Just be careful if you ever need to return something to them.... I was charged a 10% re-stocking fee on a $2200 synthesizer that they claimed had a small scratch on the underside, and I know it was fine when I shipped it back to them.

That sucks. Best I could suggest there would be extensive pics prior to shipment. I am glad to see they inspect their stuff thoroughly before taking it back, rather than just assuming it's OK and putting it back into stock like what appears to have happened with my MF order.
In all fairness, I should say that they eventually made good by me. I pitched a fit to my sales rep., and he knocked off an additional $220 on the Gibson SG bass I ordered several months later. Still, I spent a long time talking to him after the synth fiasco, letting him know exactly what I thought of their customer service practices.
Yeah I would be the last person to claim any place is perfect all the time and it sounds like they could have handled that better.

Yeah I honestly don't really trust any of the major online sellers like MF or Sweetwater...but I usually like to try/buy gear locally...with the exception of custom stuff obviously...
Really? How recent?
Last I spoke with someone at D'Addario was about 4 months ago and they confirmed that they had not done any such thing, as I had heard this rumor for the last couple of years.

I've still got a stockpile myself to use.
Plus, it would really be down to just getting the B strings to go with the supply I already have.
I always order 4 string sets and then order my B and C strings separately as I don't like the guages they put in their 5 or 6 string sets.
I get the XL70 set (.045, .065, .080, .100) and add a .032 C and .125 B.Same here. I usually buy a 40-95 set and add a 120 for the B string.
I would prefer the .120 B, but they haven't had them in the matching XL Super Long nickel.
If they really have extended the winding on the Regular Long Scales, I'll be able to get the .120 now.
That is exactly why I am happy that they are extending the wrapping on them. To me the 125 is just a bit too beefy for me. I actually like the really light strings (32-45-60-80-100) because they are amazingly fast, but find the slightly thicker strings have a better overall tone.
All this is true.
Thicker is better for tone, but I hate playing "tree trunks".
I like the flexability/playability of the thinner guages.
That's why I feel the guages I'm using are a good compromise of tone and playability.
Someone at Bass Strings Online just confirmed that Nickel Plated Steel D'Addario's (AKA: XL's) now have an outer wrap of 37" on the Regular Long Scale sets. For the 35" scale Spector 5 & 6 string player, that is perfect!
I don't know if I had anything to do with it, but this is exactly what I had been lobbying them to do with their Long Scale sets for a couple of years now.

I figure in 20+ years I've gone through 450 sets or more.
I have never had even ONE remotely dead or defective string from them.
NOT ONE!!!
That speaks volumes to their quality control.
