I guess I will. I always read how BSO is THEE one stop shop for strings with the hookup. Usually my first instinct is to shop local. Which makes me wonder if buying them at one of the several Guitar Centers around here is still considered shopping local?? I always try to avoid large chains too.

Even though I am all for supporting local shops but when I'm being charged $64.00 for strings when I can buy them for $22.00 online... Economics takes over

In the studio this Sunday tracking a new song for our album. Gonna use the Double Box Oil Finish Kramer on this track. Has that slow groove that reminds me of Zepplins "Dazed and Confused". The oil finish has the prefect tone for that paired with my Sonuus Whaoo pedal for some cool wah effect. Sending out my rack mount Jule Monique next week to another member that bought it from me and getting the Bamboo version sent from Jule also.

Don't know if this is cool to do here considering I'm not a supporting member, but I figured I'd give it a shot because it's not a separate thread.

Anyone looking to pick up a 5 string Spector and maybe move a 4 string at the same time? I have my Rex 5 I'm considering getting rid of, but I'm still on the fence. It's in great shape with some surface scratches, but nothing major. I'm mostly looking for an NS2A or maybe a NS4CRFM or who knows. Would prefer to stay away from a Legend as I'm looking for something to really rival my Euro 5 for stage time.

I string at least 2 basses a month, & sometimes as many as 4 basses a month.
Add in stringing 1 or 2 guitars & buying a pair of drumsticks every month, and heads for a 10-piece drum kit every couple of years, & economics becomes a major factor.
It only makes sense to hunt down the best online deals for strings & accessories, especially if you own/play multiple instruments.

Still haven't really found a good comparison. Any ideas?

I am going to record some clips this weekend. The strings on my Forte are totally dead but I can take the strings from the NS-4 and put them on it since it would be a more accurate test.

The NS-4 is strung with D'addarrio balanced tension strings and the Forte is strung with DR steel Lo Riders so it would be better to do it with the same strings.

Yeah, it doesn't get more accurate than that.

I buy my strings from bso. In fact I have a set of Dr Lo-riders coming in tomorrow. I want to give them a shot since you guys speak so highly of them. I'll see if they will replace the cobalts.

Are there any good recordings of tonal comparisons between an NS-2 and an NS-4 out there?

I will ask Sam (Limaguy) if he still has the clips he recorded when I brought my NS-4 over. I can't remember though if I had the P/DC config in it or the DC/DC config when he recorded them but he should be able to tell me. If not, I can probably record some this weekend.

Still haven't really found a good comparison. Any ideas?

I have been running my DR Lo-Rider strings for almost 5 months, I don't seem to have the problems that some of the guys report (acid, etc.) and I keep them clean. They still sound bright and I'm glad I kept them on the bass. The Ernie Ball Cobalt strings have been running 4 months without any problems, great strings! The D'addario Chromes have been used for 1 month, had to adjust the relief on this bass due to the tension but the string sound sweet. I have been playing almost every weekend and practice during the week switching between basses and this might be the reason why they are lasting...but...I was getting almost a year out of the Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky sets before they would die.

That would be fun to complete, wonder if there would be a serial number on the body so a guy could put it back to original?

Did everyone give up on the circle k's? I really liked my .158 and considered buying another few sets to have for backup, but now that I'm thinking of picking up a 34" 4 string I may have some thinking to do about my string choice.

The recording sounds great! We play 40 songs at the shows but I only practice the new songs we added, my fretless technique, or the stuff I'm playing around with on Scotts bass lessons....guess I'm trying to compare time, to bad we don't have a run meter on the basses we play! lol

I have never used Circle K, do you use round wound strings? What tone do you like?
