Before I go any further we all know a music video like this is just a “staged version” of the band playing live.

As I diehard Kiss fan, and diehard Spector player.
I will attempt to stop the Spector forum turn into a Gene bashing thread.

Gene was one of the first major players to play a Spector. He is a big part of Spector history and why we all get to enjoy being Spector players.

I assume this is the website being referred to, regarding the front empty input jack.

There is a theory that there is a 2nd input jack on the bass?
If you read and see all the photos on the website above none of it really makes any sense.

It is also known that Kiss used a

The vega system input jack matches what is seen in some of the photos when there is a jack connected.
My theory, the videos or photos with no input jack are “live music videos” being recorded for B roll, as this was also during the time of the Alive II tour and album release.

Since there are so many modifications to his SB-1’s
I would even assume a prototpe Vega system was being connected directly inside the cavity bypassing the input jack.

It is known that Gene did not always play every bass line in every Kiss song recorded.
(I can’t defend Gene on this. I personally would want to play on every song my band recorded.)
As a diehard Kiss and Gene fan. I can instantly tell which songs he played on and didn’t play on.

Just because someone wears a costume doesn’t mean they can’t play bass well.
And yes even though I am a diehard Kiss & Gene fan I think Gene and Paul are both arrogant, money hungry individuals.

Anyone who isn’t familiar or doubts Gene’s playing ability, feel free to PM me so I can send you some links of really good Gene played bass lines, that I am sure he played.
We can even have a phone chat if you like. I would love to listen as you play along with them.

Guys, I'm now trying to move my Kramer Era Fretless NS-2. It just does not get any play time cause I use my fretted NS-2 only in all projects. I'm now trying to sell it in Moscow but I understand that it will hang on here for ages. It's bought here on TB from Clint (clbass) a while ago and it's in perfect condition. The only mod I did is trussrod nut replacement, because the original one was worn. HAZ makes fretless tone more aggressive. Strung with flats to preserve the FB. Here's how it looks.

Question: I want to get a Hipshot Extender for my SE-5. The peg is an M4 but I noticed there is a difference in the Schaller logo on the 2 parts. See the pics. Even though they are both M4s are they the same peg? Could the SE-5 have the M4 Light pegs?

Anyone know what colors the Korean Legend NS2A came in?
I have the (I guess you'd call it) orange quilt top, and have occasionally seen others in that color on eBay. Got my eye out for another in another color (would consider trading or selling my MIM Fender 70's Jazz for it because I just love my Spector soooo much).

and I agree with all those Queensryche comments above; Operation Mindcrime totally changed my idea of what rock bass should sound like!!! Also love Mike Starr's sound on 1st couple Alice In Chains records.

And who knew, it just took a little Gene bashing to make him speak up.....

And Sam, I grew up on Kiss. It was the 1st band my parents hated, what can I say. Gene does some really good playing, especially on early Kiss. He gets bashed for the same reason Adam Clayton, Michael Anthony, Cliff Williams get bashed. The play what the songs of their group needs/wants, which a lot of times are fairly simple lines. That doesn't mean they couldn't play harder lines if they wanted. I do agree about the arrogant, money hungry part which does make it easier for people to dislike him.

If you think he is bluffing, think again I was playing Rocksmith 2014 and told him the bass line to Rock N' Roll All Nite was better than I always thought it was. What followed were 25 Youtube links to Kiss songs with good Gene bass lines so i can confirm he will send stuff, LOL.

No Gene bashing intended. Kiss was singlehandedly the band that made me first want to pick up an instrument as a wee young lad. I was a HUGE fan back in the day!! It was indeed axeology.com I was referring to. I just stumbled on it about a couple weeks ago. Being fresh in my head I took note when I saw the SB1 in the vid. I do find it curious. Interestingly enough, I did have in my possession for some time a guitar called a Nady Lightning, which had an internal wireless.

Sorry if I seemed to point you in the Gene bashing direction. But I've seen it many times here on Talkbass.

That plus anytime the mention of "no chord being plugged in" usually leads to a big blow up.
(Like what happen with Flea at the Superbowl performance)

As far as Paul Stanley goes, I have to admit, he was one of the coolest guys to meet on the street. I was at a bar in Hollywood about 20 years ago (I think one of the Kinks owned it), and when my friend and I walked out I literally walked right into Paul Stanley and one of his friends. We stood there and talked to them for like 5-10 minutes and he could not have been any cooler. So, for what it's worth he can't be all that bad.

NS2A's came in Red, Black, White, Sunburst and Teal.

Legends with the P/J's like you have, came in your color, Black Cherry and Black/Slate Grey and there was also a model with a Bubinga Top.

The Schaller's on the Euro series are OEM made for the Czech basses and they say Schaller on them & the screw points downwards.

The Schaller M4's have an S on them and the screw points to the middle.

If you install the droptuner Hipshot version of the Schaller M4 on your bass I think you may need to have a new hole made to screw the drop tuner Mech in. The bottom hole will be covered by the entire droptuner.

Yes they are both m4's but the pegs have a slight difference.The pilot holes are in different places.This is the biggest problem with changing hardware on the newer spector basses with schaller hardware.That drop tuner will drop right into the bass,but the pilot hole will not line up with the one that is already there.However, if you have the drop tuner on the bass, i believe you will not see the original hole,but if you ever take it off and put the original peg back in it,you will see it.Good luck trying to find a schaller drop tuner with the pilot hole facing towards the neck (they are like trying to find a black unicorn or the ever elusive 9v Haz ).

Man, having your baby under the knife for 6 months really gets to you!
I can't find another bass I'm happy with for more than a week or so.
The tone's just not there, although my Fender P w/ TonePump gets close, and the look is all wrong.

Do you think anyone would trade an NS-2A or a Legend for a Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass Satin & a Squier Affinity P-bass? I'll include a hardshell gator for the Fender.

Really wish my ReBop5 was done, but the neck won't be back until mid to late March.

Thanks guys. I've installed Hipshot D-tuners on all my 4 bangers since the mid 80's. It's a big part of my playing style. So, I probably would not switch it back. I'll call Dave at Hipshot tomorrow.
