I want to let everyone know that this would be mine had my euro sold quickly. I can honestly say that the ns2 tone had not really grabbed me. I had the pleasure of playing this bass at a gig just a little while ago and it changed my mind. There is something to be said about that in itself. The bass has some beauty marks from being loved and played, however the tone is awesome! I really wish things had fallen in line and my wife had not taken a HARD STANCE with me about more bass acquisitions before we pay for a few other things/bills....

However.....someone can buy my special DC equipped 18 v Spector pre and I will happily take this off Lee's hands......sniffle sniffle....help a brother out!

Edit.....I in NO WAY mean to say Lee wouldn't hold this bass for me, the fact is I didn't ask him to. Lee is a great guy and would even let me pay over a month or two, however, I HATE owing people money as something ALWAYS seems to come up in my life as far as money goes! Lee is a stand up guy! I wouldn't mean to imply anything about Lee in any negative light.

Phat - which pre do you have in your Euro?

My white euro has the non-trim TP, a very thick neck & sandwich body, and it is the least favorite of my four Spectors.
I think upgrading it to a trim TP could improve it quite a bit.
My plum CRFM has the EMG pre, and while it sounds great at home, it tends to sound a bit harsh & brittle in the high end when it has a few hundred watts behind it.
The plan for this one is to upgrade it with a US9V (if & when they ever become available again ), and I believe it has the potential to become my # 1 Spector with that mod. Unplugged, its solid maple body sounds remarkably similar to my US NS-2, and its neck is the slimmest, thinnest & fastest of my four Spectors. If it sounds as good as I hope after the mods, I'll probably give it a sparkle paint job.
Bottom Line - I agree that a Euro or CRFM with the right tweaks has the potential to equal a US model in both tone & playability, and given the different tastes & styles (and amplification & effects preferences, etc.) of us Spector afficianados, many could prefer a Euro over a US model, simply because they do.
IMHO, Donnie's Jade & Grendle's Green Dougie are absolute tone monsters, and in their hands, their basses sound every bit as good as the US models I've heard.

It's now got a trim pot Tone Pump.
I've owned Czechs from every series, and like you, the "sandwiched" LX series are by far my least favorite while the Euro4 and Euro5 basses seem to be head and shoulders above the others.

Just a quick note. I spent all day yesterday in the studio with Rex Brown. Had an amazing day. Rex is a MONSTER... MONSTER bassist and to see him, Vinny Appice, and Mark Zavon work through the fine details of laying down new Kill Devil Hill tracks (in Jeff Pilson's home studio no doubt with Jeff at the helm as engineer and producer), it was something you just honestly should see to understand that these guys are ALL at the top of their game right now...

That aside... Rex tracks with his STOCK... I mean STOCK... white Euro4LX. It's an off-the-shelf sandwich bodied, thicker necked, Tonepump and P/J powered tank that honestly sounds so amzing. As good as any NS-2 I've ever heard save Dave Fowler's white Kramer NS-2. It still sounds better than any other Spector I've personally heard. Rex's Euro4LX comes close. His tone is growly and punchy and amazing.

I can tell you that Rex is a HUGE fan of the Euro4LX just the way it is.

But he'll also admit that there's something that's just "right" about his. That you can pick 10 off the shelf and they may all sound slightly different.

Thus, he says for all the Spectors that have come and gone... his white Euro4LX is his main studio bass and he'll never get rid of it.

IT has "HIS" tone he says. There's some special mojo that one bass has.

So awesome!!! I'm a BIG Rex fan! I've grown to love my Euro4LX more so than any bass now.

I've gone thru new Spector basses/preamps/new amps & cabs and have come complete full circle! Right back to my Euro I bought back from Bunk and my SWR rig. To me it just has "My sound". Guess I've learned...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
