I'm looking for a good budget 5-strings bass, have found 2 basses that matched my need: Spector NS2000/5 (470$) and an old Spector Rebop, probaly pre-2001 (500$). What is the better one that i should go for ? Same price tag, one neck-thru and one bolt-on. How about the comparison tone between them, pls help me !

The recording sounds great! We play 40 songs at the shows but I only practice the new songs we added, my fretless technique, or the stuff I'm playing around with on Scotts bass lessons....guess I'm trying to compare time, to bad we don't have a run meter on the basses we play! lol

Thank you, sir! Yeah I unfortunately have to go over everything just as a refresher. Mostly because we don't gig often enough for me to keep them in my mind. Like today at rehearsal, we started playing "don't speak" and then we got to the chorus and I just went blank for a minute, had everyone stop, I thought about it and then I was good. But it's just because I busted my ass on that song (it's tricky) and I took it for granted that I could just play it and not rehearse it much. I will rehearse as much as possible before our show this up coming saturday. lol. But as far as the strings went, they sounded ok today, I think the still have some good milage on them, but I'm really anxious to throw on the lo-riders I got in today

The ReBop. Hands down. Both are good deals, though. It's too bad I don't have the cash, or I'd pony up on that 'bop myself! Hell, it's $350 for a new neck and you can get a full bass for $500!?

Rebop

Both are great basses and you can't go wrong with either of them so it basically comes down to if you want a bolt-on or a neck-thru. They both have EMG HZ pickups but the NS 2000/5 will most likely have an EMG BT circuit where the Rebop will probably have a non trim tonepump which can be a bit powerful so some swap them with the trim pot tonepump which is what I did.

My Rebop 5 is the exact same color and it was made in 2001 and I really love the bass. I would also love to get an NS 2000/5 to have as well though since I really love the tone Dan Briggs from Between the Buried and Me gets with his bass.

The NS-4 seems to sound a bit "thicker" and "deeper" with just a hair more zing on the very top end. The NS-2, especially the solid maple one, seems a little bit "growlier" and a little less thick/deep.

Also looking forward to hearing the DC/DC version to see how that compares. They all sound good!

Keep in mind these are direct recordings. Playing in a live situation will change things a bit.

I'm a bedroom playing hobbyist who plays whatever I feel like. Since I'm a sound guy at a church I play a lot of Christian Contemporary since I'm listening to it a lot. But I also play some alternative rock, metal and I actually really like playing anime music (I'm a bit of a nerd...)

I'm mostly a Fender Precision or Jazz bass kind of guy. Though I wouldn't necessarily say I like a "vintage" tone because I like round wounds with the tone wide open most of the time. I just love the "warmth" those basses have.

What's attracted me to Spectors (the Euro LX and NS basses in particular) is that while they sound kind of like a lot of the other "modern" basses out there, they have that awesome growl to them that other basses just don't have. Not to mention a very tight low end.

Never been much of a pedal person, my tone is usually very dry and clean.

But based on you saying your a Fender Precision or Jazz bass kind of guy.

A P/J Spector either "NS-2" or "Euro4LX" or "Euro4" or "NS4-CRFM" sounds like your best bet.
You get the best of both worlds.
You can easily just use the P Pickups and you and got yourself a P bass on steroids. You just use the J Pickup and you got yourself a J bass on steroids.

The NS-4 tone will take you to a different place

Yep, that's the impression I was getting and that basically confirms it.

That's okay, I never solo the bridge pickup on hardly any bass that has two pickups. Never was a fan of the "burpy" tone of most bridge pickups, MMs are a different animal of course.

Couldn't disagree more, my NS-2's solo'd bridge pickup has Jaco tone in spades...that being said, it does has a passive Aguilar set instead of active EMG's...

Exactly why its for sale, LOL My sons birthday is 10/22, Wifes is 11/23, Daughters is 12/21, Christmas. Then Jan and Feb are dead at work, Then the tax man comes, LOL

BASStovsky.. what is the sound with the Korean HAz ..is it close to a US or ..any sound clips?

I've never used it in a bass with EMGs until now, and these are passive, not active like any Spector with a USA9V. I have clips of my NS20004 with SGD's and my NS-2A with Dimarzio pickups like the original NS-2 basses, not sure how much you'll be able to tell with the differences in pickups, or strings for that matter

Since I got my Ampeg V-4B instead of my previous solid state amp, I no longer have a DI-out to record a clean signal with, I might hook up my old amp at some point and record the Rebop

We just played the last three Saturdays but during the week I will still work on the new stuff just to plant it in my head, I also work with the fretless because I don't have the confidence in my technique yet...still learning all of the textures! Let me know what your thoughts are on the DR Lo-Riders, at first I didn't like them because of the over bright tone but I'm glad I left them on because they have a great sound once they are broken in (just my thoughts).

Ask them what the package price would be for both basses, you might get lucky and walk away with them both for $800 or less!

I've always liked the pick tone of the NS2A with the Haz copy and passive pickups!

Stupid me. I forgot I had recorded some clips comparing them before. I created this NS-4 playlist to show the different tones with some settings and played the same riff 2 that Limaguy played in his so you should be able to hear the differences.

Just a little background about why there is a take 2 clip in there. When I recorded the first clip "NS-4 riff 2-P4," I felt it was a bit low so I recorded it again with the bass a bit louder.
