Sorry but no, I don't. Besides, my tone may not be your tone and I don't want you to write off the Aggie for that reason. Believe me, whatever your tone is you'll get it with the OBP-3.

I used to take both 4&5 strings to my gigs. That's when I mainly played 4 but there was that 1-2 songs that just needed that depth of a 5r, so I'd switch back & forth. It was a hassle. I don't have a roady or tech guy on stage ready to swap basses. I had 2 basses set on stands. It was crazy switching between basses fast enough for the next song. Mentally it wasn't tough. I finally came to the conclusion that I can play everything on the 5 string, and it is actually easier than switching back & forth. Plus I came to prefer the 5 string more.

What I was driving at (sorry I wasn't clearer) was the change in feel and playing going from a wider 5 string neck (35") to a more narrow 4 string neck (34"). I'm afraid I'll make mistakes because I'm thinking I'm playing one note but find I'm playing another because of those differences. I've played only 5er's for 19 years now but hearing you guys rave about the NS2 I've been thinking about picking one up to see what the true Spector experience is all about. For the actual change, I'll have both in stands, with straps and wireless transmitters (one for each) attached, ready to go. I can't justify buying an NS2 if I'm not going to play it when I gig. I guess I'm not a true collector... yet.

I didn't have any trouble playing between the 2 basses. I'd play the Ian Hill for a few songs then switch to the NS-95 for 1 song, then switch Bach to the IH for rest of the set. Both necks were different in thickness of course but didn't bother my playing 1 more/less string. Definately had to stay on top of my game. Lol
I'm the same about the NS-2...I want to try it but...I'm afraid after awhile it'd sit in the case. Don't know...I'd buy a used one if I did try one. That way you could sell it quickly hopefully. But I believe I'm a true 5+ string bassist. Ill just find a older NS-5 with the USA 9V circuit!

That's tempting, but my NS-5XL is coming with the 18v because Todd and I agreed it would best suit my sound. Besides, from what I've been hearing around here, the "true" Spector sound comes from a 4 string, 34" scale bass with the P/J pick ups and the 9v Haz tone circuit. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just think there might be times where I'd like to have that sound.

*** Afterthought *** If just the 9v tone circuit will give that sound then hell, I'll slap one of those puppies in my Euro-5LX in a second as soon as my USA arrives.

This is for a MightyMite Pre but it is the same connections.

If you are using HZ Pickups just disregard the part about the battery from the pickups.

OK, I got the dual battery harness for a simple snap in conversion to 18v on my OBP-3. Now are we SURE this isn't going to hurt the Aggie?

Hahaha! I've been working on the lil lady of the house just to spend half of the cost of a new NS-5XL on a used NS-5XL WCR...and that so far is going like this :scowl: And I'm doing it under the disguise of a retirement gift that I'll always have and remember. I'm not giving up...never give up! Keeping the eye on the prize

As long as its done correctly it will be fine.

They recommend running it at 18Vs

If you go with 18V, you will get a bit more headroom and an additional 6 dB of output."
So there IS a volume difference. 6dB is very noticeable.
I will go with 18v for sure!

Then when you wire it, think of it as being wired as a 9V but you have it modified into 18V.

I can only assume this is the way it's wired as the wires disappear into heat shrink wrap and I can't see (per the picture on Ebay). Seems right though.

I been considering the emg bqc or the aggie obp 3. I got time to decide so it will be a imformed decision when I do it.

From a purely technical standpoint I prefer the OBP-3 to the BQC.

The OBP-3 is designed using BOTH JFET and OpAmp components and offers the attack and clarity of a JFET circuit with the warmth and color of the OpAmp.

It is VERY similar to the USA 18v circuit.

This issue (which pre is better, etc... ) falls under the same category of discussion that the "which bass is better" question presents.

As an individual musician with your own tastes, influences and the tone you want to find/hear in your instrument selections, you really need to try to find as many samples of these two circuits in action as possible and make up your own mind.

Other bassists will have biases and thoughts on this or that, like what I said above about the tech.

But at the end of the day this is YOUR bass we're talking about. YOU will use it to make music for YOU. And therefore ONLY YOU can make the decision which is going to be best for you.

Please always keep that in mind when asking anyone for their recommendations on this or that bass/amp/circuit/pedal, etc... In the end the ONLY opinion that matters is your own.
