SPECTOR® Club - Part 74

First day of NAMM was epic....unfortunately the Forte SS was presold, so I never even had a chance to buy it...on the plus side however, it sounded even better than I thought it would, just this biggest, punchiest, growliest J bass I've ever heard and dead quiet with either pickup solo'd as well...

I'll definitely be calling PJ to order one as soon as he gets back to the office next week :bassist:

Did you get a chance to play the Coda P-Basses?

Did get any pricing on the new P's ?

I did, and they are every bit as excellent as you'd expect them to be :D

I didn't ask PJ for pricing though, if I were to get a Coda P I'd want one in the original vintage Coda style and opposed to the current DLX iteration; I can certainly ask him when I'm back again on Saturday if you'd like ;)

In fact, is there anything in particular anyone would like me to investigate for them at NAMM before the weekend is out?

Your more of the classic style fella then, I am turned a little about that as well...I mean I like the classic style and would love to have a gloss black, pick guard, with a BEM neck but if your going to go with the American made your going to have to select the fancy top wood I guess!

I did put a down on one of the P-basses, it was the balance I had on a gift certificate! lol

looks like maybe a Legend PJ (I can't tell) is now int he lineup, along with a Legend 8 string

Invalid Link Removed
Yeah it's a new Legend 4 P/J model. With silver plated hardware it looked like a Performer at first glance. AuWhat? 8 string legend?!?!
and a Dan Briggs sig and legend Alex Webster... this is awesome

Link Removed
So Spector is re-making the NS-2000/5 as a Briggs Sig. ?!?! Whoa!!!
They are just full of surprises this year :-) A 34" scale Euro 5LX with J/J pickups? An Alex Webster Zombie drip finish? Man, keep 'em coming, lol.

They keep on surprising us, eh! Very nice year with new models and changes. :smug:
Did you switch your circuit to 18V Mike, is there room for an extra battery or did you order it as 18V? What circuit is in your Coda OBP2 or OBP3?
I modded mine to 18V. The original battery compartment is external. There's plenty of room inside the electronics cavity to place a battery.
I have the OBP 2...I wanted the OBP 3 as I had it in my Forte 5, but PJ said there wasn't enough control knobs  I guess they must of not wanted to use a concentric control pot??? I don't know if you could use the same style of knobs either if you went that route? It's still in my mind, letting it tumble around in that great cavity inside my skull ;), about installing an OBP 3 myself. :D I love having the mids pot in my fretless Ibby SR375F and my former Forte 5.:bassist::bassist:

Man, the idea of a Coda is tempting seeing as I was a Jazz Bass guy for so long before I found Spector. Once I've received my newest Euro build that might have to be next in line for me. A black quilt body with a BEM neck/board would be AWESOME. I can imagine it being the perfect marriage between the J Bass and Spector sounds.
Oh it is:D:bassist:
Not to get off topic but wanted to share a pic of the new chrome on my NS4. Feedback welcome good or bad! Thanks fellas. Sorry about the crappy pic.
SEXY! Love it! It pulls the hue of the blue more, IMHO.
Thank you kind sir! ...in a month or so, this beast will be sitting next to it! :bassist:

Oh Brad! That's going to be beastly awesome!:hyper: Which pre is going in, OBP 3?

I think you said you run the neck pickup a little hotter also, right Mike?

I run both pickups full, bass 90%, treble 75%...gives more growl and really cuts thru the mix great. I did this for the first time about a week ago when our drummer didn't show last Sunday. Figured my bass tone would cut thru the mix and be heard better by the audience. It worked great that way the SB guy said. So I'm keeping it set that way for now.

SAS alert!!!!!

sure, many of these have already made their way out to the interwebz, but this booth rocked. Also got to meet Stuart and PJ, and thank them for making such beautiful instruments:

I think the ones marked SOLD mean sold to a dealer, so you could still pick that one up from whatever dealer it is going to, and PJ could tell you.

Thank you for sharing the NAMM pics with us!
The Buckeye Burl Coda 4 DLX is the best Buckeye burl I've seen! Nice mix of reds & browns spots. The Coda 5DLX Buckeye burl looks like 2 eyes staring at ya...spooky! Haha

I think the ones marked SOLD mean sold to a dealer, so you could still pick that one up from whatever dealer it is going to, and PJ could tell you.

That is very true, both P-basses are going to Tulsa and will be on the Guitar House site...I was joking earlier when I said I had money down, I only have like $5.36 left on a $50.00 gift certificate so I joked with Todd and asked him to hold the bass for me! lol...He thought it was funny but the basses are available for at least until I get to them and then there is no telling what I'll do!

That is true. I do know a lot of the booth was sold to an international distributor. Once PJ gets back I'm sure he would be more than happy to give you any information you would need.

The SS was actually presold privately, not to a distributor; I'll be ok to wait 5 months and have my own come summer time :D
