Thanks for all the kind words fellas. I'm pretty proud of my Spectors. Funny how I have evolved as a bassist and having the best tools in the world helps .

Agreed. Over the years, I've tried to move away from my innate hoarder instinct and just acquire stuff that I will actually use. (And if I don't, I try to move it before it starts to collect dust.) That said, should powerball come through, I shall commence hovering up Spectors for me (and my club brethren) as soon as the check clears.

LOL I think I told PJ once if I hit any kind of lottery winnings he'll have at least 20K coming in immediately.

I never posted this here but I came back to playing three years ago after a decades-long hiatus. I still had my Tele but got interested in what the deal was in active basses. After joining TB I found the Spector Club. The NS-2JA-R was out then, and the price was right, so I grabbed one. It was a good move. Now I want a Forte4 or an NS-2. But I'm not much of a collector. I put those days behind me years ago. Now I focus on few things but of high quality.

Lee makes a good point - these basses are meant to be played. I have to be careful because I have always been a collector of things since I was kid - toys, CD's, movies, you name it.

It's very difficult to see all these beautiful Spectors and not want them all. When I look at the finishes available on the Spector page for both the Euros and US models, there aren't many I wouldn't want.

I bought the Kramer because I thought I needed a Kramer in my collection, and I wanted to try one personally even though I knew as a 4-string it likely wouldn't fit my needs very well. I'm glad I was able to try and get it in someone's hands who will really enjoy it though. And I learned my lesson (I think) about buying too many basses.

So when the UV 5XL and my 6XL land, I will move several of my Euros. Not because I don't love them, but because they deserve to be played. It'll be tough to do, but if I am investing in these US models, dammit I better play them rather than letting them sit in my closet!

Hey bunk, keep me in mind for a euro or two. I'm sure I could give them the solid playing time they deserve!

Oh I don't think I'd ever come close to Todd.

Right now I'm sitting at 6, with 3 incoming this year, but at least 3 will be sold. My high water mark was 8 when I had the Kramer, it just felt like too much!

No doubt, the first thing I do when I win the lottery is contact all of the cool Spector distributors out there and place an order for a custom build with each of them. Spread the wealth and begin hoarding. LOL

+1 I bought my Powerball ticket this morning (currently at $550 million), and I figure if I won, I'd be on the phone for a full week going over Spector custom-build specs with various dealers.

I've got to admit I'm diggin' on just sitting on the couch with the TV on (yeah, I'm off today ) with the NS4CRFM on my lap just plinkin' and running thru my left and right hand exercises. I like the feel of the neck on this four banger. The test is at rehearsal tomorrow night when I see how many songs I can play without using that low B. I'll be playing this puppy on every one of them.

I have to say...There's just SOMETHING about the Forte model that just has an extra dose of Mojo sauce. When I put the US9V in mine, it just has a ring to it.
I love....LOVE both my NS-2's. But the Forte holds it's own indeed!! Even with the OBP-2 it sounded incredible!
The saying "No frills, all tone" is indeed true!

I'm about an hour and half from there.

I think we all need to do one and post them here. It would actually be interesting and fun to hear everyone's different tone and style on this modern classic. After everyone in the club has done one, the Spector Godfather himself will choose the winner.

Hey Coop, getting closer.

Looking good Ho. He's going to bring mine to Phil on Wed to get him to check out the fret board. So that will take him out another week to June 8th. Best to get any fret work done before he starts the finish though. Here's what he sent today. He wet it down to show the grain. The wings are quite a bit darker than the rock maple. I wonder how it will take the black stain? Could almost do a oil finish on it.

This is 100% true. There was a discussion about this on the theme of playing them live and such a long time ago and I remember that I stated that as well, but felt that I was talking out of my arse seeing as I wasn't gigging or anything...

Now the story has changed and I still hold to that truth.
My basses, are my tools of the trade. My Forte for example (which I've been using extensively as my main bass because th ebands I play in are tuned in B) has a few battle scars. Minor scars because I still do take good care of my gear.
My first ding was heartbreaking indeed...but I got over it, the 2nd gave it "character" and makes it more "Mine" with each story
The most important thing is that I ENJOY them. I even restrung my Spalt NS-2 and had it at a gig with me for backup.
I see nothing wrong with trying to keep your gear in pristine conditions, I strive for that myself, but I don't want to be in fear of anything that may potentially happen to it.

I'm sure during that discussion I mentioned I was hesitant to bring out my NS-5XL. I was even skittish about taking the Webster out at first. But there's just no way I can keep that ultraviolet at home. That and my forthcoming red 6XL will be my main players, and my current blue 5XL will likely get set to a non-standard tuning. I will just never let my basses out of my sight at a gig.

I know they can't stay pristine forever, I just want to avoid stuff like it getting knocked over, which happened to my main player years ago. I wait until the sound guy has cleared the stage after setup to put my spare out on the stand.
