Big +1 for this. The preLX Euro 4s and CRFMs are an immense bang for the buck. They will hit all of your requirements minus the US9V Haz preamp, which you won't be getting into for less than several grand with a new US build. Swampy set me back all of $1300 and she's worth every goddamn penny. And then some. From my cold dead hands they will pry her.

Regarding the various preamps and configurations, as Lee would say, they're just varying shades of awesome. Swampy has a BT pre; my Rebop has a TP; my old Forte 4 had an outstanding Aggie OBP2 in it.

What serial number is your Swampy? I'm just curious. The wood is beautiful. My Rootbeer is NB-0183. Very close in appearance. Not the color. The wood.

You know I will always encourage a refin! Ha. The neck on your Euro is a little chunkier than Jade? But yes there is some beautiful wood under all that paint. In the Euros and CRFMs I mean.

it amazes me that the CRFM/Euros are less money than the current EuroLX line on the used market. They are superior in my opinion, even after changing out preamps and such.

Though I agree with you 101%. I'm guessing people feel that a newer bass is less likely to have issues. Fret wear and such.

ahh, that is a good point. I guess I always am messing with stuff anyways or buy your old basses, so I never thought of that lol.

The EuroLX basses are awesome too, I actually want to grab another one at some point again.

a local radio station just posted something about a band called the kings... I don't know anything about them but look at this bass. I've never seen one like it.

I got an email back from David Diamond regarding this bass. Seems like a really nice guy. Says that yes, it's an NS-1 that he bought in 1980 and all he's changed was the p-pup to an EMG. Here's his response to my email...

Hello there Jeff, David Diamond here. I love my bass. Had it since new. It's a 1980 NS-1 ser#445 built in Brooklyn. Pretty rare. First year they moved the input jack to the side, single P-pickup, although now it's got an EMG mounted. I still have the original pickup put away. At some time in the mid 80's, can't remember exactly when, changed it up for a little more umph. Badass bridge of course and the thru neck body. I've played many other basses over the years, live or studio, nothing can touch it for sound or playability. The way I got it was pretty cool. When The Kings were in recording the first album at Nimbus Nine Studios in Toronto, and had hooked up with Bob Ezrin, we met one of the best bass players on the planet, Prakash John . He showed me this new guit he had just bought in NYC, . Now this was late '79. I played it for a bit, it was awsome. I think it was a NS-1 too. I had to have one after that and the only way was to call Stuart Spector and custom order one. I wanted it Black with a hard shell road case. So Prakash called, and I had it buy early summer '80. At the 2012 NAMM show in California I met Stuart Spector himself at the Spector booth. I got to tell him my story and that I still play my bass all the time. I told him the finish is wearing off though. Haha ​

Nice. Those early Euro4s really were something special. Dunno what was going on over in the Czech shop then but they were working with some stunning wood for sure!

And speaking of tasty wood, I just posted my Rebop up in the classifieds. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and ordering up a US build so I need to clear the decks. It'll include a pair of necks, one fretted and one unlined fretless. PM for double secret probation club pricing.

Dude, if I may call you dude. The picture doesn't even begin to do it justice, and that's a good picture. It's certainly a bass/art that you can stare at for hours and find new and beautiful things. When I saw it my reaction was OH Sh!t that one is amazing!
