Notice any marks on the neck caused by the round wound strings?

My spectorcore fretless has a rosewood fingerboard. I've never seen a rosewood not get lines ground into it with round wounds. Mine does. You can always wait until the wear is too extreme and get it sanded smooth. I've toyed with a thin CA or epoxy coating to reduce the wear. Not the thick glassy finishes, just a thin coat that should at least reduce the wear enough the my kids can worry about it once I'm gone.

Spector through a Tech21 Bass Driver, also very winning. I'm pleased as can be. I'm using the Bass Driver as a pre with the Darkglass B3K. Overdrive Nirvana. Thanks Donny.

Very useful sound comparison; the Czech is 90% percent there and the TP noticeably darker.

Looks like I'll be calling PJ about that 9v Haz circuit after all

The Czech Made Circuit is scary close to the USA Circuit.
The TonePump with some EQ can get very close also.

Yes, Even after USA Spectors, you can still GAS over Czech Models.

Since I sold my NS-2JJ Redwood to a life long Spector Lover in New Zealand.

I decided to go with a New and Old Czech made models.

From personal experience I can concur that this setup is all kinds of awesome

I just picked up a SpectorCore Fretless from Stereoplayer here on TB. So far I really love the neck. It's very different from my other basses but very nice. Better than the lower end Spectors I tried at GC. The piezo bridge is really interesting. All the way up with the treble up, it's crazy bright. Combining the tone and Mag/Piezo really allows for a lot of sounds.

I already popped a black Hipshot Extender on it and it's ready to be my main fretless. Cant wait to go to practice next week.

It's really light. The amberburst looks great. I sure wish they made it unlined. ( yes, I admit I'm an unlined snob.. I just like the way it looks ). They don't have any way to make and sell one. Nobody but a bass player will really care anyway. And not many come to our gigs.

That sounds great, let me know if you decide to modify/coat the neck....

FYI

The reason for the higher price on this one is;
Both the body and neck are Gloss finish.

Bolt-Ons are usually matte finish, so a body and neck Gloss finish has a List price of $999,
Aprox $750 more for the buyer.

We need to have a photo shop expert make us a mock up of a black Coda with the split P and a Pau Ferro neck (4 string with a 1.625" width would be cool for me), where has Patrick been???? lol

Slammed with a bunch of new/different stuff.

Obviously the Chris Kael thing hit this week.

And I'm working on tone-circuit/knob diagrams for every Spector model.

Someone mentioned something about fretless basses and marks ground into the fingerboards from roundwounds...

For my 88' NS-2A (which now has a USA Bridge/hardware, Trim Pot TonePump, and is fretless)... I have the neck coated in 7 hand-applied layers of boat epoxy.

But I also use really nice/high-end Dogal Jaco Ultraflat carbon-steel flat wound strings (from Italy, hand-wound).

It's a killer combo. The strings are brighter like rounds and they're SOOOOooooooo smooth. Such a joy to play.

Plus they last forever. I've got a 3 year-old set on it now and they still sound amazing and have no tarnishing.

I put it in (well, my tech ). This was my first Spector and was completely unprepared for the tone pump!
I had the OBP-3 put in within a few weeks. In reality (so far) I hardly use the mid controls since you're locked in at 400hz or 800hz. I wish it was sweepable from say 150hz - 1.5Khz. Now THAT would rock!

I'm to the point now though where I might be open to trying a Euro4LX with the TP. Or maybe that's just SAS talking. If I just wait for my NS-2 that'll go away. (I hope)

Yeah my first experience with the TP was in a ReBop 5DLX...I did not understand about the gain trim back then though.

That'd be the shiz to have a mid control with that frequency range

LimaGuy's daughter did some amazing Spector bass samples for us once when we were talking about doing a special bass that we shall not mention here. MAybe LimaGuy could sweet talk his daughter into doing that for us again? With a Coda 4?

Haha, that sounds badass. I'm really considering what I can move to get something like that as well, but may hold out for the day that they (hopefully) do a P bodied Coda.

Do we know what preamp is going in the EMG loaded P/J Coda's? I'm assuming Aguilar but I think a TP would be cool too.

When I ordered my Coda 5XL Deluxe last year the TP was an option, though not listed, just need approval from PJ Rubal.

I like to kill the volume on my bass between songs as I muck about, and I like to use the volume to fade out the final note of some songs too. Just easier if this is done with one knob.

Also when blending the pups with a bias towards one or the other I prefer a blend knob for this. e.g. On my NS-4CR I prefer the sound of the bass when the P-pup is a little hotter than the J-pup.

Of course this is all just my personal preference. YMMV

+1! Everything said here is why I prefer a blend knob over V/V.
I find it easier and handier to control the volume with just 1 knob vs. 2 knobs. Makes sense for me.
