Ya'll win. Congratz. My beloved Fender American Jazz Deluxe is now officially my "specific uses" bass. My newly acquired Spector has become my primary bass.

Don't tell any Fender folks I said this......and you'll swear this is an exageration, but it's not. I've been searching for months to find the tone I was looking for. I have a Boss GT-10B pedal board, and I've been running my Fender AMDLX through it trying setting after setting to try to get the tone I wanted. No matter I did, I just couldn't get the bite out of it. The Fender is one SMOOTH bass, I will give you that, but I couldn't get it to growl.

Well... I plugged the Spector in straight to my Carvin amp. Done. Not freaking kinding... Done. That's the tone. Right there. No amp modeller needed. Compression and a tuner and I'm done. I couldn't believe it.

So when I asked why "The Freak" Spector had been sold around TB so many times, I was told because people have GAS for bigger better Spectors... Well, don't expect to see this guy for sale ever again. Sorry everyone else!

I also know that feeling, that is why I am in the process of starting another project. Always have multiple projects so that at least one might get completed.

I am in the process of installing a 9v in my matte black Euro this week. Hope is sounds good. I just have to pick up a reamer some time this week.

The term "crap" is a relative term, believe it or not. While there's surely no doubt that the Korean Rex4 and 5 are great basses, they are however crap when compared to a top of the line USA model.
They're both great, but I highly doubt any of you would take a pro or performer NS over a USA NS. Am I wrong?

I would love to pick one up with the BEM board. I am afraid that if I was to order one that the neck would be too thick for me. I find that the euro necks that I have played are too big. I have heard that a lot of the Woodstock basses have chunky necks. Too many broken fingers and busted knuckles in my younger days.

So I got the Kramer setup up for BEAD today. Cool thing was I didn't have to touch the nut since the slots are very shallow even though the action is super low. So the strings sit nicely in the slots and yet I was able to get the action where I wanted it with some bridge adjustments.

Was going to use the Spector brand steels but it actually looks like the thick part of the winding would come through the post so no go on that. Happened to have a set of Rotosound Drop Zones around so threw those on instead. I'll see if the CK's fit later.

So the sound - pretty impressed. I really like the way the Euro 435 sounds with BEAD but this one definitely has some more fundamental meat to it while also having a less brittle but still bright bite.

It's going to be very interesting to see how this compares to the NS-5XL with 9v and 40P5/40J that I have coming this summer.

Just curious to see how many other of you guys have tried BEAD out on a Euro. I'd love to have to option of a tight low B without the added mass of a 5er. Realistically, I can barely keep my **** together on four strings much less five! :rollno: Feel free to chime in with your experiences, what worked, what didn't work. I'm really curious.

OK, I'm just not Fender-ish shape fan, and if I was I would stick to original, i.e. bought myself vintage 70th jazz-bass. What I mean is when you see (and hear!) NS-2/NS-4 you whant them. The same reason which make me chose Spectors NS but not Warwick Streamers, altough they might be good basses too, I just don't want them. my 2 cents:)

yes you are wrong. :D Many endorsed artists choose to use the Legend (pro) series over the Euro and USA made basses. The most common reason is because of the feel of the bass, not the price.

Probably the most notable is Johnny April of Staind... he has the nicer models in his stead and still uses the Legends.

Edit: I know what you are saying, but I'm feisty today.

Agreed. I wouldn't really use the term 'crap', wen comparing the pro series to the USA models, maybe just simply 'not as nice'. Although it does take a little longer to type, haha

Very cool - I'm glad the "saturation point" hasn't taken too long. I've been living with these songs for so long that it's hard to remember what it's like to hear them for the first time.
