which poses my question... ive been eyeballing and really wanting to pull the trigger on a SE white euro (with chrome hardware) but for that cash cant an older NS2 be had?
It could, and it just depends on what your looking for really. The white LE models are nice for sure. A Kramer or Brooklyn or even a used Forte with a 9v can be found around that price range. I've seen the LE's go around 19 to 2100. I almost bought one but opted for a white Brooklyn or two
. I think it comes down to the tone your searching for and how much you want to search. Some like the TP, some the newer 9v's, some the older circuits.
non trim tonepump a tend to hurt. solid wings tend to help. having Jeff consign your bass also tends to help! lol
But the ns-4...........is it still king of the roost? That's my question........
The NS-2 has the potential to rule the roost someday, but for now, the NS-4 remains the King.

I applied the third coat of tung-oil this afternoon. The wood is really soaking up the tung-oil so I will probably end up with 10-12 coats to get the desired finish/sheen. The more I look at it the more I really dig the color that I ended up with.
This pic of it with the oil freshly applied before wiping it down should give an idea of what it will look like finished with less gloss though of course.

it reminds me of the sienna finish that modulus does. which is a good thing... love it! in fact, I think I just discovered the color of the NS2 I'll probably never order!

[/QUOTE]What can I say? We're a 3-piece band playing hard & heavy metal with a healthy dose of doom & gloom, and nothing fills out that bottom end like the NS-4, especially for the drop-D and drop-C tunings where the bass is competing with my Taurus for space in the lower registers.
The NS-2 is a very close second, and it actually plays a little better than my NS-4.
The NS-2 will be my #1 bass for all of our standard E-tuning material, and I'll bet once my ears adjust to it's different but equally bad-ass tone, it may just be crowned the new King.
The coolest thing is actually having both models at my disposal now.

Thank you...Usually you only need to wait 24 hours in between coats if above 70 degrees in environment but it has been cold here in Calif for the last few days so I waited a couple of days since last coat. Suppose to be warm this weekend and through next week so I'll go back to 24 hours in between coats. I think I'll probably be done in less than two weeks with the tung-oil

It's snowing like a be-yotch here in Denver & I have the day off, so there has been a whole bunch of introspection & Spector jamming happening this morning.
As I sit relaxing & staring at my 4 Spectors, I'm feeling very humble, grateful & thankful to be where I am right now...

I keep wondering if I will buy a NS-2 or not. With me being a Five string player...Nothing like an awesome snowstorm to keep you inside and a great reason for bonding time with your Spector(s).
Here in Columbus, Ohio we are expecting a heavy snowfall during the evening, 12-14". And I did travel with my Coda 5XL and my travel bass rig, Acoustic B20. So tomorrow after I go grazing thru the local GC & SamAsh stores, I'll be jamming away on the Coda.

Pls forgive if not)Some years ago maybe 6-8yrs ago,I had a serious collection of spectors both US NS2s,NS2as,custom euros etc..I had a family member that had bought me a spector that was very dear to my heart. It was a solid purple,I mean "Barney" lavender purple NS2A. It was older. Had factory gold hardware with a "badass" bridge,EMGs,Haz-Lab,dot inlays,brass nut,neckthrouhgh-the key is its color again being that of "Barney the Dinasour". The only one I have ever seen. Im now 47 yrs old. My Dad bought the bass for me as a B-Day gift. I had to sell the bass some yrs later to help bury my family member. I have looked everywhere. PLEASE-this bass means the world. Does anyone know what is causing the discoloration on the E-string tuner ear? It doesn't appear to be rust and does not seem to want to clean off.
I need the truss adjusted, but its the ancient type with a + head instead of a hex!
Does anyone know what tool I need to do this?
A screwdriver will probably just strip it out and ruin it!
(I love the guys at Noll, I go there for custom work, but I prefer to do all my own setups since I've done them as long as I've been playing and it saves me the $$$)
Does anyone know if plastic expands/contracts with age? The pickguard seems like it no longer is fitting the bass properly, and I might have to shave down some areas of it to keep it from rippling.

The discoloration on the E string tuner looks like an epoxy. Maybe the tuner cracked from a bad bump or whatever and instead of replacing it they decided to epoxy it. That's not the color of plastic discoloration from sun or high acid human sweat. It'd be either clear or dull black.

When I play in my three piece band I NEED the WIDE RANGE AND LOW to cover the holes, especially when the guitarist drops out for a lead. In my band with TWO GUITARDS, I need the p/j to cut through the wall of distortion. Makes sense.........
In my mind, the basses cover two differrent settings. The p/j and USA9V , for me, don't cover enough frequency in my little trio.
So I had actually emailed Spector for identification and was pleasantly surprised to get a quick response from PJ Rubal indicating it was likely a Q5 Pro from about 9 years ago. (I could see it wasn't a Legend due to the body)
Other than the flat body, which now seems to be the Legend standard, they look identical, but the early Legend had a J pup also.
The bass has been sitting next to my workspace (laptop at the coffee table) where I sometimes fall asleep...... why its currently strapped on at 5am. Deciding on a setup and strings.
So, I decided that at a purchase price of $395, it wasn't too out of line and that the seller (who had it tuned like a B guitar - BEADF#D#) likely was unaware... with an otherwise spotless record.
Its not a bad $400 bass to have around....in fact I see a gig soon for it.
This is my first 5er, first Spector. Have a Fender Precision Lyte, which is a jazz necked active 4, slightly smaller body.... huge sound, great action, light. Kid (17 year old) has an assortment I borrow from, BEAD Cort, Ibanez SRX275 & SR500, and I just sold a Hagstrom HB 8 that funded this purchase.
The neck is straight and fast, narrow, 35"..... which became the gauntlet of my search and lead me to Spector. Had only seen them played by Styx in show last year, but nobody plays them locally that I've noticed.
Great color....need some flash for my band. So far as I've noticed, great open sound........ I'm kind of a piano string guy..... amplified, well, we've got some wall repairs to schedule.
But the Spector GAS has begun.
