Thanks for posting that link Donny. Darkglass said on their site that a video was coming soon so I kept checking but I am glad they finally posted it. Now I need to change my shorts

I like the way his bass sounds both ways. I can definitely see how people would prefer his tone without the pedal but let's remember, he is playing with Cannibal Corpse, LOL. Interesting to see that he switched to Aguilar amps now since I know he used SWR but I heard they are done supposedly.

Here's a little comparo between my Spector's. It's my Forte, Buckeye NS 2 and Ultra Amber NS 2. I used Omer's awesome riff with drums and guitar backing. I used this to hear the differences in the mix. About the basses:

Forte - solid flamed maple with USA9V, Spector nickels 45-105
Buckeye - Buckeye burl top, walnut back, ebony board, Spector nickels 45-105
Ultra Amber - figured maple, maple board, Spector nickels 45-105

DISCLAIMER: I am be no means "One Take Sam"! Timing is bad in spots and levels are off a tad. What can I say, I'm a hack. I'll post which is which in a couple of hours.

Thanks to the joys of Reaper replacing my buggy ProTools, there are clips of all 3, be sure to read descriptions of the tracks, as I have modded each bass a little.

With the Dimarzios, the NS-2A gets the growliest, while the NS20005 with the EMG pre wired at 18v gets the most articulate, and the best B-string I have ever played (possibly also due to 35" scale)

My pick playing's a bit rough in these clips, mostly due to the riffs not being written to be played with a pick so I wasn't used to it, but they covered a lot of range so I used them.

I get the feeling he doesn't really care what amp he uses. FOH is all from the board before the amp.

Thanks! The SGD Neo3's kinda get a passive P-bass split-pickup sound, so 2 of them in neck and bridge with the Korean copy of the USA9V pre get a really nice fat tone with some of that spector growl.

Kind of a more analog version of the USA9V and EMG-35P pickups (EMG P-bass pickups in a soapbar shaped housing)

me too, but I also am a huge supporter of "what sounds good in the mix" In fact, my live tone can sound harsh by itself, but in the mix..... it slays!

I agree totally with that, if its sounds great at home it usually doesn't sound great in a live mix. That's where I love the Booklyn's and Kreamer-era's so much they give you the cut with that treble know without getting clanky live. Surprised that he picked Aguilar, but with his style I could see where he wouldn't need a lot of bottom end. Guess that's why the FOH makes up for it if he needs it.

Lee, great clip and all three are almost identical to me also. I thought the BEM would be a little brighter as some where that I have played in the past.

Thanks guys. The order is actually the order listed. Forte first, Buckeye then Amber. Live it sounds a tad brighter but just a tad. They all sound like NS 2's and that is a GOOD thing.

that ns2k4 sounds good man. the 2a and k4 have the most growl and the k5 is very 18v sounding good clips

Yeah, I admit, I know zero about live sound but did think to myself "where does that amp come into this whole thing?" Does that mean he doesn't have the thing on at all or is he probably just using it for sound on the stage? Sorry for the dumb questions but I am just a bedroom bass player pretty much.

I guess he will EQ through the head once he gets to tryout the sounds more but it seems like it was being bypassed. I have to say though, that Aguilar rig is really cool looking though.

for me personally, my stage rig is all personal monitor and to feel some air move. My tone is pure bass into pedal board.... I usually send a DI signal to FOH BEFORE my amp. This includes some EQ from my pedal board, but the character of my amp is purely for stage.

That being said, about 20% of the venues I play will mic my cab. I don't hear much difference when I go out in the room during soundcheck, but I've tried really hard to get it that way.
