Spector Club - Part 11

Apologies; I posted that before I had contextually deduced that pictures were customary in these situations. Here she is:

Interesting to see these two basses side by side. I played a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 in a local music store and was very impressed with it's construction and playability. That particular one was better than most I have had actually. I had just sold a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 fiver and have owned a couple Spector basses in the past so the resemblances or homage to the Spector were quite obvious. That shape is just a variation on the Spector theme as I see it. It was in awesome deal though for a well built, great playing, neck-through 5.

Those Line 6 Variax units are intense.. amp modellers, tuning modellers, guitar modellers all in one, with all kinds of effects. One of the controls has notches to select different presets that you put in through your computer.

Ive seen a few people take the guts of the Variax and put them into Teles, Jazzmasters etc. The guitarist/singer of Thrice did that, he uses it as his main live guitar to simplify his rig.

Did you ever have one of those decisions you regretted the instant you made it? This bass was one of those decisions....

After my Dad died, I put most of those funds in my house, which I no longer have. I did treat myself to something nice-this bass. I liked the way it sounded, played, looked, but for some reason, I thought I needed something else. I traded it to an online used gear store for another bass. Since that day, I've been trying to get it back. The store had already sold it, so I thought I was out of luck.

I just happened to be browsing the Spector Club a few parts back, when a guy posted about his new bass. He said he got it from the store I traded it to, so I checked his serial number in his pictures, and sure enough it was my old one. I politely asked that if he ever sold it, to please let me have first dibs. He said he loved it, and didn't think he would sell it, but he would certainly let me know. I suspected that was the end of the line.

Then, on Fathers' Day weekend no less, he messages me that he wants to sell...I scrounged up money as best I could, and got her back. After all this time, I'm sitting here wondering......what was I thinking getting rid of this?!? It plays awesome, has that signature Spector growl, and looks amazing. That would be enough on its own, but the sentimental value trumps it all.

Thought I would share, and ask for a club number. I am profoundly thankful to have this bass back in my life. Spectors rule!

Great story! Is it in the same condition as when you let it go?..

Wow...amazing story. I am sure Tracebassplayer will issue you a number when he gets on later. P.S. You should create a My Spector Story video on the Spectorcentral website. Click the link below to see my story....Welcome back to the Spector World. :bassist: :hyper:

Vain1, I was worried at first...the seller said it had some scuffs on the back. Aptly applied elbow grease removed it though, for the most part. It's essentially in the same condition as when it left. Lucky considering it's travels. LimaGuy, thanks for the welcome. I'll have to see if I have something I can use as a video camera. I did see your story: great stuff, and I'm glad you are feeling better.

It's like a heartwarming family movie! I love it! Congrats on the return of your Spector with that lovely blue finish.

That's awesome, I had a similar thing happen with my Euro Doug Wimbish signature. I sold it to a guy, regretted it every day, thought about e-mailing him and asking him if he wanted to sell it back to me, then one day I saw he had it for sale. He was selling it because he only played it once, then put it in his closet, so it was in the exact condition (perfect) as when I sold it to him. Great guy, we just did the exact same deal in reverse as when I sold it to Jim!

Alright, sorry sold it to him. Fat fingers on an iPhone...

The other part if this is I have a friend Sean from Fargo. 2 years ago I got my Doug Wimbish Signature and took it ( to Fargo, where i grew up from Vegas where I live now) to play for the summer. After Sean, who has been a friend of mine for 25 years heard my bass he had to tell me that he was the bass guy at the local music store and they are a Spector dealer because of me. He remembered me playing my (3) NS-2A's (a white one, black one, and a black one with a kahler bass trem) and a NS-2O back in the day and made the store a dealer. The next night he came and told me he had ordered a Euro Doug Wimbish signature identical to mine and was going to be a Spector artist (he plays in Grimmstien, with the singer from Grimm Reaper).

After I sold the Spector, I went home to Fargo and played his Spector and it really sparked me to get another one, it was days later I saw my Doug back for sale and jumped on it. I just think it is cool how we have inspired each other with our Spectors. FYI, Sean is my friend who is waiting for a Euro Doug Wimbish signature in Black, Any time now, I will post pics when he gets it.

I know Lima Guy, as soon as everything settles down a bit I will be working on my Spector Story.
