Hey Guys!,
Nope I still haven't come back to the fold :) (Saving my pennies) I do have a question though, for those of you who mod their Euros' and remove the Tonepump pre, why do you do it? What kind of sound are you trying to achieve? What does the Tonepump not do for you? On the Euro's I had I thought the sound was fine. This isn't to spark another Tonepump debate.I was just curious what others are looking for as I see many modded Euro's.

Haha, that sounds badass. I'm really considering what I can move to get something like that as well, but may hold out for the day that they (hopefully) do a P bodied Coda.

Do we know what preamp is going in the EMG loaded P/J Coda's? I'm assuming Aguilar but I think a TP would be cool too.

If Musician's Enemy had that finish when I ordered my 5LX I would have picked that over the black cherry. But then I would have gotten the black cherry later. :bassist:

Thanks guys! I'm stoked about the OBP-2 as I'm running the non trim TP right now and it sounds great but I have to be careful with my pickup volumes and bass/treble boost because the pre overdrives so quickly. I opted for the V/V/T/B config again as I just prefer it to having a mid control.

The stain on the bass I'm actually not 100% sure about. I'd like to think its what would be known as "blue stain" on BassCentral, but that's such a deeper blue, it's really tough to say. Under darker lighting it comes in as a really nice blue with great flaming on the body. Under stage light/flash from a camera it has a bit of a purple tint to it. Either way I'm really happy with the colour and always seem to get compliments when I take it out of the house.

Since the OBP-2 is just bass/treble, did you perhaps mean blend?

Personally I prefer the V/Bl over V/V, but that's just me. :D

For me that Tone pump was WAY too loud. I had to back it off (the trim pot) to 25% to make it manageable. I was new to Spectors and that didn't make any sense to me. (I'm a little more edumacated now :D) Plus I always run the volume(s) on a bass full out. I've found that turning them down also affects the tone. IMHO But as I said before, I'd be more open to trying a Euro4LX now. Wish I knew someone in ABQ with one to borrow. :bassist:

Sorry about that! I opted for the 2VOL B/T over the blend option, yes. I also had the choice to go OBP-3, but that has the 3 band EQ with mid control and I've always liked the straightforward 2Vol B/T on really any bass.

What do you find you get with the blend option? I was asked if I wanted the blend version but just stuck with what I knew. It was mostly impulse buy, I payed for my Agro and the OBP-2 the same time mostly because I figured I'd be back to pick up the OBP anyway.

Worse case senario, if I don't like the OBP I'll just sell it and get the TP tonepump. i'm sure I'll love it though!

Kinda the same for me. It's what I (almost) always had. My only bass with V/V was a Steinberger XM-2. Loved the bass, didn't like the V/V.

I like to kill the volume on my bass between songs as I muck about, and I like to use the volume to fade out the final note of some songs too. Just easier if this is done with one knob.

Also when blending the pups with a bias towards one or the other I prefer a blend knob for this. e.g. On my NS-4CR I prefer the sound of the bass when the P-pup is a little hotter than the J-pup.

Of course this is all just my personal preference. YMMV

He only listed 9v systems for the NS2 basses, we need to ask him what he selected for the Coda build. I think I'm going to work on getting ready to build a Coda P bass and want to run to Tulsa to check Todds version out when it gets there, I will need the correct neck size so that will be the only issue stopping that type of build....it will be cool to pick all of the right stuff to build a one of a kind bass!

My biggest thing is I don't like the fact the tone controls are boost/cut but no center detent. I find it tricky to keep it dialed in just right.

Granted it sounds very good. I have two 435 LX's. i'm putting the US 18v in one for some variety, keeping Tonepump in the other.

My Euro4LX has the Aguilar OBP2. Variety is nice!

I just picked up a SpectorCore Fretless from Stereoplayer here on TB. So far I really love the neck. It's very different from my other basses but very nice. Better than the lower end Spectors I tried at GC. The piezo bridge is really interesting. All the way up with the treble up, it's crazy bright. Combining the tone and Mag/Piezo really allows for a lot of sounds.

I already popped a black Hipshot Extender on it and it's ready to be my main fretless. Cant wait to go to practice next week.

It's really light. The amberburst looks great. I sure wish they made it unlined. ( yes, I admit I'm an unlined snob.. I just like the way it looks ). They don't have any way to make and sell one. Nobody but a bass player will really care anyway. :) And not many come to our gigs.

If you decide to ask for mark witten or I can send u his email. Im wo4kin on another for my blue ns 2000 4. The one thing I like easy to wipe off after a gig and doesnt need to be polished plus it will protect bass underneathe from scratches

Okay so I put a bid in on the white ns2a. Figured it would match the white euro im getting when I get my money in the next week lol.

Thanks guys I like the bass better withbthe graphic and way cheaper than painting.

Also if anyone is interested in getting anred ns 2000 4 lemme know looking to sell mine will do a gooddeal for anyone on here.

Since the Tonepump and Pre Topic came back.

Here is a clip I recorded yesterday:

1-NS-2 #800 w/9V USA Circuit

2-NS4CRFM '94/95 w/9V Czech Made Circuit "haz copy"

(Both of these Bass and Treble set at center detents)

3-Euro4LX w/ TonePump (Trim@40% Bass@40% up & Treble@30% up)

The Czech Made Circuit is scary close to the USA Circuit.
The TonePump with some EQ can get very close also.

Yes, Even after USA Spectors, you can still GAS over Czech Models.

Since I sold my NS-2JJ Redwood to a life long Spector Lover in New Zealand.

I decided to go with a New and Old Czech made models.

Here are quick photos of the new additions to the family.

Very cool Sam, through my laptop speakers the tonepump and Czech made circuit are almost identical.... I like the red/maroon burst on that crfm :)
