I used to take both 4&5 strings to my gigs. That's when I mainly played 4 but there was that 1-2 songs that just needed that depth of a 5r, so I'd switch back & forth. It was a hassle. I don't have a roady or tech guy on stage ready to swap basses. I had 2 basses set on stands. It was crazy switching between basses fast enough for the next song. Mentally it wasn't tough. I finally came to the conclusion that I can play everything on the 5 string, and it is actually easier than switching back & forth. Plus I came to prefer the 5 string more. :)

Thanks zitch I will look into that set up . I been considering the emg bqc or the aggie obp 3. I got time to decide so it will be a imformed decision when I do it.

The NS-2A's are diamonds in the rough. They were built so very close to the Kramer Spector flagship the NS-2's. The fit and finish is very close, the tone from the Haz clone pre is so very close. These sell anywhere from $300 ( if your lucky) to $900. I had one and if not for the color, I'd still have it. The fingerboard/string action is so super low on these it's crazy. The tone can be dialed in gritty. I wasn't disappointed. Just that color...Cherry burst! :scowl: I don't do cherry burst or amber. Except ultra amber. :D

Yeah. It was a good looking bass... I don't neeeeeeeed one but I think ill go back tomorrow and if they have it I'll make em an offer. We'll see!

I have only played with the EMG pres a few times and they are very nice pres with a lot of different options, but I am a HUGE fan of the OBP3! I find it to be the creme de la creme of on-board pres...it's a very close second to the Spector US 9v which is the holy grail of tone!:D

I originally bought a tonehammer pedal thinking it would give me the aggie sound with all my basses, but I sold it after I had the chance to install an OBP 3 into an old Fender Jazz DLX...I've had the OBP in just about every bass since! :D

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either..both can get some killer tones! :bassist:

You could also find an original haz copy for it, lots of us love that unit. If its a solid bass it would be a good build project but I wouldn't give more than the $300 your thinking about...they go for $500 on average in original condition.

Well that's what I'm looking for is as close as i can get to that tone of the usa pre circuit. I really love the tone on them queensrye videos ( ha no spellcheck for that one). Lol but you know what I'm saying operation mindcrime . I don't believe in love vid . Awesome tone I'm close with my tp and my m9 mesa .

I've had the opportunity to play with all three of these pre's. in fact, the BTC EXB, Zitch mentions was in my Euro at one point. His description is very accurate, and the fat funk is something that pre gives that the others don't IMO. The BQC is nice but takes a little while to dial in the sweet spots. The OBP-3 is just awesome. That's my favorite at this point. But it's in the NS-4H2, which might have something to do with it. This bass with the Aggie is a beast!

I can nail the Queensryche tone with my NS-5 with the Bartolini MM pickup and OBP-3 preamp. If the OBP had a gain control, it would be the perfect pre. Alas, I mainly use Bart pre's these days but I'll keep the OBP in my NS-5MM. As long as all my other basses have gain controls I can match them all up :)
