.

Sorry for the events of late. We're all pulling for you brother. I'm not on here as much lately so I miss a lot of things. Keep the bass that talks to you and fight like hell to get better. Just know that you have inspired many people here and I pray for you to feel better soon.

A thought....once you are sure you will be selling the Ian Hill.....and it sounds like you are. I think it would be cool to offer it up to the club before it hits the main classifieds. I say this because of one main reason. I believe that bass to have loads of good karma associated with it. I think that maybe even one of the members that contributed funds towards that bass might be quick to buy it given the history behind it. Maybe I'm being silly, however I think someone might want that to "stay in the family" so to speak. What do you think? Obviously, you probably would do that.......but I'm just checking in.

On another note my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for all the hardships and personal struggles you are dealing with. You are strong, you have a good heart......keep fighting! You can do it! (hear this in the cajun accent from Adam Sandler's The Waterboy)
