Cool! I've got a 02 Euro 4 that I'm slowly stripping the finish off. Tough work! Are you just sanding yours down? Or something else?

I'm gonna be 50 on Saturday, so most of my experience is in the old days. I played with full time mostly cover bands in clubs and ballrooms from 1981 to 1988. That was 4- 6 nights a week 50 weeks a year. You could make a living (kinda) doing that back then. I'm not sure anyone knows what a ballroom is anymore....and then part time ever since
Any way now I play about once a month, and we get together weekly to rehearse and learn new stuff etc. strictly for fun and string money.

I like the TH 500 for several reasons. It s a warm sounding amp, but can go to really aggressive too. All the controls seem to have an effect on the others so there are a lot of subtle nuances available. It has a thick sound that Christian described as "weight" once when i was discusussing buying it from him. I play it through two GK mbe cabs which are cheap cabs , but it sounds great, is louder than I could ever need for stage volume, and light! My whole stack weighs 64 lbs. I can carry it and my double mono bag in in one trip if I want.

Great input! We are not too different. I'm 57 and made my living as a musician from '80 - '94. Playing the same amount as you now, just for fun.

I'm torn between the Tone Hammer 500 and the Shuttle 9.2. The one wild card here is that I already have the Tone Hammer pedal and wonder how it would sound when added into the mix. Would adding the pedal to the Shuttle give me the best of both worlds? Don't know. I'm running through two TCE cabs (see previous post) that I really like. Would the TH pedal and the TH500 be redundant. Not sure. I'm not in a position to try these out so I need all the info I can get before I order.

Thanks for any more thoughts on this.

I bought these and made my own very cheaply. Made it worth the shipping and bought 3 sets. Just a little soldering and heat shrink. :D

I've been contemplating on buying a used NS-5 WCR...just need to figure out how to raise the cash...

The only thing you're missing with the pedal is the drive control, but I think that's an integral part of the experience. I've never had a GB amp, but my understanding is that theyre a clean transparent sounding amp.

I suppose with the pedal and GB you may have a wider variety of tone available, but if you really like th tone hammer I'd consider trying the TH500 so you can play with the drive. I don't use it for distortion, but you can add in an edge of grit that to my ear, really makes the sound full AND aggressive, giving it that "weight". If you can find a used TH, you could probably recover your full investment if you didn't like it, they dont seem to come up often, but when they do they go pretty fast.

By the way, I'm not an Aguilar salesman- I just really like them that much! :bassist:

I contemplated the th500. It was between that and the gk mb800. I went with the gk for the fact if I ever need 800 watts, I have it :). I got a neo 410 8 ohm cab with it. Phenomenal sound. I don't regret one bit of it. When I need distortion, which is frequently, I use my mxr m80. It all sounds great. But that th500 sounds great from the YouTube videos of it. I just couldn't find one in person to fall in love with. But like I said, the gk mb800 is an awesome head too.

I'm a Genz Benz expert... IF you already have a Tone hammer pedal you can use the 9.2 as JUST a power amp & you now have a 900w Tone hammer bypassing the Genz Benz circuit completely by plugging in the poweramp in on the back OR you can add the tone hammer & genz pre together if you want for that unique combo OR the Genz alone... there you have 3 options as opposed to only 1 with the tone hammer 500 & only 500w

DEFINITELY go with the Genz

This is a logic that keeps coming back to me. I just seem to have more options this way.

I agree with the above about the drive control. I have both the TH pedal and TH 500 and the drive control on the head is such a cool feature. The way you can "cop" that old school, sealed cab tone as you roll it up is really cool. It also rolls of the lows a bit, almost like a poor man's high pass filter.

I don't use the drive either for distortion but rather a way to give the tone a nice "edge" to it. The drive, gain and sweepable mids are a great thing on that head.
