SPECTOR® Club - Part 62

i have a question regarding the pickup placement / spacing of the Euro 4LX TW Bass. Some pictures seem to show a similar placement like the 5-string Euros have, some other pictures show a much wider spacing, where the neck pickup is definitely closer to the neck, and the space between the two pickups is wider.

Can someone explain this? If i order a brand new Euro 4-LX TW, will it have the wide pickup spacing or the narrower one?

The difference has to do with the scale length.
Pickups are placed under certain harmonic points on the string.
When you change the scale length, you change the position of these points.
The Euro4LX-TW is available in both Long Scale (34") and Extra Long Scale (35").

Is there anything i can do about a broken potentiometer? It is the bass pot on my Euro LX-4.

The axis is parted, where you put the knob in place. One of the sides is nearly broken off and very unstable. The knob still works, but it does not turn straight anymore. Forgive my crappy english pls i hope you can still understand what i mean.

I guess it's time to change the pot. I wanted to wait for the 9V circuit, but since that will take some more time i want to fix it for now. Any advices what to buy? It is the older Tonepump without trim pot circuit.

One option would be to upgrade by ordering a new tone pump with the trim pot from Spector. This would include bass and treble pots. You'll just have to connect volumes and jack. At only $100.00, it's a good value too, although I don't know how much cost is associated with shipping out of the country...

You just need a mini 10K ohm potentiometer with a split/knurled shaft. I get most of my electrical parts through Mouser.com these days.

This one should work:

But you may just want to double check what the shaft length and diameter your current pot measures.

thanks guys, always a very helpful crowd here! :)

I visited a very large music store last weekend, and i tested a gazillion basses and some amps/cabs. I was in a mood and situation to spend some money, but i left the store with nothing but the good feeling that no single bass in the store could come close to my Euro LX. Including the six Spectors they had in stock. CS Fenders for 3k+, Foderas, premium EBMM Stuff, all fine and dandy, but no one triggered any urge to buy or even play them for long.

That said, the Orange tube bass head was very nice and had a huge sound.

Just an FYI...
I see BSO carries the Invalid Link Removed.

I've been using one of these for a few weeks now and it's great! Light weight, convenient, and when strapped onto your back it leaves your two hands free to carry other stuff.

Lots of protection. OK it's not a flight case but that's the point. It stays with you. Even on a plane (if they'll let you), or if you but a seat for it it'll take up less room.

Highly recommended!

I'm a big fan of the Mono M80 bag! They are super lightweight and offer protection very similar to a hardshell!

Mono M80's and the iGig G515's are some of the best gig bags on the market IMO!

I have the M80 in single and double too, also great cases. The cool thing about the Vertigo is it's designed for vertical in/out of the bag and it has a new design for holding the neck/headstock in place automatically without having to strap/Velcro it in. Works nice. In a few weeks I'll have the "Tick" bag attachment for lots 'o storage.

I just have to find a place to store the HSC that came with my basses since they're not needed. This way they stay in mint shape.

Just looked at the iGig bags and they look sweet too. A good bag make a big difference over the HSC. IMHO
