Ok.........Lee listen up.............I played my DC/18V Spector pre Euro LX 4 last night in prep for my big Layne's Chains show this Sunday...........I'm almost thinking I might need a NS-2 at this point. I know I know Lee.........LOL.
I have been playing my new fender jazz deluxe bass alot lately and when I went to my favorite Spector it just seemed to boom, (maybe my ears have changed as to what I like)............my ears have gotten used to a different tone...........so..........I might have to go on the hunt

Which NS 2 do you want me to bring for you on Sunday? Ultra Amber, Blue Kramer or the Forte?

I remember long ago I bought a guitar from some guy on ebay who went to great lengths to explain how he had 100% feedback, packed/inspected everything blah blah blah. What turned up, literally was a hardshell case with a UPS label taped to it. No box, no bubblewrap, no nothing. It's a testament to whatever vendor made that hardshell. But seriously, what a clueless, cheap ass mofo! :scowl:
(And yes, the strat arrived more/less intact, horrific setup not withstanding.)

Another thing you could try is changing the neck pickup with an EMG 35P and see if you like it. That is a bit cheaper than springing for an NS-2 right away and you might be surprised with the results
Any 5 string exclusive guys sell off their 5ers for a couple of 4 bangers? I've been playing my Euro 5 for about a year and a half and I know 100% that this is the bass for me. I've always thought that the US Spectors are quite pricey, but now that I've gotten a taste of my Euro 5, I know that a US build would be worth it. I just couldn't see myself dropping that kind of cash on any other kind of bass at this point in time.
My main question is for the guys that were playing 5s before but switched to 4's. As some of you may know, I recently also picked up a Fender Mark Hoppus signature (4 string) and its a pretty basic bass, but for the standard tuning stuff I wanted it for, its perfect. I really hadn't looked at 4's for years until I came across this bass locally, I had to have it, so I bought it. It's been bringing me lots of 4 string GAS lately, its killing me! I'm seeing SO many nice 4 string Spectors available right now, and so little 5s out there that interest me, I really do need to go custom to get what I want out of a 5 string.
Would I be crazy to sell my Euro 5 and switch to a stable of various 4's (lots of spectors!?) Ive been wanting to pick up a nice 5 string to my specs for a while, but havent found one that I really like and the custom build time is quite long going brand new from spector. I only really drop tuned my Euro 5, never my 4 strings, so I'm assuming just like my 5, with the right strings, setup, etc, a 4 string will sound great in drop A too.
Also, anyone running an Ampeg V4BH for live use? I just picked up a Mesa 400 non plus and am loving the tone. Really digging the tubes and cant see myself going back to solid state amps anytime soon. I'm hardly using the master volume on this 400 at band practice and would really like a nice gritty tone without having to spend too much time researching and trying out different pedals although the darkglass pedals are looking really nice right now.
I'm running a Mesa 412 and play in a punk/hardcore band in venues that always give me PA support. Would looking into these lower wattage V4BH's be worth it? Can I maybe swap out the tubes in my Mesa to get a bit more grit out of them?

I typically play 5er's, and currently that is all I have at the moment, but I have never hesitated to add a couple 4 bangers into the mix!
The US BO's are quite customizable and are a fraction of the cost of a neck-thru! I am MORE than happy with my US BO and plan on ordering another one at some point this year!
My advice, if one speaks to you, give it a try!
It's a shame the bolt-on's are overlooked for some reason. I'll take a US bolt on over a NT any day...and I did. Twice!

I'm in Canada and would really save on customs fees, it might really be worth it to go this route. I was watching a mp nice matte green NS5H2 for a while but it sold, I'll be keeping my eyes open though!
Anyone know what Spector charges for a spare fretless neck? Would be cool to swap necks for a fretted or fretless bass. Thought about doing this with my stingray a while back but it just wasnt for me.

I have not had any issues with switching back and forth. I typically play 5'ers in a live setting, but use both during practices, lessons and recordings.
I have also thought about getting a fretted neck for my NS-5J2, but have decided that I would much rather have a fretted NS-5H2 with a single MM pickup, much like Bongo's but without the Wide string spacing, instead!
I've heard that new/replacement Spector necks can run upwards of $500+

I agree! I was a bit apprehensive at first, but now I'm 110% sold!!! I have at least one more to order in the near future, but not ruling out a owning a few different ones when it's all said and done!
I also have love for the Neck-thru models, but my wallet says otherwise!
