Yes it does. And it really is just about as much (I got mine for less just waiting and watching Amazon) or less than the 500. I find that between the master and pre control for each channel, I can create enough "push-and-pull" so it sounds like a smaller solid state head working harder, or I can open it up and make a crater.

To the guys that have the HAZ pres; Where do you keep your tone knobs set at?

Mine are mostly in the center detents. I'll roll back the treble a tad for less bite and roll up and out of the treble detent for Eddie Jackson. To me, the magic is in the treble knob....especially on these Kramers. Holy cow.

Hey Chris,

As the caretaker of a '73 SVT I certainly hope you do not have to sell it. To answer your question, yes, I think the MB800 is that good but for your scenario I would honestly think about trying the diminutive MB200 and here's why:

1. It is ridiculously loud at 200W (4 ohms)
2. Headphone jack
3. Aux in feature
4. Price (you can get them on here for $150-175)
5. Good ole GK tone

I don't know if you've played GK or not but being an SVT guy it will sound a tad different. I like both tones (GK and Ampeg) each for what they are. Also, being a SS amp you can just use it as a headphone monitor and it doesn't need to be hooked up to a speaker. I realize you probably know all this but just saying in case you don't.

The MB500/800 doesn't have an aux in for playing along with tunes but it does have a headphone jack.

You want me to send you my MB200 to see if you like it?

ps. You may also want to check out TC's BH250. That looks like a fun micro with the toneprint feature. That'd be fun to mess around zapping those toneprints from your phone to the head.

My Ampeg B-15T Portaflex Fliptop is rated at 100Watts and I don't dare turn it past 4 but mostly run it at 2 1/2 - 3, in my house. Plenty of rich, warm, deep tone. Even gets gritty when you want. I've played it in venues from 100-500, cuts thru the mix just fine. 73 lbs. You can switch out the amp for larger if you need to. My 2 cents FWIW

My Ampeg B-15T Portaflex Fliptop is rated at 100Watts and I don't dare turn it past 4 but mostly run it at 2 1/2 - 3, in my house. Plenty of rich, warm, deep tone. Even gets gritty when you want. I've played it in venues from 100-500, cuts thru the mix just fine. 73 lbs. You can switch out the amp for larger if you need to. My 2 cents FWIW

Not quite sure what you're getting at ice? All I was letting Chris know is that it is a pretty loud micro at 200W. He's used to playing an SVT through an 810.

Should be just fine.

With solid state amps, I like them to be rated a good bit more than the cabs. Headroom sounds good to me.

no. i was actually going on alice in chains songs and trying to grab a little mike starr tone. better with the gk than the ampeg believe or not. actually on the ampeg, i didnt even get that far. the volume was so crappy and the tone was to blah, i turned it off and went back to the gk.

That Ampeg head isn't a real popular one as for Ampegs go.

I run the bass @ 2 o'clock usually cut the treble a little 11o'clock as Lee does and boost for some agressive stuff. I slightly favor the P. Lee is right the Treble is where it's at. To me the bass has a really organic tone that kills. I have to say this is the first bass that I can run the amp eq flat with no Sansamp and have my tone at my finger tips.

He said he also wants to use it with his band afterwards. Admittedly I'm a GK guy, but I would have to think that coming from a massive ampeg rig like chris has to the smaller ampeg amps, wouldn't add up to his tonal requirements.

I think switching brands would allow him to refind his tone... a mb200 and 210 cab would IMHO be a nice transition.

I am by no means an amp expert.

But I am very happy with my GK MB200 and 2X10 cab.

Crown XTI2000 with the Jule Monique pre. The DSP on the Crown is awsome for adding a limiter, and low pass filter if needed. I am trying to find settings others are using with this power amp to try out.

Personally I like to have more than the rated watts than less.

Similar here. I am running a 2000W Crest ProLite 2.0 bridged (if required) into a Monique. Best tone I have ever heard.

Sorry, I am sold on Spectors, but fanatical about the Jule Monique. Just a killer Pre.

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on an NS-2, and while I'm leaning towards "new", I'm torn between a Woodstock or a Kramer-era.

I keep treble at center detent and roll low at about 25% up.

I have to agree with you....I do prefer solid state amps with active preamps than tube heads with active preamps....but some guys love carrying around heavy heads and changing tubes....
