Thinking about getting a pair of GK Neo 212's but I can't seem to find any Chicago-area stores that might have one in stock to try. Any of our current and former GK owners have experience running one or two of these?

Looking for a 2 cab setup for my recently acquired MB800 (which definitely is a pocket nuke Lee!).

Hey Spector Owners,

I have a question for you. I am in the market for a Legend 5 in Slate Grey. I have the opportunity score a new one for a good deal. How are these? Do they sound good? What's your take.

I've got a legend classic 5 from around 2010 and I absolutely love it, it's my main bass. It plays very well and I love the punchy sound I get from it. It kind of reminds me of a stingray, but its got it's own voice. The low notes sound good and everything. The electronics aren't super flexible, but I really like the tone with both pickups on full and the pre flat. Changing the pickup balance and slightly boosting the bass or treble can get me a range of useable tones. I just wish the pre wasn't boost only- but for the price, I can't complain because its sound smokes (IMO) a lot of the competition in the price range.

I have some YouTube vids that show the tone, ill have to post some links when I can get to a computer.

While listening to this song I all of a sudden noticed that I'm thinking of how I like the vocals and melody and the song overall which means - the BASS LINE AND TONE is COOL. Because that's what we should really do as musicians - make the song good. Not to stick out with "listen what else can I do with my megaexpensive axe"-type of message, but rather contribute in sound of the team you play with. Well done Lee! Nice piece of music, my respect.

Hey dudes, thanks again for all the feedback on my first studio tune. Here is the second rough edit. This was the Amber/Maple board NS 2. The engineer had me trim a little treble but otherwise it's NS 2 > ADL tube DI > board.

The bass is definitely more buried in this tune. See what you think:

So I take the MM114 out of my Legend 5 and put it in my NS2A last night. Kids are asleep so I can put it to the test at any volume. But I'm so pump up to her it I decide to do a low volume test. Fire it up and although it sounds pretty good I realize only my neck pup is working. Doh!!!! (In my best Homer Simpson voice)

Looks like I'm breaking out the soldering iron again tonight. I know I shouldn't rush when I do stuff like this.....

I ask because I have a car not a truck and I'm not sure I could fit the 412 in the backseat, but I can likely get one of the two 212's in the trunk. Right now my Eden 410 will fit but I can't get a second cab in the car. Plus they're HEAVY.

Advantage, maybe in total dollar cost, and I would imagine in shipping cost. I did let the guy I was taking lessons from borrow the 4x12 for a gig, and it fit fine in his hatchback Ford (Fiesta or Escort , 2 door hatch, little thing) and it was very easy to load/unload with the big grab bar and the casters.

PS - When I sold it, I delivered it in the back seat of a newer Chevy Impala.

Very cool sounding tune, has a nice groove and would sound better if the bass was stronger in the mix or at least up a notch...I like the vocals, the pop in the snare, and the guitars!

I would really have a hard time arguing that this wasn't the best looking trio of Spectors in the club! Never get tired of seeing them!

If anything, it's a complement to Stuart, Jimmy, Jim, John and the rest of the Woodstock/Saugerties crew.

They create amazingly beautiful basses and guitars and honestly, who's to say that any one (or three) are more beautiful than any of the others.

Sam has an amazing triad and then guys like John D. and Omer and Lee and YOU... you all have some beautiful basses.

How about this... because I am a cinematographer/photographer by education and trade; I'll say that mine look so amazing because I have some great equipment to shoot photos of them with.

So perhaps not the best looking trio, but the best photographed trio...

It's cool because I am not a metal or hard-rock guy (on most days) either.

I've actually been learning and toying with a bunch of John Taylor's (Duran Duran) and Mark O'Toole (Frankie Goes to Hollywood) lately. Mainly because John is a finger style bassist and Mark is a hard-core pick user.

Bass lines I love are ones like "Rio" from Duran Duran and "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood... then you add in some Rush "Time Stands Still" and I guess I like bass lines that make you work the fingerboard a lot.

My point is that THIS is why I think Spectors are so great. Sure they are beautiful and comfortable. But its where they sit in the mix that is so awesome to me.

Regardless what genre you embrace... you can really make your bass stand out in the mix with ANY Spector.

So you go Lee! That's some great stuff!

And FWIW: the entire track sounded a little muffled/bassy to me... so the bass got lost a little because everything in the mix sounded pushed down into those frequencies. If that makes sense. I mean the bass was still there... and on a cleaner mix it'd stand out and be perfect.

Interesting - I'll have to look up the dimensions on the 412 and measure my car. I have a late model Sonata but if it can handle the depth of a D410XLT it should probably handle the GK. I just wasn't sure how tall the GK is. I was also thinking about 2 212's in terms of being modular so if on the off chance I only needed a small amp for something I could just take one.

Not a bad idea, I always look at it from the overall cost perspective, that and the fact that I have SUV's at my disposal ( I can barely fit a bass case in my Shelby, let alone a cabinet).

Dont get me wrong at all. I just know what Lee likes and what he has been playing. I like to stretch out into other genres myself. I was trained classically so appreciate all sorts. In my cover band we play everything........from WAR to Sublime, to Stevie Wonder, Prince, Soundgarden, STP, Pearl JAM, AIC, Bill Withers, Little RIver Band, Zeppelin........and the list goes on! I was just happy to see Lee going another way..........it's like when Mike Cooper (fat240) talks to me about Pantera, Down, and other heavy bands, then we start talking about and he plays a classical peice on bass.......

It seems we are not only Spector lovers, but music lovers here!

My guilty pleasure is Bruno Mars......"Locked Outta Heaven" it initially reminds me of Sting.....the vocals and muted bassline........i like it so much I learned the bass and some other parts!

My first Cassette (whats that?) was Men at work Cargo.............lol. There I dated myself...... Vinyl was Foriegner and Black Sabbath.........however was raised on Beatles, Brothers Four, Peter Paul and Mary............look at me now!

Oh yeah, and I was a big fan of John Taylor and early Duran Duran........you can thank my girlfriend at the time........
