I actually played a MK Signature last night at Guitar Center. It did seem a bit heavy. My guess 10.5 or 11lbs.
Just an FYI, my Rebop 5 DLX was about 9 or 9.5 lbs.
Which MK5 was it? There's a Legend series & then theres the MK5-USA neckthru or bolt on. Same electronics, but different breeds of bass. I wasn't impressed with the Legend I played. Didn't feel very different from the Legend 5

Congrats on a beautiful bass. You're gonna love it once its in your hands. Trust those of us with this body style, Spector got it right on the strap pin locations. The bass balances best with the stock setup, no need to install a strap pin on the upper horn (as the previous owner of my bass did).
I second that notion. I also tried that additional pin and now I'm gonna have to remove & fill it, because the way it comes is by far the best location for balance. You may want to invest in a 3" strap for it depending on how heavy s/he is. I noticed a 2-3# difference in the 2 Xs I got to hold when I bought mine. YMMV
It was the Legend version. Coincidentally, its the first Spector I ever played, about a year ago. I thought is was so nice I started GASing for a Spector and bought my Rebop online while raging through a 103 degree fever.
The interesting thing, now that I have played so many more Spectors, I was not nearly as impressed by it. It was awesome at the time, though!
Some time ago I got a beautiful Euro from Jeffplaysbass. Solid maple wings, solid brass bridge(the non shiny one). The wings are beautiful and I want to go with a matte finish. Ever since I got my Forte, I've become a fan of matte finishes. Here it is in progress.

May I ask how you're doing this & what you're using? I'm going to be stripping my P-bass down and, if things go well, my ReBop. I'm trying to gather as much information as I can, so I do it right the first time.
Man, if anyone has the new Rex Brown book, take a look at page 103. There is a huge advertisement for Spector which is really cool to see.

I just went for the paper. I had to run out and take my daughter to her class and there is a Barnes and Noble right there so I just went in and bought it. Next time, I will just pre order it though since Amazon was only charging like $16 but I wound up spending $26 for the thing in the actual store. You wonder why these places are hurting.
Yeah, I'm gonna go for the Kindle version, though I would rather have the hard copy.

I love Eddie Jackson's tone on Operation:Mindcrime. One of, if not THE reason I have wanted a Spector for 20+ years. Also, Early Skid Row sounded great.
I plan on doing the stripping myself.
I have both. They're definitely different animals. The ReBop is lighter & louder...more boomy. The NS-2000/5 was warmer & cleaner.
I prefer the ReBop
