The Hipshot ultralights went in as a direct replacement for the Gotoh's or was any routing needed?

The 3/8 ultralight is a direct replacement. I'd be too chicken to actually ream them myself!

I also went with a new set of DR Hi-beams (40-120) and it just sings with piano-like clarity all the way up and down the neck!! I'm usually a D'Addario nickel kinda guy but may be making a permanent switch!

I hear that people really like the hi beams for fretless, I might just have to put a set on mine (which, oddly enough, is my only non Spector, not counting the upright). How would you describe their effect on the tone? Nice and 'mwah-y'?

I don't know the specific differences between Hi-Beams and Sunbeams, but I had Sunbeams on my Carvin fretless and really liked them. Lots of mwah. I'll be putting them on my forthcoming Spector fretless they day I get it.

Trust me when I say that my fretless is EXACTLY what I wanted when I ordered it! It is one of the most amazing sounding and feeling basses I have ever owned!

Ill have to check those out too. I think I need to start experimenting with strings more. D'addarios have served me well, so I think I'll stick with pro steels on my 5 string- but for the fretless and the euro I think I'm gonna start branching out more- good thing I'm following Sam on soundcloud- so many string related clips!

I'm not very good at describing nuances of what I hear, but I can tell you I instantly noticed the clarity of the Hi-beams in comparison to the month old D'Addario Nickels that I had on it before...especially from around the 5th fret on up. I've been messing around with Vic's version of "Isn't She Lovely" and the chords are just perfect! ...and there is mwah for days with this bass...sometimes it can be difficult to tame it!

Sounds like what I'm looking for! I've been playing a lot more fretless in an indie rock project I joined, and I'm really hoping to start coaxing a warmer, bloom-ier sound out of her.

Anybody remember this little....uh...."oversite" I uncovered a couple of years ago? (see thumbnails).
Two SSD era NS6 basses, one green, one red, both labeled.....#20 (#020).
After several emails with PJ, I don't think we ever determined if there were still 26 total (the previous count listed) in the SSD era (meaning there probably wasn't a #19 or #21) or there were actually 27 due to two of them being labelled #20.

If #19 and #21 both surface, I think we can assume 27 was the correct count of these.

The same for my former Forte 4...#036...there's two Forte 4's with this same number...which jnummer has now.

Gave the Bass Drive DI a run to night. It sounds great but the MXR M80 its punchier, When I switched the BDDI off and the MXR on I could feel the difference. Then I decided to run both at the same time. Amazing. We have our first show tomorrow playing with Psychostick and today I booked a show opening for Obituary !

you, sir have a very nice spector. One of, if not my favorite model/era of Spectors. Congrats.

The NS-6C came in... it is very cool. I'll get a better pic sometime. Its heavy and sounds cool. on off switch for each pup and a 3-way toggle that doesn't seem to do anything noticeable. It is notable that the bridge humbucker has been replaced. I'm VERY happy to own this cool guitar.

Any of you try flats on your fretless?

I have not. I want my fretless tone to still have some brightness so I don't flats would do it for me. I may still try a set at some point though. Not Chromes though - too tight for my liking.

I had chromes on my fretless jazz for a while- they sounded nice, but not really 'fretless' enough for me- since I play fretless rarely (although it might end up being my main bass for the current band), I really like being able to have that typical mwah that people associate with a fretless bass. Some basses can really get that sound with flats- I guess mine just isn't one of them, haha.
