Yeah, see the pots actually are stamped Haz. I sent Rosty over here, thanks for helping him out guys, i was pretty sure it was the korean 9v but wasnt %100 sure, still waiting for Sam to chime in on this one he saves pics of everything spector related

Finally got a chance to put up a couple of pics, recent trade with Lippylou, found I'm really comfortable with the smaller neck size, so now when sas hits where do I go ? Any other models with similar necks?

Glad that trade worked out for you.

That Blk Cherry Euro that you purchased from me was "extra beefy" from any other Euros I have owned or played.

The early Euros & NS4CRFMs had much less beefy front to back feeling necks. The nuts width on those were still 1.64 but I have seen a few with slightly smaller 1.56 nuts which would be in between the the std and Wimbish which is a 1.50.

I previously owned one like that and Bassgiant15 recently sold one that had a slightly narrower nut width.

That's good to know, nut width wasn't so bad ,just the beefy neck width, now I can look for more. What about some of the earlier basses?

Man, i've got to start reading this thread regularly again, feel like I've been out of the loop a bit lately.
Here are the bass and drum tracks I recorded with the band yesterday. the band wants to keep the track under wraps a bit, but I figured you guys would appreciate a rhythm section preview
2 channels of bass going on- my euro 4lx into an mxr DI, with the direct out recording one channel, and the parallel out thru a boss bass distortion to the other, with the two blended to taste. This was all recorded in garage band, so it's by no means pro Quality, but we did the best we could. hope you guys can dig it. any feedback on the tone, mix, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Dude compares BQC 18v with TonePump 18v with Dry (no preamp). Nicely done.

To my ear they're more alike than different though I can hear a difference.

I think they are probably very different preamps but the differences are overshadowed by the influence of the Euro 5 LX's construction and the sound of the EMG pickups. You would probably hear a bigger difference in a lesser bass. A Spector will always sound like a Spector.

Very interesting. I just recently modded the BT in my CRFM5 to 18v, and it made a big difference. It sounds less compressed, maybe less dry, and the B is just monstrous.

I actually liked the sound of the 18v tone pump. I wonder how difficult it would be to drop a tone pump in my bass vs. the BT? The tone pump seemed a little dirtier, which I like.

Does this look a bit, um, odd to anyone else? Makes me wonder what is hiding there under that "Deluxe Edition" plate. I've also not run into the back of a headstock that looks like that.

JPSbassist, would it also be possible to wire my older tonepump to 18V and add a bit of grit with that or would it most likely just improve clarity and headroom?

Hm, if I'm not mistaken (based on an ebay listing) it's a Woodstock-era Legend made in Korea, and the asking price of $400 is right in line.

Is that right?

looks like he's asking $300, and yes looks to be a legend.

It has a EMG-HZs with a 3-Band EMG B30 Pre.

(the one on the Spector website shows it in the optional Bubinga top. They also came with Maple Tops like the one in the ad.)

Looks like he has it down to $300 which is a great deal.

Looks like he used a photo program to remove the "Made in Czech Republic" Stamp.

I just found this photo of circuit from a NS-2O.
These also came with Blend Pots.

Wow, the Kramer Forum circuit was close, but some components like the capacitors were different colors, and while the Forum board was blank, the board on that NS-2O has the red "OAK" markings on it, that my circuit also has on it.

ALSO I thought the 9V clip has been replaced on my board, as the Forum circuit has the battery terminal plug mounted directly on the board, whereas my circuit has a free-floating 9V clip like the one in the picture of that NS-2O board, so it seems like you hit the nail on the head Lima, and the circuit I put in my NS20004 came out of an NS-2O!

I feel a little bad now, since I bought this tone circuit on ebay for $15, because noone at the time knew what it was, not even me, but I knew it reminded me of the Spector's I had seen in this club (this was 3 years ago or so before I got my first spector!) so I bought it anyways despite the fact that it was a random unknown preamp for sale.

I just found this photo of circuit from a NS-2O.
These also came with Blend Pots.

My NS-2A's original circuit had volume/blend/bass/treble.

Unless there's a bunch of you with NS-2A models (not the Samick version) that have volume/volume versions... it is my understanding that the volume/volume preference for the imports in an SSD thing.

That the NS-2A and Kramer Haz copies should always be volume/blend.

But again, if you can get Stuart to talk about Kramer (and it is not advised, that wasn't a good time for him and he'd just as soon leave it in the past... he sincerely is a forward thinker and doesn't dwell on the past very much), he'll tell you that after he left Spector lots of strange things happened during Kramer's last days.

The NS-2As with inlays are a good example.

It makes sense that Kramer would use the Haz copy in a lot of things, Spector and non-Spector such as the actual "Kramer" branded basses.

I've seen Kramers from the end days of the company with Spector branded pups like the NS-2A had.

And the stock circuit option for the NS-2O WAS the NS-2A circuit. That's one of the other price breaks in production that allowed Kramer to offer the NS-2O at prices between the NS-2A and the full-blown version of the NS-2.

The NS-2O models were like the Forte... they had one upgrade option, the USA circuit. That was it.

Only about 1/5 of the NS-2O models made had the USA circuit added as an option.

It's a first-gen Legend... what is now called the Legend Classic. It was often married with a Bubinga Top. But some came with figured maple tops.

The circuit is a but of a mystery. That should have a standard 4 pot setup like the current Legends. Someone must have upgraded it.

The set-neck Legend Custom came with a special EMG 3-band circuit made just for Spector. It had a stacked pot so oddly, it may have one of those circuits. It's obviously a bolt-on.

So it's not a Legend Custom.

$300 is a good deal in my opinion. It looks pretty good from the photos.

Also... Jacksonville (or as Lex and Terry called it, "Freakville"). LOL. I used to go down to Jax on occasion for business. I lived in Savannah, GA for 25 years.

I've also spent some time at Mayport and Jax NAS... I've had several good friends who were Navy and I'd go down and party with them, back when I was young and stupid.

Partying with Navy is rough sometimes. The Rangers were more tame, believe it or not.
