Oh heck no. I love that bass. Just pointing the problem I had with my Euro5 bridge. All the B strings I tried fit like that. So I went with tapre wounds.
But I guess I'm still asking what non taper B strings people are using that don't have this "issue"
I use D'Addario XL's. The 6 is 35" scale. The Long Scale XL's aren't quite long enough for the outer winding to make it over the nut. The Super Long Scales are a bit too long where the outer winding starts hitting the tuning post, causing reduced tuning gear ratio and instability.
I made a (several actually) spacer that simply backs the string up about 3/4" so that only the lead, not the outer winding, wraps around the tuning post.
Nothing to do with not fitting (which they do, they're .125's) in the bridge slot.
Last few hours... wearing a path from the computer to the window looking for the UPS truck with every passing engine .... Congrats, Icebox!

I've had 2 fivers now, a ReBop 5 and my now NS-95 SSD (which is STILL FS at price of $650.00!) and not had problems with the B string not fitting the bridge. Even when I converted my NS2A, NP with B string.Rick Blanc said:

Oh you know it! I won't put it down! After unpacking...quick pictures for my TB bros to post tonight...play it with whatever strings are on it...change strings with long scale GHS precision SS FW .45-.105 mediums...play a lot more and last but not the least...make a video for "My Spector Story". I wonder why I'm having problems then. I mean you're able to fit 132 flats on there. Those are some fat string with the silk winding and all.
As far as the D'Addario XL's go, I have to put my sets together myself (usually from JustStrings.com) because they don't make a complete 5 or 6 string set with my guages and a .125 B. I start with an XL70SL set (.100, .080, .065, .045) and add individual XL nicklewound SL .125 B and .032 C.
I would probably use a .120 if they made a non-tapered version in the nicklewound XL's, but they don't to the best of my knowledge.
They typically put a .130 in the XL70 5 and 6 string sets.
I found with my NS5CRFM that Super Light Gauge D'Addario XL Nickels in long scale sounded ABSOLUTELY KILLER.
I mean...ridiculous.
It's a shame I'm obsessed with BTBAM. Haha.
I used EXL220-25s. So much growl. And this was through an old Roland Keyboard amp the school had -- can't imagine what it would be like through my GK rig.
On a side note, these half-rounds are incredibly sticky, and I think the old Nickels gave a closer tone to Dan's albums, whereas the halves kinda sound like live, but flats would sound more like it.
I think i'll be going back to nickels when these die in...hmm... eight months?
Dan's strings are super old when he plays live, I imagine he uses fresher ones on the albums. He actually broke his B when I saw them in Williamsville a couple months back, and I was talking with him about his strings afterwards. He had to switch out for a Legend he had on backup for a couple tunes.
Yeah. Dustie says he changes them about once every 8 months -- not counting the B string, which gets changed often.
I haven't even had these for a day and they are sticky. The new-string-zing combined with half-flats certainly isn't pleasant.
I think I'll go back to Nickels.
Super-thick old nickels got me perfect tone on one cover, whereas old light gauge nickels got me another good tone as well.

My new family member arrived @ 4:15pm today.
I'm wondering if this bass was ever played even?! Not a buckle rash one on the back...I can't find a hairline scratch anywhere on this beauty! If it wasn't for this axe being made for some serious playing, it'd be a museum piece! Played a bit on the newly GC installed squeaky strings...WOW! That's about all I can say! This is a BEASTLY Bass!!! My first active pups bass. I turned the neck, P pup 100%, bridge, J to 0. What a meaty solid low tone, very steady tone. Turn P off and J 100%. there's that mid tone growl! But a bit too bouncy twangy. I rolled both P/J to 50%, a meaty growl! That put a smile on my face. I like that. I then rolled P 100% & J at 50%, now we are talking, no, commanding attention! The later is my favorite pups positioning! The tones were set with bass 100%, treble 25% during all testing. NOW...string change! GHS Long scale Precision SS FW, .45-.105 mediums. I'll give another report after.
