I know you're right. I'm a neck-through guy, and a fan of the active DC sound, too. Seeing that MMBop really got the juices flowing, though. I just can't wait for my NS-4 to be ready!
Down the road, if I like the NS-4 that much, and I absolutely have to have a Spector with a MM pickup, I'll figure something out.
It's like going through the Sears catalog a month before Xmas when I was a kid!
Any take on a replacement pre for the TP on eurolx 4 emg pj config. Thinking of changing out the tp on one of my euro's. Play mainly rock, some pop and a little metal . Any insight would be greatly appreciated even if its is staying with the tone pump. And obviously no spector usa tone circuits are readily available to my understanding.

with the m80, man my basses sound so good. especially my ns94. that little bit of distortion just makes the tonepump come alive. i'm giddy with the tone that comes out of that thing. so close to what i want in overall spector tone

I'm always sad to learn about great axes winding up in storage vaults.
When the vintage guitar market was at its peak, a whole bunch of vintage Gibsons & Fenders ended up in the hands of Japanese collectors (who were only interested in the instruments as financial investments), only to be squirreled away in vaults, never to be seen, heard or played again.
The bubble on the vintage market burst, and Les Pauls that had been purchased for close to a million dollars were suddenly worth 1/2 or even 1/4 of what they were purchased for. These blue-chip axes still sit in vaults (unloved & unplayed), while their current owners wait for the market to recover so they can recoup their losses - losses that will most likely never be fully recovered.
Guitars and basses were made to be played & enjoyed by musicians & listeners alike - not to sit slowly decaying in some dark & dusty vault.

However, my question is: what model is it? It's a euro and has the tone pump, but are these real inlays or very good decals? I'm not at all up on my Spector grimoire, so thanks for the help.

I played a gig this week with my Journey tribute band and we got a board CD. The guitarist has it right now, but as soon as I get a copy, I'll upload some sound assuming the performance wasn't too embarassing.
That's exactly what I was thinking about Bartolinis. I guess the musical styles you play dictate the sound preference.
The NS-2A's are diamonds in the rough. They were built so very close to the Kramer Spector flagship the NS-2's. The fit and finish is very close, the tone from the Haz clone pre is so very close. These sell anywhere from $300 ( if your lucky) to $900. I had one and if not for the color, I'd still have it. The fingerboard/string action is so super low on these it's crazy. The tone can be dialed in gritty. I wasn't disappointed. Just that color...Cherry burst! :scowl: I don't do cherry burst or amber. Except ultra amber.
EMG pickups. They look way too new to be from the 80's... heres a shot.
Someone up graded the pickups. The originals were branded "Spector". As in my picture.

I think a stock NS2a is easily worth $500. The fact that that one has new EMGs thats worth another $100 to me (because I don't like the stock pickups or the HAZ copy). If it "sings" in your hands $600 isn't bad. IMHO
I'm flattered! And here they are again...the JJ now has DiMarzio Area J's. May even have a Bart preamp later tonight actually! I've got an extra one and curiosity is getting the best of me...
What a classy pair of basses. I've always liked the quilted maple one.
I'm not the biggest EMG fan either. Would like to change out the ones in my fretless at some point...just trying to find a great sounding passive set that will fit nicely into the current route!
I know my MM 5 banger will have the Bartolini/OBP3 combo in it!

Just got back from a family thing in Pittsburgh, and had to miss Steven Wilson Friday night in Chicago. But I did work in seeing him in Cleveland Thursday! Didn't get any pics, but the show was great as expected. House sound was on the boomy side so the bass definition was kind of masked.
They opened with Luminol which had Beggs playing the Euro 4LX. But after that he played pretty much everything else (except the Stick songs) on his Coda 5 except for the title track from the new record and special encore at the end, Radioactive Toy(!), on which he used his new US bolt-on 5-string fretless that PJ delivered to him earlier on the tour. I was really surprised they played Radioactive Toy since it seems like Wilson really wants to separate this project from Porcupine Tree, but he said technically, the stuff on the first PT record is essentially his solo work anyway, so it's a loophole.
Oh and cool part of the show, during The Watchmaker, both Steven and Nick are playing their matching Codas at the same - doubling each other at different octaves for the mini-bass solo.
Another interesting observation - Beggs started Luminol with a pick, but when it comes back around to the beginning riff at the end of the song, he's using his fingers, so you get to hear it both ways. For his technique, I preferred his finger sound.
They played everything from the new record so big bonus there. Also played the whole Raider II piece as well as four other tracks from Grace For Drowning and a few from Insurgentes. Over 2 hours straight.
Oh and Guthrie Govan is just a monster on guitar. He's a shredder with actual feeling.
Anyone who has a chance should catch this show - some of finest musicianship you will see live.

I put in an EMG BT circuit with an EXB expander in and I love it, huge improvement IMO. Can go from that classic Spector grind to a nice Fat funk machine in the swipe of a dial.
Dude no offense but seriously 200.00 just because the pre is missing, i would say that Neckthrough korean curved body with a sweet skinny neck masterpiece is worth at least $400, spend $100-$150 on a nice pre and you never need to look for another killing machine ever.Wow...someone took the heart and soul(The Haz copy pre) out of this one.
