SPECTOR® Club - Part 59

A little question guys :
I have recently purchased a Spector Euro 4 lx , I am absolutely in love with its tone but it had some intonation issues as well as frett buzz etc.....so I had it set up by a trusted local luthier. The thing is he informed me that the frets of my bass are flat ...not curved ..he said that he was surprised to see such a thing in such an otherwise decent instrument and added this would cause some intonation problems and some other stuff......afterwards I did some reading in the net and there were lots of negative comments acknowledging what he said about the flat frets...so I am a little bit confused and a little disappointed ..

my question ; is this a standard procedure , are all the Spector frets like that ? ...if so why ?

Okay, here she is. My recently bought Euro 4 LX from early 2008. :cool:

As you can see it has some battle scars. This is no big deal. It's probably been used a lot, which I see as a good thing. It's worth playing and made the previous owners other basses stay at home. :smug: And... I intend to play it a lot as well.

Can I have a club number? :)

I have not noticed flat frets as a normal thing on spectors. it's possible that a previous owner had the frets leveled and the tech didn't recrown the frets afterward. your luthier should be able to recrown them if there's still a decent amount of material left. crowning restores the rounded fret shape after the the fret tops are leveled with a fret file.

Gentlemen - Congratulations on your new Spector purchases! :bassist:

We Spector Club Members have quite a bit in common;
We all share enthusiasm for one another's basses, we all know superior tone when we hear it, and we all have uncommonly good taste in basses....:D

Found out yesterday that they were still waiting for more tube quilting to come in so I was still waiting to choose my wood. :(

Then today I get an email from Todd he forwarded from PJ with a pic of some quilted maple that Stuart stashed for a NAMM bass and would I like it for my bass. Called up Todd and talked about it with him and I said yes. (Damn that guy's great to work with!) PJ said that between the bleaching/sanding/prep they do on the wood and the walnut stain those dark spots will be almost gone and just add character.

I am stoked! Here's the pic of the raw wood. It's been wet down to help bring out the grain.

That's awesome!! Congrats on the killer piece of wood!! ...it will be worth the wait...TRUST ME! :D

Todd is the MAN! I feel he has a bit of an inside track with PJ and Stuart to get those special options and select woods that eventually arrive to the end user as a wonderful, playable work of art! :bassist:

I look at the upper/lower horns. The curve of the body and the bridge. I can't explain in words how or why I can identify different models...there are just small differences for each model. The pics are definitely of a Q5. To me the upper horn seems to a bit more "pointy" and have a little less curve than the rest of the models.

I played my first Spector, a used Euro 4 the early 2000's, and have just been to the Spector website and studied the different models ever since. ...It also helps that I've owned several of each! :hiding:

ya I think most of us have owned the gammit of spector models, lol. My bass should be shipping today. :hyper:

Beautiful, Im not usually a fan of blue but that I like !
