Yep - he posted back in Part 54, at least. Buckeye NS5XL and a Forte5 already in the stable - 'ours' looks like it could be his twin, but for the OBP-3 & stack knobs. I'll let him introduce himself in a week or so after the deal is done.

Michael - I know you special ordered this one....from the Tulsa store, IIRC. I may PM you to ask about the process, as mine will be the first one I've ordered. BTW, Karen literally cried when I told her a deal was in hand. She loves the Forte most out of the entire stable - and I could never argue about the tone. Just the 16.65 spacing :)

Thinking about going with a EMG J + MM config, with the OPB-3 and a coil tap on the MM, if it's feasible. In a dark Buckeye Burl, but that will mean (Black?) Walnut wings instead of Mahogany, which I think will make for a warmer / darker (& heavier?) bass. Still considering Birdseye vs Pau Ferro, but leaning toward the Pau Ferro.

Opinions on this config welcome from all, especially anyone who's done a J + MM !

Ugh - here I thought this Hipshot detuner install was going to be easy - yeah right.

So I picked up a black M4 extender for the Webster since it's the Schaller version. I know about older Schallers having the mount screw hole opposite of the tuning key but I figured the extenders are being made to fit the newer Schallers which have the mounting hole at '3 o'clock' if the tuning key is 12 o'clock. Nope. The hole on the plate of the detuner seems to be where you'd expect a pilot hole for the original style Schallers.

There's no way I'm drilling the headstock for this so I guess I'm stuck. The only other Euro I have with black hardware has the same tuners as the Webster.

So if anyone here wants to buy an unused black M4 Bass Xtender just let me know.

EDIT: Also a question seems like the Gotoh B7 has the screw mount in the correct spot. Has anyone tried one on a Euro?

Although my recently purchased M4 Hipshot has the 9 o'clock hole (my Schallers are 6 o'clock), it wasn't an issue since the previous owner had already drilled it for one previously.
However, I do remember someone saying they thought Hipshot offered them with the hole at 6 o'clock also under some special designation. Have you tried contacting Hipshot (maybe an exchange?)?

Yeah I shot off a note to Hipshot just now to see. I don't see anything on their website that indicates a special version of the M4. It seems like the GB7 would fit but I don't want to take a chance with that.

Are you talking NS-5H2 or NS-5XL? My NS-5H2 has 2 MM pups with the OBP3. I usually run it as 2 MM or split as 2 JJ pups. That being said J/MM is a very usable combo.:bassist:

I had heard before that a Hipshot installation would require drilling a new hole in a Webster. That scared me away from doing it, too, especially after I figured out how to use my PitchFactor to detune my entire bass to any interval.

Brad, you'll be the first to know if I do. I never expected 18v to be cleaner, but it is. It will also get grittier if you open it up a little. It just sounds huge.

yeah I dug up another post where Phat mentioned his bass and there was some info from Sam there about it, so it sounds like the Gotoh's are a no go on the Euro.

So unless Hipshot can offer me a modified version (I'm not drilling the bass), my options are don't use one or get the Gotoh one for my NS-5XL. Really wanted it on the Webster though. :(

Have you considered getting a quote from your friendly neighborhood luthier to install the thing? Once it's on, you can consider it standard equipment, so if you sold it, the Hipshot would go too. I'm not sure if it would leave the original tuner hole exposed, but it would be difficult to see, given the color of the headstock. If the detuner is a big benefit to you, it's totally worth it.

I'm sure I could do the pilot hole myself if need be. And no the original hole would not be exposed, but if the regular tuner were ever put back on, the new hole would be exposed.

Truth is I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the Webster or my Euro 435 once I get my US builds in the summer. So I don't want to modify them in a way that will hurt their resale value since some people might not want a detuner on it.
