Apparently Performers cannot take heavier gauge strings, because the neck starts to come out of the bloody pocket!

I'm probably just going to use larger screws, and hope that works.

You're screw holes in the neck are probably stripped so the higher tension is pulling the neck out of the pocket.

Larger screws would probably work, otherwise it would be best to plug the holes and redrill.

Some guys so you can shove a toothpick in the hole and then put the screw in, but I really only find that acceptable for strap pegs. IMO of course.

Ok, I've been out of the loop awhile. Major move, death in the family, getting nursing school lined up for fall. So all that said, I've been away for a little bit. Now a big question to all the Spector Family . REX4 Korean $500 with case, near mint. Good deal bad deal, pros and cons. I also have an EMG 35P and 35TW in hand that I would throw into it over the HZ's. current line up is a stock ReBop Zebra Bolt on and a legend upgraded to EMGX P/J with BQS. Worth the jump and any experience with it.

$500 with case is a solid deal on a Rex 4, adding the P/TW combo would be a great add for the Rex as well. Use the push/pull tap for the TW and you'll get the best of both worlds, with the 35P. The neck thru and all maple design of the Rex does add some grit and growl that you're not going to get from the Rebop or the Legend, and if you like the EMG preamps (you said you had the BQC in the Legend) I'd recommend running the stock BTS at 18v with the upgrade and you'll have a killer bass. The Tonepump would be another preamp I'd seriously consider as well, (the newer model with the trim pot), to get you as close to the classic Spector sound with that bass. The Rex is a great bass, I have owned and gigged extensively with a Rex 4 and currently own a 5.

The body shape and cutaway doesn't lend itself to high register noodling, but most players (myself, for one) looking at the Rex are probably not looking at buying it to wear chest high in a fusion ensemble.

In my opinion, anyhow.:)




Id say its a good deal. Im trying to gather the cash for that one myself.


Looks like I'm going to try to make a couple moves and go for it. I have never owned a neck through before and this one with maple wings sounds like a great way to get my feet wet with it.

Hey all - finally back in the swing here after getting in from ATL at 1:30 last night. Gotta read through the threads from the last few days and see what I missed.

Hope to have some photos and video up soon from the weekend. We got the whole show on video from the first night which had a great stage and sound. Second night damn card ran out of space LOL. Great response though.

The Webster through the B3K and GK killed as expected. We had what were our two best performances so far on this mini-tour. And as a result, we just got the opening slot on the Saturday of ProgPower XIV in September. Super lucky to get this based on a cancellation. The promoter apparently really likes us. This has got to be the biggest annual event for this type of music in the states, and certainly the most important gig I've ever gotten. Going to be awesome.

Also have a confirmed date for late August in Midvale OH at the Metal Madness fest. Going to be a busy few months between these and our local shows with Earthen Grave and Helloween. But you gotta strike while the iron's hot! :bassist:

Oh and the UV 5XL is ships today. I just checked my butt for a rabbit's foot because I am feeling extremely lucky right now.

Thanks - would love to. Maybe in the spring. Hopefully some more opportunities will arise after the PPXIV appearance.

I turned my studio room into a disaster zone getting ready for the trip, so I have a couple hours of straightening up before I can comfortably check out the Coda. It's all last Thursday Bunk's fault.

I am excited that the double box bass is done with refin, refretted, plecked, flush mount dunlops, new volume pot, and new strings setup for C# standard. It has shipped and will arrive tomorrow (I'm sure I'll pass the UPS guy on the way to work:rollno:). They send a pic just before packing it up.

Thanks Bunk, I am excited to see how the oil finish affected the tone. Special thanks to Ho(Mr.Bassie), he helped out with the nut, pot, and consulted me on the finish. Wish I could have made the trip up to hang, but ran out of time. Once I get my house sold I'm going to make some rounds to see everyone in the region.

This one has special MOJO. It is the best sounding of all my basses and I haven't head a NS-2 sound as good as this one, (not saying it's the best sounding). Next to the basses loaded with the newer 9v you can really pick out the differences in the two. I use and love the newer and older circuits but I really treat them as completly different preamps for different situations. They cover everything without having to use any eternal eq'ing. I guess that's why I didn't take to the TP as much.
