Exactly...me too. I try very carefully not to knock into everything...bless my wife, such an angel, she's been my "roadie" since my neck surgery (1 month this week, pain free!)That's when I seriously started to think about a padded gig bag for weight purposes.

I have three Mono cases. Two singles and a double. This one is my favorite.

You don't know how many times in the past I've looked at buying this bass. Thanks for the pic...I forgot about the HS on that model. The color looks like a midnight blue in photos but I believe it's black. Midnight blue would be awesome!

This bass is what got me into Spectors. I was playing a LOT of Nickelback songs when I graduated & needed a 5 string to make them all work. So, I looked up what Miked used. At the time, it was Warwicks & I wasn't too interested. A few years later, I saw him playing live & he was using one of these. So, I looked it up again and said "I've gotta have one!" 3 months layer, I bought my ReBop off eBay.

Is this a bolt-on neck

There are 3 models.

MK5-Pro Legend Custom (Set Neck)
This model appears to have had some changes made to it in the last couple years. When it first came out, it was dual passive EMG 40HZ pickups with a passive tone circuit. Now it's listed as a 40P & 40J paired with a TonePump.

MK5-USA (NS-5 style Neckthru with paddle headstock)
Passive EMG 40HZ pickups with either a passive tone circuit or an active 18v or 9v. It should be noted that the active pre-amps are paired with an EMG P5 and J5 pickup combination, instead of the soapbar housings (USUALLY).

MK5-BO (USA Bolt-on style with paddle headstock)
Same as the MK5-USA, except it uses the standard USA bolt-on body.

Both of the USA models are available with an optional ebony fretboard. All models have the "M" logo on the 3rd fret and the Spector "double S" at the 12th. No other inlays.

could anyone comment on similarities/differences between Aguilar 60s or other jazz pickups used in certain NS models and US Codas, and the EMG Js found in, say, the NS-2JA.

I already understand the basics, that they are both single coil jazz pickups, but what I'm interested in tonal palette, tone quality, hum, things like that, based on people's experience.

I also already understand that you're going to have a different tone based on pre-used, such as the TP versus OBP-2 or OBP-3.

Just some observations from people who have played either type (EMGs vs Aggies) or both, would be appreciated.

Having the mid control and blend is why I really love the OBP 3 pre. I know I'm talking apples vs oranges.

I think the headstock would definitely be a deal breaker as that's crossing over to the Asian models. I too like the Legend headstocks for the 4,5,6 string basses.

+1!!! I always liked that about the older Bolt-on US models. Wonder why it was changed?

Not badly priced either...$149.00 on the manufacture price list. They have more economical models as well.

I've had 2 Spector gig bags but I didn't care for them Never felt there's enough padding for protection. I'm very very very careful with my bass especially during transporting, but every time I've used them the tuning pegs get turned slightly, uncool. :scowl: I lay my bass on the back seat with nothing else. I know, I know...just tune it back up, no big deal, but that tells ME that my bass is not being protected well enough. IMHO I don't care if its a $200 or $5,000 bass...I want to know/feel its being protected 100%.

I don't know for sure, but from conversations I've had with PJ they like to have variety. Maybe that is why

My USA Coda 5 has the Aggie 60's...I was very pleasantly surprised with the tonal palette with these. You'd never think they're jazz pups. Deep lows, clean & punchy mids, clean not too bright highs just right, and no humming. I can adjust any sound that I need. Some day, I'll make some sound clips to post. Right now I'm so busy with 2 bands I'm in...practice/gigs 3 days in a row, with gigs Sat. & Sun. Whew! Pant pant!

Hi guys, I've been a member for a while but haven't been active in a very long time. Hopefully this time I'll stay for good lol.

I picked up a new bass yesterday from a fellow spector club member (zoomboy) and damn I love the sound and the feeling of it. It just has "that" spector tone I've been looking for and the neck is amazing to play. I was fearful that the neck would be a little on the chunky side but it's not at all, more thin then any p bass neck I've played and really is comparable to my NS2000Q5.

Here's some quick pics, It's a NS4-CRFM with solid maple wings in Plum finish and damn it's pretty haha.

my NS2A is almost sold... pending payment. So the search for an amp starts. How many of you guys run all tube amps? I'm thinking of grabbing one, maybe an SVT or TraynorYBA200/300. I feel like I need to at least try one for a bit. I'll be holding on to my GK1001rb so I'll always have an amp I love to fall back on. I'm trying to stay sub $1000... any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Traynor YBA300 is godly! And it sounds more like a 1000W amp, IMO. It's on my wish list of dream gear.

I use to play a vintage traynor guitar amp, and it was AWESOME. The YBA200s seem to be very affordable. I don't know how different they are.

My tube amp crush has been rekindled. I have a '72 SVT, Fender Bassman 100T, Ashdown Little Bastard and Ashdown CTM-15 right now in rotation. Only 2 are really "giggable" (SVT and Bassman) the others are for practice/play/recording.

I had a Traynor YBA 300 for awhile and really liked it. Seen here sitting on top of my '72.

I think I missed out on 2 threads worth of Spector talk! It's been a madhouse here for me but I am thrilled and ecstatic to announce that my album is now complete!!!
Mastering will commence this coming Tuesday at a studio here in Vancouver and I am hoping to have it available to the public late October or early November online and in CD format (Digipack) as well.

I've decided to leave everything as instrumental with voice-overs. During the process of recording I dabbled with some vocals but they just didn't fit the whole scheme so I decided to drop it and keep the voice-overs as I feel that it ties everything together nicely and it says more than I could express in lyrical form.

Mixing took a lot of time and effort. I spent hours upon hours every day trying to get the right mix and the right levels for everything to sound the way I want it to and I think that the end result sounds good for what I can do now. Bass players will be pleased with where the bass sits in the mix

It has been an exhausting journey to say the least. It is quite an undertaking to write everything, play all the instruments, produce, mix and do the artwork but I am pretty proud of how it turned out and I hope that everyone will like it.
The musicians who were supposed to collaborate didn't quite work out unfortunately and due to those circumstances it pushed me to actually do it all in house which is a good thing I think.
The process taught me more than I could ever have imagined.

This will be a good time to thank everyone who has been supportive of this project with feedback (and the occasional kick in the arse) Sam, John, Lee Ho and everyone else. Thank you!!!

DUUUUDE!!!! This is some AWESOME stuff!!! I can't wait to hear it in it's final, full-length form!

I think having to do every aspect of a project like this is more exhausting/stressful than one would expect, but I also think that is when you learn the most! Congrats and kudos to you Omer!
